Am I bad at maths or did the devs failed again at explaining numbers?
Detection area of the screen slightly increased for Survivors attempting to reveal Ghost Face. (Slightly enlarged by 4% on each side of the screen, for a total of 8%). I have seen Peanits repeating this too.
It seems the same mistake they did with the endgame timer.
This doesn't make sense to me, if it is 4% on each side isn't it a 4% total too?
Assuming "on each side of the screen" means that i divide the screen vertically in half: make 100 the portion on each side which can detect ghostface. I have 200 units in total of field of view that can detect the killer.
Now let's increase each side by 4%: 104 and 104, for a total of 208 units.
The percent increase in the total view field is (208-200)/200=4%
Saying that 4% on each side is 8%, is like saying instead of investing 1000 euros at 4% it is better to invest 10 times 100 euros at 4% each, it doesn't make sense...

You're over thinking this. He's just saying the 8% total was split evenly.

It'd be a lot less confusing if they showed a survivors screen and highlighted the area which ghostface has to be in to take him out of stealth, It'd settle a lot of questions.

It's basically like radius vs. diameter. Both are true, it's just whatever floats your boat.

4% refers to the two smaller angles (created by dividing the screen), 8% to the big one. It's the same thing said in two different ways.

If a surface is 100cm from left to right, you have an area painted black on the middle that is say 20cm. That means there are 40cm left on both sides. Now you paint 4% more (20x0.04=0.8) to the left and right.
20+(0.8x2)=21.6 cm
Now the black paint covers 21.6 cm of the surface, 8% more than it used to.
They could also mean that it covers 4% more of the whole screen (or surface) which would then be 4cm (100x0.04=4).

Total area of the screen is 100%.
Middle of the screen is a line - this serves as a reference point.
They increased the detection area by 4% on the left side of the line, then another 4% on the right side of the line, for a total of 8%.
If "N" is the area that does not allow for detection, "Y" is the area that does, and "|" is the middle:
[NNNNNNNNNY|YNNNNNNNNN] (original, there are 20 "slots", so each "slot" is 5%)
[NNNNNNNNYY|YNNNNNNNNN] (5% increase in area, but only on the left side of the screen)
[NNNNNNNNYY|YYNNNNNNNN] (5% increase in area, this time on the right side of the screen, for a total of a 10% increase)
