We need a second objective!
The gen rush problem is getting worse to the point that even green rank survivors are staying injured to do gens.
A lot of people have suggested second objectives like gathering parts from around the map.
edit I also feel like Ruin shouldn’t be a bandaid fix for the gen rush problem.

Yes, we absolutely need a 2nd objective. We can't mention that often enough.
(Btw, here is my concept: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/65083/concept-for-a-2nd-objective-for-survivors/p1 )
Longer gen repair times would also do the job in theory, but a 2nd objective would be a lot more fun.
10 -
A second objective is very necessary. Something to make matches last longer, something that's more fun than holding M1.
8 -
Totems
4 -
@Horus Totems are done way too fast. Also, we need a 2nd objective that is obligatory, not voluntary.
6 -
Totems are not a secondary objection, as they are something you can do if you want extra blood points or their is a hex totem
5 -
My thought on secondary objective is you have to bring 'gasoline' you can find in random place(or just basement) and shove it in generator in order to powerup the gen or something
4 -
@DingDongs I suggested something like this. You can take a look here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/65083/concept-for-a-2nd-objective-for-survivors/p1
4 -
Yes we do yet we're still not getting one.
1 -
If we keep asking then it is possible.
3 -
Battle pass and cosmetics come first. People are thrilled about it.
0 -
They probably will come first but I’m fine with cosmetics being added since it is a different team. Battle pass though, admittedly I’ll probably get it.
1 -
Priorities. :D
0 -
Absolutely. :D
0 -
Exactly. The devs showed several times that they are listening to reasonable feedback. I'm pleasantly surprised how quick MoM is getting its adjustment, for example.
4 -
So you re not going to ######### about killer tunneling , going easy ways after second objectives implemented? You not going to dictat killer how to play?
2 -
All you need now are a lion and a tinman, you already have a strawman
4 -
@DudeDelicious You should play as a M1 killer against good survivor groups. You stand no chance.
I'm a survivor main, I play at high ranks. We absolutely need a 2nd objective for survivors.
4 -
@DudeDelicious I actually agree with you. Killer can slow down the game if you know how. That's actually my play style. They aren't completely powerless as some seem to think. I play exclusively m1 and go so far as to not use add-ons.
Does a good group 'counter' it? It adds a challenge, but you can actually challenge good groups with this method.
5 -
@DudeDelicious I never said that you don't play M1 killers at all. But you obviously don't play against very good survivor groups.
You can watch any good killer streamer. Even those very good guys don't win with Freddy if they are up against a good survivor team. It's clear for everybody to see.

4 fuses scattered around the map with a central fuse box, survivors have to repair the generators, and put fuses in the box before they power the gates. That way, on top of doing gens, there's also a small scavenger hunt for the fuses + the time to put them in. I imagine the struggle around the central fuse box might become intense at the endgame when the last fuse has to be put in. Especially if the survivor who had it died, and the others have to go to their death spot to retrieve it first. Dunno if the fuses would be carried items or just put into the other hand and can't be lost by FD hits or not. Not a perfect idea, just a rough one off the top of my head.

@TWiXT I suggested something similar, but with putting gas in gens before you repair them. You can take a look here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/65083/concept-for-a-2nd-objective-for-survivors/p1
(@TreemanXD Sorry that I keep posting this link here. It just fits the topic so well.)

I personally think this;
Yeah, sure there are stellar killers who CAN take control of a match no matter the circumstances. Even if the survivors play perfectly, there's some players who can manage to put so much pressure on the survivors that they pop like cherries.
But, I emphasize the amount of these killers who actually exist, yes, being high rank should be a difficult task to fight to keep in, but when you're witnessing this much backlash, even from some of those amazing killers as well, you know that it's time for some change.
I say, throw a secondary object of some sort in the PTB, do EXTENSIVE research on it, and really examine player feedback thoroughly before it's released. If it works, it works, and if doesn't, then so be it. Make it an optional objective if nothing else, but give incentive to Survivors to do it by making it feel rewarding.. for eg; like they're doing with DeathGarden. The blood posts, are technically optional objectives, but feel worth while because they add a little bit to the current match, and on top of that increase currency. It's just an suggestion though.
Personally, even as a survivor main, I wouldn't mind having a secondary objective. Gasoline, parts and pieces, etc to generators. Rewarded with extra bp if they make the secondary objective optional. Just a thought.

@RatDBD Take a look at totems: Cleansing them is voluntary and in most cases they aren't being cleansed, even though it wouldn't take a lot of time and the threat of NOED would be eliminated. I think a 2nd objective has to be obligatory.
Another positive effect: A 2nd objective would not only help with balance, it would also give a new impulse to those who have been playing DbD for a long time now.
4 -
I suggested in the past survivors suffer a 5% debuff to repair speed for every totem on the map. This way if they choose to ignore totems they repair slower, giving the killer time. If they choose to cleanse them it buys the killer time.
0 -
@thrawn3054 That would be an indirect nerf to hex totems, especially NOED and Devour Hope, since survivors would look for them much more.
Also more important: If survivors want, totems are cleansed fast. When I play in a full SWF group, often 1 guy is responsible for totems and deals with them. That's done pretty quick and doesn't give the killer enough of the much needed additional time.
2 -
Yes!
It is really bored to hold M1..
6 -
No, I agree with you, trust me. I was only saying "If nothing else, make it optional and try that", for the people who were already against the idea of there being an obligatory objective. I would definitely want it to be obligatory though as well. We've all been waiting for a secondary objective for so long. I've been around since beta. I'm more than ready. I hope BHVR drops something on us soon.... Sigh.
10 -
@RatDBD Ah okay, thanks for clarifying! A well-thought 2nd objective would be such a great addition to the game! ^^
4 -
It really would be! I'd be completely all over it! I'm ready for a change, whether it be a new game mode or a secondary objective to the base game mode. Let's just hope BHVR can prepare for it properly, and assure that some of the major bugs are cleaned up before proceeding with anything else in-game.
3 -
They could make Noed base(only the instadown part) and add a totem counter. This way, survivors still have the choice to do the gens fast but being one hit after the last one pops or they can slow down a little and cleanse all totems but not being one hit. This ofc as a bandaid fix before they add another main objective like gathering generator parts etc.
5 -
@NoShinyPony no worries, your idea is good and people should see it.

@TreemanXD Thank you! <3

You’re welcome:)

This might be a very unpopular opinion, but I don't think gen rush is an issue.
I don't want to brag here, but I seem to get 4ks often (w/o ruin). I play billy mostly, and only really use 2 brain cells if I'm in trouble. Regardless, I always get atleast 2 kills. So, I feel as if a second objective would make things too easy (still not trying to brag). That said, I wouldn't be completely against a 2nd objective. As long as that objective is either short or optional and encouraged, then sure why not.
1 -
@NightmareReborn Play a killer like Doc, Trapper, Leatherface or Freddy on highranks against good survivors. You stand no chance, even with Ruin. Genrush is definitely a big issue.
4 -
^^^
If gen rush limits the killers I can play (even in green and purple ranks) then it is a problem.
1 -
It doesn't matter. Second objectives would buff ALL killers equally. If you want to make some more killers viable, then buff them individually instead of adding second objectives.
For example, lets say everyone in rank 1 always plays Billy or Nurse. Because of this no other killers are getting any love at high ranks. So adding a second objective would supposedly make these low tier killers more viable, right? So while Doc, Trapper, LF, and Freddy would all be getting buffed. You're also buffing Nurse and Billy just as much. That's why the devs should buff the low tier killers specifically and not ALL of them.

I think ruin should be a base part of the game but to get rid of it there should be some ritual point on every map. Not totems as it shouldn't be something to find. instead a challenge (a second objective) that can be done to get rid of a lesser version of ruin. You either continue to play with a debuff, or go for the second objective
2 -
@NightmareReborn If your matches at highranks with Billy go well, that's great for you. But Billy is still loopable and if you are up against very good survivors, you are going to lose even with him. Even a Nurse can get genrushed badly and won't get a win against these kind of groups.
You can watch any of the very good streamers. It's clear to see that they don't get easy 4ks, far from it, and that even those killers will struggle because of the current unbalanced state of DbD.
4 -
I agree. And another high skill cap killer. I've got so bored without a killer that's both fun to play and difficult. Spirit has finally became consistently good for me and it feels pretty #########. If they add a secondary objective, I can just main survivor until a new killer is added.
I still play the game, but tbh, I am enjoying Fortnite much more since me and my friends just have a laugh. They seem very happy I finally ditched DBD, even if it is just 70% Fortnite and 30% DBD, they're so happy XD.
I used to be more dedicated to this game, but now it's boring as hell. A secondary objective could definitely bring me, and players like me back.

yes
yes
and yes.
just increasing gentimes (like many suggest) is not the way to go here, we NEED secondary objectives that are also fun for the survivors.
i feel like the main problem a lot of "weak" killers have is the time limit. give a wraith enough time to play the way he was designed to play and he can be a LOT better than now. the current meta is to kill survivors as fast and as efficiently as possible (= tunneling and soft camping / only meta killers), cuz if you dont do that, you will have the exits activated without having a single sacrifice (therefore 2 or 3 ppl on their deathhook). i really want the meta to shift over to "play with your prey" instead of "kill everything as fast as possible and race against the clock". maybe a mechanic like Deathgarden has where you get rewarded for leaving grounded survivors and allowing them to get rescued could be introduced?

Get ready for word vomit boys.
I agree with your statement about the lower tier killers get some love, and making some potential changes. What potential changes? That I do not know. However, I still think even if they buff the lower tier killers too, as a 1700hr+ veteran of DBD, the game can get bland, even for me. And I'm someone who genuinely loves DBD, and would 100% spend every available second I have playing it. I think it's time there's a secondary objective of some sort or some sort of new intriguing addition to DBD. Which I'm hopeful for in the coming patches/chapters/updates. For me, that can be a brand new system of a sort (excluding the battle pass, etc-- because I am indeed hyped for that), a new secondary objective, or a gamemode (which I would only want them to add once they're sure that they can release it as balanced as possible and as true to what it's intended to be as possible).
In short, I don't think this thread is only about balance, but I think the DBD community is growing restless with what we all have. Not to say that we're not thankful for the effort the developers have put in to changing the game for the better or anything though. We want to see new enticing developments that make as go "Oh wow, I'm definitely going to be putting another 200hrs into this". I'm not disagreeing with you though, I see both standpoints from a neutral view. With changes and suggestions come unquestionable amounts of potential imbalance and challenges.
You get to a point in this game, where you come to the realization it just needs more content. Sure new players will get a kick out of their first couple of hundred hours, but I've noticed that this game has a lot more long-term loyal players from release than other games too. BHVR needs to also consider what most of their player base is these days. Well over half the profiles I have seen have over 1500-2500hrs, including myself and all of my dbd friends (there's a lot). Because the majority of their playerbase seems to consist of long term players like this, and less casual players who come around every-so-often, the game is lacking right now instead of striving for their best positions to distribute the quality and content the consumers want currently.
TLDR; I wouldn't mind seeing lower tier killers having some love, but we need secondary objectives or some new content to accommodate the veterans, and long-term players (75% of the player base most likely aka their average consumer rn) who are so readily itching for new content. I also understand the challenges and potential imbalance that could occur with adding new mechanics to the game and understand it can be complex.

Actually. HERE is an unpopular opinion:
Secondary objectives won't (inherently) solve gen rush
1 -
But it will help
0 -
After all if the issue was the time from start of game to escaped then we could give all non-top tier Killers a speed boost to solve the problem.
Basically:
Nurse, Spirit, Hag, Billy, Shape would be the same
Everyone else get's +5% MS always.
While it would certainly solve the gen rush's speed problem (since faster killers can handle the current speed) it wouldn't make the game more interesting.
What we REALLY need is a mechanical benefit to prolonged games as survivors, so long as they need to actively obtain those benefits.
An example would be this: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/61175/mid-match-upgrading-a-different-kind-of-secondary-objective#latest
The only reason to not rush the objective is to make it so that you will have a better chance at completing the objective later. And so a good secondary objective should always make sure to accomplish that.

Actually I'ma update that suggestion with a new version. I had some idea's I'd like to pitch reguarding it.
0 -
@NoShinyPony Fair point. Though I think it could be still beneficial. Killers could stop running ruin as this would probably bring them more consistent results.
As a secondary idea (I believe I've seen it suggested before) survivors could be required to gather repair parts. Nothing crazy. A single part per gen. They could be put in chests maybe? That way they have to spend the time searching the chest which could turn out to contain an item instead of a part.
0 -
@NightmareReborn I 110% agree with you.
Unless people actually all bring toolboxes, I don't get this "gen rushing".
If you apply pressure to the gens, you won't get "gen rushed" it's that simple.
