Why is there a tier to killers?
So i've been wondering why is there a tier to the killers, what's the point to releasing low tier killers, why should i pay money for a low tier killer that are ineffective, why do i get punished by the game for wanting to not play the nurse all the time.

Tiers are very much subjective, killers have different abilities and powers that create completely different gameplays, so people can choose the one they enjoy the most and try to master it.
Of course some killers are stronger in general than others, but someone could still be bad with a top tier killer and great with a low tier killer.

I suppose with the different abilities it would be impossible to get them all on a exact level playing field. I've seen a whole load of posts that state there is only 3 or 4 worth playing when trying to deal with looping.

The tier list is there because survivors immediately run to the nearest loop to waste your time while everyone gen rushes you killers that can end those loops and get back to gens faster are inevitably higher tier and those that suck at one or both of those are low tier, there are some exceptions like Billy who has God speed crossing maps but tends to be bad at looping and bhvr wants only to release low tier killers because they don't care about high ranks they only want low ranks to have variety and "fun", this also forces high ranks to eventually get bored and move on to better games or create alts or derank just to get that variety back and to bully the lower ranks

Exactly. You know how many bad nurses I have played? Lots. I recently played one purple rank killer who was using the nurse and it was obvious that was not his main because he was laughably bad. Like Rank 20 bad. Each killer is hard to master. You play a lot with one killer and you're going to struggle when you try a different one. Each killer takes time to get good with.

Yes you are right. But this also says, that I shouldn't waste my time for low tier killers...
That's an important point. The only reason why I'm leveling pig for example is make your choice...

I don't think you waste your time if you enjoy it, not everyone plays to 4k every single match, some people play "weaker" killers because they have a particular ability they like.
For example, since you mentioned pig, i know many people who play her constantly, because they love her dash ability and the stealth mechanic.
Another example i can bring is trapper, he's not really a high tier killer, but i enjoy playing him, because even after 3 years, it's still very satisfying when you catch someone in a trap!
Sometimes it's not about killing them all, you know ;)

Last time i played about a month ago as soon as i got to green ranks it was 99% 4 man SWF going for all the loops. It make it dam near impossible to get out of tier 1 EWI as the shape. I'm not new to playing as him and like i said i was low rank.

Agreed. Despite the fact that some killers are quite simply capable of doing certain things better than other killers the used potential of a killer always comes down to the player using said killer.
Some people are awesome with Wraith and seemingly hopeless with Hillbilly despite the fact Hillbilly is generally considered one of the strongest killers in the game as opposed to Wraith.

The big problem is the amount of time you can waste due to safe, non mindgameble loops.
Looping needs to go so we can then adjust killers accordingly

If you're good with a killer, your opponents are going to struggle, regardless. You could be an amazing Freddy and get a 4k or a terrible Nurse and get no kills.

True, true. I'm a dedicated Wraith main since I joined in..I'm not sure now, but if I remember correctly The Nurse was the most recent killer at that time. With everything that's been happening to our shadow realm walker I couldn't leave him because of his atmosphere, the design, it's perfect.
And I think there's no other Killer that is so dependent on so many variables to get out full strength, one example - map designs. While being a factor crucial for everyone, for Wraith it's "to be or not to be".

I get that some people will be better with some killers then others, but why didn't they attempt to try and make all killers at the same level? Was that just an impossible task?

They have rank 20 play testers, I wouldn't bother with asking why no recent killers have been strong

Tiers are something that evolves from the game, it's not necessarily something the developers design around.
When a character gets released or changed, players will find the absolute most effective way to play that character. This is what a tier list is, a ranking of the most effective killers playing optimally.
So when people say Nurse is top tier, they mean that, if all killers are played perfectly and to their full potential, Nurse will see the most success out of any other killer. (Pre 3.1) Freddy is bottom tier, which means that even if played perfectly he is not effective of a killer as those above him.
Tiers SHOULD be drawn at points where this effectiveness jumps in scale. For the top we have Nurse, then below her are Billy and Spirit. They are generally put in different tiers, and what this means is that at the highest level, Nurse will be exponentially more effective than Billy or Spirit. But in regards to the latter 2, they share the same tier meaning they can both have the same potential for success, but as they have inherently different mechanics you can argue one is slightly better than the other one.
The thing about tier lists in DBD is that it's all subjective. Everyone can agree on Nurse, then Billy/Spirit, then Huntress/Hag but after that it's harder to nail down. Real tier lists are comprised not just from player input, but from tournament results and frame data. The lack of either makes it hard to make an official list.

Best example: I love playing Freddy, who is the worst killer, as I love playing Myers, who is a strong killer.
Yes I am more consistent with Myers considering kills, but hey, I want to have fun. And as long I have fun, it doesn't matter to me if I get a 4k or 0k.
