The Director - A Different Kind of Killer
Way back when, I has an idea for a game where a killer and a director try to make a horror movie/snuff film that the actors were trying to stop.
The director in the game essentially had the ability to trigger traps and change things in order to kill and scare people and I just had a thought "wait, what if that can be put in DBD?" So I thought I'd come here and maybe get some help workshop the idea. Probably never happen but I think the idea is fun.
I also apologize if any of these ideas have already been in other posts. I don't read a lot of chapter/killer/survivor ideas so I don't know what's been done or not.
Basically, the director has pretty good map view. They have floodlights to brighten things but the cameras are up high. Each map has a set amount of cameras and the director can teleport to, similar to Hag. Around each map, there's a variety of traps the director can activate to stop, harm and kill survivors: trees can fall, trip wires can be set up, debris can block paths, etc. Some traps are one use but most reset.
The director doesn't have a physical body, but they do have visible cameras and flood lights. Cameras that the director is currently looking through have the floodlights in the area on and scary background music plays.
Perk wise, I'm thinking one that effects generators. I think it maybe interesting to include a perk that can disable 1-3 generators for either a long time or perminately. It would take perhaps 30ish seconds to disable one completely and maybe 10 seconds to disable one for up to 1 minute.
Another perk idea is putting survivors into something similar to a temporary "madness" state called "fear". Maybe after a certain amount of hits, they lose control of where they're going for 3-7 seconds but gain slight speed. The higher level the perk, the faster and longer the survivor goes but they can't control where they're doing so they may just run into a wall. The perk wouldn't activate and the amount of hits should reset when Mettle of Man or Borrowed Time activates. (It just seems fair) It might so be a nice hex if the Mettle of Man/Borrowed Time is a bit much.
Third perk idea is an Obession perk. You get one Survivor that you can look through the eyes of but when it's activated, the killer can't move or see through their cameras/eyes but they can still hear. Similarly, the Obsession gets an overlay of what the killer is seeing, so they know where the killer is as well. The higher level the perk, the more this overlay obscures the Obsession's screen, up to 7 seconds.
Mori wise, I'm thinking the survivor tries to crawl away but they look up and a floodlight falls on them. Something simple, but appropriate.
And just like what I hinted above, maybe the director can be an actual killer, maybe it can be part of a 2 vs 8 or so mode. I think it would be cool either way.
To round this off like it's an actual chapter, for a map, I was thinking maybe a studio backlot or shooting on scene by a lake. I'd imagine the backlot would be full of lots of hiding places while the lake would be large and have a small island with bridges to it that may spawn a gen.
I'm not sure about a survivor quite yet. I'm thinking maybe an old lady hermit. Perks, I'm thinking the ability to duck or dodge during a chase, something that lets survivors avoid hits; one that let's survivors booby trap a gen to stun a killer for 3-5 seconds when kicking or disabling it; and one that involves "sacrificing" yourself where the survivor puts themselves into the dying state that the killer gets a noise notification of but the survivor can get back up after 10-25 seconds of recovering once per match with an added little speed boost everytime they're healed from the dying state.
I'd love to hear some feedback or maybe some more ideas. I am mostly a killer main though I also play survivor a lot so it would be nice to get some constructive criticism from people who may be more specialized in killer and survivor than me.
Thank you for reading!
