Decisive Strike's Obsession Chance?
So I'm very new to the forums and I'm not 100% sure I'm even doing this correctly or putting it in the right spot,, but I had a game where I was playing the doctor and I don't run any obsession perks. No one was my obsession but I still got d-striked?
I wasn't sure if this was a bug so I didn't file a report, but is this a thing that happens? Hidden decisive strikes? I didn't check to see if anyone else had decisive, but can you run decisive and just not become or have anyone become the obsession?
Edit: oof, I’m not really sure what to think since two of the answers I got are really mixed,, I’ll probably ignore it unless it’s happens again tho. Thank you guys!

If you didn't have an obsession whatsoever in the game, it's a bug.
Otherwise you don't need to be THE obsession to use DS, and it changes the obsession when landed.
I've never heard of this bug though

if your not running any obsession perks, and nor are the survivors, then no-one will be the obsession, its not a bug. and d-strike isnt an obsession perk anymore, it only makes you obsession after you use it.

No, if there is no obsession then there isn't a DS. If there is a single DS in the game, someone will be the obsession, even if it isn't the actual DS user. That's why I think there should always be an obsession in the game because if there isn't, you're guaranteed no DS or Mettle

why the hell would some random person be the obsession, unless you haven't been listening/watching any of the dev streams, they have explained how obsession perks work, and how one becomes the obsession. if the killer is using an obsession perk, and 1 survivor is is too, then that survivor will be the obsession at the start of the game, if only the survivor is using an obsession perk, then they will be the obsession at the start, if there are no obsession perks being used, then no-one will be the obsession at the start. If only the killer is using an obsession perk, then the obsession will be randomly chosen. if there are more then 1 survivors using an obsession perk ( it doesn't matter if the killer does or doesn't use an obsession perk in this scenario) then the obsession will be chosen based on how many perks they each use, for example, if 1 survivor uses mettle of man, and the other uses mettle of man, and object of obsession, then the chance for each survivor will be 1:2, or 33% and 66% for the survivors, and this is how the obsession is chosen between the survivors. if you read the bottom of a perk, and it says, "increases your chance to be the obsession" then it is an obsession perk, and that is it. And now since d-strike does not increase your chance to be obsession anymore, then it isn't an obsession perk anymore. also, if you are playing survivor and someone becomes the obsession and your using ds, then either the killer, or other survivors are using an obsession perk, as you didn't affect the obsession chance at all.

Hmm, when the survivor d-strike you, him becomes the obsession. But the perk just increase the chance of being the obsession, ins't required to start the trial being the obsession. Plus, what if hide this? This is silly. I can't know if the killer runs NOED until the end game starts and he hits someone as well.

Because I've played the game and had it happen to me. I didn't have an obsession perk, or DS. Killer didn't either. One of my teammates did have DS and yet I was the obsession. This was when DS got changed to its current form as well.
