Plague Update/Rework: a discussion
Howdy. I do not main Plague, but I do play her quite a bit.
The consensus on Plague among reasonable people who play her seems to be that she's solidly mid tier, but extremely unsatisfying to play. Having half your power gated behind survivors cleansing feels terrible, and most of the time you generally play half a killer at a high level. She's not that weak, as everyone being pseudo exposed for the entire trial is more than most M1 killers have. But there is room to improve, both in the fun department and in power.
"What do you mean, she's not weak but should get more power?". Well, here's the thing. The lower you go down the ranks, the more people cleanse, and the more powerful you are. However, at the higher levels of play, people never cleanse. Being injured in this game isn't really dangerous. You're essentially a Myers with perma tier 3 BUT no extra lunge, no extra vault speed and counterable with Dead Hard. If the Plague gets to use her power more, she'll be more of a menace at higher ranks without affecting low rank play that much, which is almost the ideal balance for most killers in the game.
My ideas for changes are:
- Survivors take a lot longer to become Broken via Vile Purge hits (nerf). This nerf will be justified by the changes below.
- Corrupt Purge duration lowered to 40 seconds (again, justified below).
- Survivors gain infection faster when interacting with infected objects or survivors. Survivors no longer need to be fully infected to pass the disease forward. Slightly increase infection time on objects. (buff).
- Every time a Survivor becomes Broken, the Plague automatically gains Corrupt Purge (massive buff.)
The intention with these changes: survivors now have a much bigger incentive to cleanse. If they don't, the Plague WILL get her power immediatly, even if she's chasing someone else.
The Plague would play a lot more towards infecting multiple survivors and objects in the early game. An increased infection time would make it worth her time to infect things, and her getting Corrupt Purge no matter what would make interacting with infected objects dangerous.
The nerfs are suggested to making it less optimal to puke on someone multiple times until you get your power, and the duration nerf is because she'd have many opportunities to use Corrupt Purge during the match.
No matter how the survivors approach the match, the Plague WILL get to use her power multiple times, which would solve the core design problem with the killer.
This idea isn't fully matured yet, and that's why I want people to discuss and bring up other ideas.

Interesting concept. But if you really want to penalize survivors you should run Thanathophobia. That thing is absolutely devastating on Plague since the meta is not to cleanse... and those few people that do cleanse are only playing your game.

The problem with Thanato on her is that you're probably giving up a better perk for it. But I use it sometimes, it's ok but not great.

just let suvivors repair gens slower while broken and its fixed. so simple.

The devs already stated that they like to avoid stuff that slows action speed, and I tend to agree with them on that. It's not THAT simple.

Hello? They literally got the plague. why should they be able to repair a gen at the same speed (while puking on it) or just sprint around the map? That does not make sense, a serious illness should decrease some kind of the survivors' speed.

Gameplay always trumps thematics when talking game design. Good thematics don't make up for ######### gameplay.
