Killers dodging lobbies...

One thing that’s really starting to bug me is killers dodging lobbies. I’ve realised now that nearly every time I get into a lobby the killer leaves. WHAT IS THE POINT IN CREATING A LOBBY IF YOU’RE GOING TO LEAVE!!!!

Now, I don’t know if this is just on Xbox One but yeah it’s really annoying.

There are reasons to dodge lobbies. Maybe you're not that experienced as the killer and everyone is bloody. Maybe everyone has flashlights? It seems lobbies are more likely to be dodged when there's a Squadette with flashlights.

I prefer people dodging lobbies to quitting.

It's a problem on console, playing killer is harder due to the frames etc.. Also as killer you get games in seconds, so you can pick whatever lobby you want. There are far more survivors than killers unlike on PC. So why would they want to play a 4 man SWF all with BNP's or Flashlights when they can load a new lobby in 2 seconds and have better luck.

Well, an example that might clear things up is, you start a lobby and four bloody Claudettes wearing the same outfit spawn in with flashlights. This means that they're probably SWF and your game is going to suck, so you quit the lobby and start a new one. Killers do it to avoid a game they know they're going to lose just by looking at it.

While I agree, I was a survivor main since launch on PS4, in the last month or 2 I now Killer main. On PS4 (ill assume it's the same issue on Xbox) playing Survivor, especially SWF you can wait 20 minutes just to even find 1 lobby. Then if the killer dodges you have to repeat. So it's hella frustrating. Do I understand the killer? Yes. This is more of a balance problem, maybe if killer was more fun and not such a frustrating grind against SWF, more people would play killer.

On PC I don't see this issue. PS4 after 10 PM EST forget about SWF you going to wait maybe an hour to play 1 game especially if you are ranked past X. You honestly got to stay at Rank 20 to keep getting SWF games consistently. Those killers don't know better and won't dodge, but then again they are not as skilled and the games are boring unless you wanna be like Ochido and act like a jerk.

I dodge 3-4 man SWF 100% of the time as killer. :)

Most likely on XB1 it is a ping issue with the other survivors.  I drop games if I have red ping as a killer or survivor.

I am on PS4 also. I usually play with 1 or 2 other people, so I understand the pain of lobby dodging. I purposely don't equip a flashlight and avoid prestige clothes because people DO dodge and some evenings it is really bad. So as a Survivor, I know the pain.

As a killer, I've maybe dodged a lobby 3-4 times total. Mainly after a rough game against players with flashlights. If I see all 4 people come in at once and they all have flashlights, I just worry that it isn't going to be good for my blood pressure.

Yeah, I am very much the same. If they all show up with Flashlights ill slap on Franklins and see how it plays out. I had a game last week where it was just that, they all had DS as well. After the game they invited me to their party and actually had a good laugh and thanked me for not dodging and taking the game.

It really is an issue, not sure what the solution is since having played so much of both sides the answer isn't simple. One of those things where you got to try to leave your Ego at the door and accept fate.

Well, I get dodged just for having cosmetics or bringing an item to a match to a point where it's so bad that I don't bring things to the match while using cosmetics, so... Some people dodge because they're looking for exclusively easy matches instead of just playing the game. I've seen a lot of people on forums openly admit to doing exactly that, too. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yup been doing it for months now. You can de-rank and usually low rank killers won't dodge or you can keep plugging along. I just decided to be the change I want and main killer.

Ah, but why are they avoiding this challenge?

I'll fill it in - the high-end game for the killer is pretty vicious. You need an abnormally thick skin to deal with co-ordinated survivors. Most people don't have that.

so perhaps the question we should be asking instead of punishing people for avoiding this... what can we do to make it less frustrating but keep the challenge?

    1.Lobby dodging.
    2.De-ranking.

If one or both of these ever get removed, that's the day I uninstall DBD.
I also check the profile of every survivor in the lobby looking at their DBD gamerscore (X1X).

i blame myself for using Alt+Tab till the match starts to come up with a bright-beam-squad after the loading screen.

Dodging lobbies isnt enough, Devs should disable the option of editing the items once you are in the killer lobby as survivor.

I think everybody gets this, if they don't then it's usually that they don't play enough killer. OP how much killer have you played?

Personally if the game is a rough one but everyone just plays the game and manages to outplay me, I am fine, but when they all teabag, click flashlights and wait in the exit gates etc to rub it in, that can really just turn me off. I have hear people excuse Teabagging as ''Hey I am just having fun'', sure but it's a bit lame to rub it in. I had a game couple weeks ago where they won, had doors open, I went and just stood in the basement for them to leave. Loaded up some netflix on to wait, 30 minutes later they were still there waiting. Like really? I know it's ''Not holding the game hostage'' technically but IMO that's abusive as heck.

What are ways to determine if you’re out into a lobby with SWF? Do they all spawn at the same time, is that how you know?
  • only1biggs
    only1biggs Member Posts: 1,178

I just had a 4 man SWF's join. Two had toolboxes, two did not. I had picked Myers with a tombstone piece and when I saw the toolboxes I equipped perma tier 3 with a black ward and readied up...then the other two "6 second swapped". I then crushed them on swamp and two of them dc'd.

    Fabulous.

On topic..I never dodge unless the ping is bad. 4 man SWF's with flashlights are a near guaranteed win as they swarm you and are usually stupid. I'll take that over immersed players or multiple toolboxes all day.
But yes, many killers dodge because they don't want to deal with squads.

I main killer, and I have less than 100 games played ever on PS4 and I am guilty of lobby dodging. Most of the time 1 flashlight and a full bloody survivor makes me dodge. Also when there are more then 2 toolboxes I dodge. Like others it really depends on how my recent rounds have been. If I got a quad I probably won't dodge anyone who is bloody and will deal with a flashlight, but more than one is just sucky.

Yeah that's 1 way, or if you get 1 who comes in and 3 follow all together you can suspect it's 3 of them, if they are wearing the same clothes, 1 has a key others have a map. It's all a guessing thing mostly, but like I said it's so simple to get lobbies as killer on console that if you even suspect SWF or an annoying game it takes no time to just get another one, so killers don't really have any reason to not be selective about the games they want.

Yeah, that's sort of standard feelings I think for newer killers. Eventually you get more comfortable and will move your threshold higher and higher, ie: take 2 flashlights, etc.. Blood clothes honestly doesn't mean anything, just means they played enough games to get them. I know plenty P3 survivors who are crap.

Sometimes I SWF with one person, but it happens when I'm solo too. & I'm PC. It's whack. I don't even use Claudette, I use Dwight in an argyle sweater or the pizza hoodie like 90% of the time. I checked my internet speed & ping too, because it happened so much that I was getting really paranoid about what I was doing wrong on my end. But it became sort of obvious when I decided to play Quintin for a while instead: cosmetics = dodge, toolbox = dodge, cosmetics & toolbox = super dodge.

Exactly. I tried survivor and the wait times were over triple the killers. So I see why a survivor would be mad if they already waited then the killer dodged because the bloody Meg had a flashlight.

I get the frustration as well but @FrenziedRoach makes a valid point. There is a reason they dodge, how or what can be done to fix it, I don't mind playing killer a bunch, but at 9 or 10pm I have a couple friends online, I like to kick back with a beer and run some survivor games and the game is literally unplayable. This isn't a new thing it's going on 6 months of this, I feel like it's a huge issue that no one really has brought out into the light and have had addressed in a legitimate way.

I would be curious to know active killers at night vs survivors. They must know the stats.

Yes it's annoying, but it's also something you need to do to get better as killer. Check your ego and accept defeat and go chase someone else. It's annoying, but in the long run you will get more kills, in fact you probably will catch them later in a spot that isn't as safe. You will learn the go to loop spots, as soon as you identify that on the maps you will know when to simply abandon the chase and try again later.

Harder games make you learn more, I understand it's frustrating but nothing easy or worthwhile is.

Look, I get it the dodges suck as it's happened to me for just putting TTV in my name (a practice I've stopped for both those reasons and tunneling/sandbagging reasons).

I have 800 hours in this game now, it's my second most played game. And one things that's always been constant - Killer gameplay is a much bigger chore to play than survivor. And some nights, you just want to get your murder on without having to deal with 100 loops and endless flashlights. I can take a loss as much as much as the next guy. Hell, I've had some jukes pulled on me that I have nothing but respect for.

But as I progress through the ranks and hit the green ranks - the game changes drastically and my game time as killer drops.

And it's not that I'm not up for the challenge - it's just that I know how much easier it is for the survivor (I play both sides now), and it just sucks knowing I'm putting out more effort than they are.

As survivor I am almost on auto pilot now it's so simple. I welcome a lot of the changes to balance not only as a killer but as a survivor, it will be nice to feel a challenge more than once or twice every 10 games.
