Swf with high rank disparity
I'm rank 12. I feel like I am a rank 12/11 killer. Been playing about 6 months. Been getting so many games lately where 3 survivors are within 1 or 2 ranks of me and then one is purple rank.
The high ranked ends up looping me the whole game, or if i dont chase them and go after someone else, they just show up mid chase and cut me off, or flashlight me, or really just distract me the whole game letting their lower level friends do all the gens.
It's really frustrating. I get that playing against people better than me helps make me better, but I think there's a limit.
Not sure how the algorithm works with huge gaps in rank, but there really has to be a better all around middle ground.

I see a fair bit of this when playing killer. My rank is only 15 but I have been paired with all ranks, right up to a red. I always know when someone in the SWF is higher rank as they put themselves in the way to protect their lower level friends, they try to get me in endless chases and spend as much time as possible trying to taunt me.
When this happens, I ignore the high level - I wont go and chase them, I'll take a swipe at them if they get in the way but I try to prevent them bullying me or running me around the map. Of course, if I manage to hook them, then it's quite satisfying. I had a purple rank in my lobby a few days ago and was rather pleased that I'd managed to sacrifice them.
While I'd prefer not to face 1 similar rank and 3 high ranks (yes, that's happened), at the end of the day, I can't really complain as when I started playing, I had some higher ranked friends (including a red rank) play with me to teach me, which meant some low rank killers sometimes got us in their lobby.

Unfortunately, the devs have never cared about balancing against swf, be it perks or matchmaking. It's especially apparent now, with whatever mojo they've thrown into the matchmaking matrix to make it so random.
All you can do is lobby dodge if you're able, and hope the next batch are closer to your rank, and aren't swf.

I know with Overwatch's ranked grouping system, the game limits how far apart the rank of the highest and the lowest member of the team can be. This way you dont get a group with a bronze and a grandmaster go up abunch of golds or something. Just food for thought.

It is dumb, it should be matched against the high rank as swf is already an advantage. You do right to look out for the decoy but don't forget to tunnel their friends to punish them for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

I made similar topic about this. SWF can just easily exploit whole rank system. All what they have to do is person with green rank start SWF and invite red rank players. Now they will be matched against green killer because system compare only killer rank vs the rank of SWF starter…

The matchmaking doesn't work like that. When I'm red rank and invite people who aren't red ranks, we don't get red rank killers.

One of the devs commented on this semi-recently. It uses the rank of the person who started the SWF lobby to matchmake.

Then that's only the theory (and a bad concept). In practice, it doesn't work like that.
If you personally don't play SWF with different ranks and don't have the experience, you can also take a look at when streamers play with their viewers and which killer rank they get.

(4+3+2+9) VS 11 is exactly working around person who started SWF lobby.

That's not what's happening in my personal experience.
If that happens to you, I agree that this shouldn't be this way.

On one hand im happy because i have become a better player but it's still frustrating as all get out.
I hate tunneling on purpose, as i hate getting tunneled. And i agree that its nice when learning to be able to play with experienced players just starting out, so wouldnt want to punish the noobs lol.
Guess just wish that we could get 2 killers to help the new killers out a bit lol

Honestly it should go based off the highest rank when choosing the killer to put them against. Yes there are those who are trying to teach friends how to play but when you see a Rank 20 and 3 Rank 2's they are just trying to get an easy killer to go against. The other day I got a 4k VS such a group and they were lividly mad at the fact a Rank 10 killer got them all and told me I was bad and should uninstall. I had to laugh and told them maybe they should heed there own advice as they just lost to someone they consider bad. But a lot of the time I find it they are just trying for an easy match when its a group like that. With the bonuses you get out of a SWF I think they should be forced to fight a killer of the highest rank so if you have a rank 3... Enjoy that red ranked killer. Besides in the long run it will make the new player better. You don't teach the new player anything when you have the high rank loop the killer the whole game.

The thing is... climbing up the ladder in OW is broken as hell due to the anchor stats, so not too many persons are deranking... they just buy new account instead.

I agree, the swf rank should have a rank weight of the highest rank in the swf.

Better yet, give killers a toggle in their loadout screen to choose between “All Players” and “Solos Only”. Give them a bloodpoint bonus for choosing All Players. This will ensure that there are still lobbies for SWF to join, and killers have a reason to take on the extra challenge.

This but I think it should be a staggered BP bonus the higher the size group you're willing to take

Oooh I like it! So the option would be something along these lines:
- Solos: Normal Bloodpoints
- SWF 2: +50% Bloodpoints to all categories, awarded post-game on match results screen. (Possible to have 2 teams of 2)
- SWF 3: +75% Bloodpoints to all categories, awarded post-game on match results screen.
- SWF 4: +100% Bloodpoints to all categories, awarded post-game on match results screen.
Your match will include your selected option OR LOWER. If you choose SWF 4, you may end up with SWF 2 and 2 solos, but you still earn the 100% bonus because you were willing to take an SWF 4.
If you lobby dodge, you will be limited to only playing Solos for 15 minutes. This makes sure people don’t choose SWF 4 and then shop around for easier groups. This does not apply if you’ve waited in the lobby over 4 minutes for a complete roster.

Short story from the other side perspective: i was playing killer (rank 12 cause recently i've been playing mostly survivor, 1k hours, first time trying freddy). I got matched against 4 solo claudettes, all of them were 1-3 ranks lower than me. One of them had 5 hours and one 50. HOW. My grandma called me mid game and I stayed on the phone for 2 minutes, I killed them all and I still felt bad hahah next game I found another claudette with 20 hours. Why they're there and what am I supposed to do with them hahah I don't wanna traumatize a new player, I know this game can feel frustrating and hard when you try to get to know it

LC.
Freddy versus newer players is pretty much broken. I'll argue that even against good players, with the right map and add ons, he isnt as bad as people think he is.
But against newer players who dont understand how his powers work and havent really gone up against him, you can most likely 4k with your eyes closed.
When i do get paired up against lower rank players, I do my best to not completely ruin their game. I let them heal, get off hooks safely, do my best not to tunnel. Of course if they run right at me then that's their fault lol.
Ultimately, the point is, matchmaking sucks sometimes. I dont know whow to fix it except like a post above said, have different modes and lobby depending on how you feel like playing.
