New survivor player, how can I better escape the killer early on?

So, I recently got the game off of steam summer sale, picked up Leatherface from the store and Mike's bundle, since I heard Mike was a good killer, and Leatherface had a very good general perk. right now, I've been playing survivor(meg, since the daily needs her) to get my first set of dailies done for bloodpoints, but I don't really feel like I'm doing enough in a match, largely due to an inability to escape the killer when they see me. Even on someone like Mike who seems a bit slower, they catch up to me rather quickly. Now, this isn't complaining about the killers being too fast or anything, I understand that the reason I'm getting captured is my fault, I'm just not sure how to handle it being so new.I know that vaults and pallets are pretty vital, but I'm not sure how to use them effectively, as I usually just get hit trying to use them, anyway. Finding beginner friendly resources seems to be troublesome, as most google searches lead to other posts in the forum, usually rambling on about how killers are broken and ruin the new game experience.

When i started out I watched Youtube videos and seen how people play and incorporated them. So i learned how to juke and last longer due through thoses videos. I do better actually seeing someone do it than reading it. Reading does help like 'Look behind you to see where the killer is so they might cut you off' or 'keep an eye on their red lights to see where they go so you can juke them' but i need to see it. Someone else in the forums that is better in explaining this will come here and help you. Watching Youtube videos and seeing how people play helped me and it might help you too. 😄

Depends. Are you more stealth or a runner?

What I suggest is to remember that killers can see your scratch marks and listen to noise notification. Try to keep objectives top priority and utilize pallets, but learn how to loop. Always rescue when safe and never attempt to escape hook unless all other survivors are downed or hooked. Good luck in the fog!

I found Urban Evasion really useful when starting out as you'll probably want to play stealthily until you get comfortable in chases. Stop running when you lose line of sight and try to urban evade away possibly running back over your own scratchmarks first.

I would also recommend spine chill to give yourself time to get away when the killer is heading in your direction. You can also use it to see if the chasing killer is trying to cut you off in maps like the meat plant when your line of sight is lost (spine chill turns off)

I'd suggest using Urban Evasion, but even better: take Claudette and use Empathy. Don't jump on a generator right away, just wait until someone gets injured in the distance, then you can start repairing.

You can basically stay away from the killer for th ewhole game, and even when everyone else is dead, you still have a chance for the hatch, or the exit gates. Just don't be afraid to let your teammates carry the team. (When you're still new. Once you got a bit of experience, you may be able to get chased and lose the killer.)

There are good YouTube videos out there for beginner players. That's how I got started and it helped out a lot. As said earlier, urban evasion mixed with some darker outfits will help you go without being spotted easily. Self Care will help, as you may get smacked a lot at first, and Sprint burst can give you a quick getaway if needed. Perk choices depend on your play style so do some homework on each one to see what suits you. Good luck 👍

    For survivor

    For killer

I used to only play killer at the start and it really hindered me of becoming better player so you are on right track of playing both sides. Just keep playing and play to improve, meaning dont camp as killer or hide as survivor.

I’m guessing since you’re new you don’t have access to many teachable perks yet, as Meg you have some good perks to start with at least. Just make the best of them.

Get the most of out sprint burst by walking when you can, try to save it till the killer has seen you and use it to get yourself some distance.

When you get into a trial and anytime you’re on a gen, take note of your surroundings. Have a plan of where you’re gonna run if you get found. Knowing where pallets are is very important.

Speaking of, if you don’t want to be the first one found try finding a chest or totem to cleanse before getting right on a gen to avoid being caught during their first patrol.

When you do get chased don’t just run! Run to something. Even if you’re not good at looping yet, you always want to try and extend a chase by using any obstacles you can.

Most importantly, if your teammate is hooked and you don’t have borrowed time, do not unhook them if you hear the heart beat. Seems like a no brainer, but you’d be surprised.

Finally, just have fun with it. You’ll learn as you go, watch other people play and practice, you’ll be surviving in no time.

the best thing to learn is typical map layouts. figure out where stuff tends to spawn

watch how good survivors play (on youtube or twitch), and try to watch them from both perspectives, meaning watching a good survivor play as well as watching killers play against good survivors. this will teach you how people make good use out of stuff like pallets and windows

avoid just hiding along the edge of the map or in corners

and like others said, have fun and try not to care about dying or living

Don't get found. Calm spirit and Spine chill are your go to perks.

Best thing to do is get better in chases, hiding is good as well but watching videos on how to loop and get chased properly will benefit you way more than immersed gameplay.

Try stealth, my current build is spine chill, sprint burst, empathy and lightweight. This gives you optimal avoidance capabilities spine chill goes off sprint burst a short distance away lightweight removes the tracks, watch the killer then return when safe the killer will definitely hit someone soon just not you, empathy takes care of the "where the killer" guess work

Sounds interesting, but it also seems like a chase crutch for someone like me, personally. I don't feel like I'd get better, I'd just get pips, which would hurt more than help in the long run.

    Tips:

1° When chased, run towards a locker (when out of sight of the killer, he's after your scratch marks), stop running and walk away. The killer will believe you went in a locker giving you time to hide.

    2° Learn to 360°, 180°, dodge, etc. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5omVRjqbWI

3° Learn your play style. Stealth, time gainer (mess with the killer), runner, objective based or teamplayer (healer, unhooker, etc.)

4° Use Jake if the doctor is your worst enemy, never run straight lines when facing the huntress, use spinechill to outmatch GF, the pig, wraith and Myers.

5° Learn when to unhook, sometimes it's better to keep working the gens until the last second before unhooking someone, use their time on the hook to do objectives, don't be selfish, let your team use yours to do the same. Have in mind the killer usually camps or stays close to the hooked survivor in low ranks.

6° Avoid unhooking if you've been hooked 2 times already.

7° Use a headset, SWF is way better in every way.

8° Work on your skill checks, if ruin is on, you can still do the gens.
