Bring Back Down Vote

I really like the option to down vote. It was an easy way of saying "I disagree with you, but either someone has already made the same counter argument I would or I just don't have the time or interest in posting a reason why".

If someone has counter-argument to post you are going to downvote - just upvote that post.

I'd like to hear why my opinion is not accepted by someone to either see if i've mistaken or overlooked something or if person who argued is mistaken.

I'm a merciful senpai and would've noticed them if I had known who they were. : (

See? This is exactly what I'm talking about. Before, I could have just clicked "Vote Down" and been on my merry way. Likewise, you could have saved time typing all this and just voted my original post down and saved me the trouble of even down voting you in the first place. We'd both be happier that way.

It did have a purpose. I literally just explained it's purpose. It gave people the opportunity to disagree without wasting a lot of time explaining why they disagree. I'm a busy guy. I don't have time to write essays to everyone I disagree with. At a glance, you could have a general feel on whether a viewpoint was popular or unpopular.

Let's take this thread for example. Just looking at my original post you can see that a fair amount of people agree with me. But you don't have a good idea how many people disagree with me without going through the whole thread. Most people don't feel like wasting time reading every post in a thread. So a person who just looked at the original post and maybe skipped to the end would not have a very accurate view on the general consensus of the topic at hand.

@Dreamnomad Hell, it's even more than that. Know what I do with threads or posts I disagree with? I move on and don't bother replying. It's not like a debate changes most minds when it comes to social media, anyway.

  • BadMrFrosty
    BadMrFrosty Member Posts: 1,100

All in all, down votes didn't bother me. If someone wanted to explain why they disagreed with me, cool. If they chose not to and opted for the easy 'click n' go' option of a down vote, that's fine too. Just because someone doesn't agree with me doesn't suddenly make them my ultimate nemesis. We just have different opinions, and you know what? That's A-OK! : )

Meh good riddance (again). Now we'll have less 14 year olds having downvote contests while spammin the board with asinine topics.

Right? I always had one. Even on answering mundane questions with the 100% right answer, I KNEW I'd have one person following to downvote. it felt nice knowing someone was so worried to actually continually do that. 😆

I mean this society is just so watered down. I didn't even notice down vote was removed.

I can't help but wonder how many down votes my thread would have gotten. Guess I'll never know and just have to assume everyone agrees with me.

I agree it should come back. But there were people who would just downvote for no reason so I can see why they did it.

  • miaasma
    miaasma Member Posts: 911

so according to you the purpose of a downvote is to appease people who are too lazy to vocalize their disagreement with someone but still want to weigh in

downvotes didn't mean anything because people's reasons for doing them varied drastically (they don't like the first line of your post, they don't like you period regardless of the content of your posts, etc.)

i personally rarely downvoted anyone because if i wanted to weigh in on a discussion i'd use my words, not sit on the sidelines and pretend to contribute like a troll

After our disccussions I never thought that I would ever agree with you, but here I am and I agree with you :).

By some postings I have write in the past, it was only logial that some people have downvote me, since different people have different point of views, but by others on the other hand, I had thought "how can anyone downvote this" until I had realize, that I got imo my first personal hater :D.

    But that was ok...

  • miaasma
    miaasma Member Posts: 911

i've never downvoted any of your posts no matter how much i disagree with you, i'd just tell you that i disagreed and why

downvotes are unconstructive, add nothing to discussions and just make people feel bad and i'm glad they're gone

So, even though I'm on this thread, I went for the downvote button to show you I disagreed with your statement even though I have no idea who you are, and then realized it wasn't there. So I wrote this post just to tell you I disagreed with your thought. Did I have something to add that someone else hasn't already added? No. But I wanted people who passed by your comment to know that someone disagreed without having to read the entire conversation that has been happening above. That should be simple and easy. Could I do so? No. So I made this post to remind the moderators that it's stupid not to have a dissent button especially when it doesn't affect the post and only serves to expedite simple conversations.

you writing the post to say why you disagreed was immensely more constructive and useful to the discussion than a downvote would have been

They get more mud slung on them than everybody else combined and they allow it. You can't pretend peoples feels are too sensitive when you guys are upset over losing a silly down vote button. The vote up button does the same thing if you want to feel like you've gotten one over on somebody by rallying up a big enough mob and saying witch. It only takes half the work now too. 😀

Course they would, because feelings are precious and can't be hurt, or opinions can't be shared.

I have a suggestion: remove any comments expressing disagreement with anything. If we want to protect people's feelings, why not go all the way?

The most sensible post in this entire silly thread.

  • JESUS_CHRIST

More hurt feels talkin' about other peoples hurt feels. Let's go the other route and go all out with personal attacks and trade in discussion for a strait up popularity contest. That sounds like the most constructive route in my opinion.

I only disliked the downvote because normally I had no clue why people used it. If you don't like something I said, I want to know why!

But it argueable did more good than harm, so yeah I miss it.

Is glad the down vote button is gone, as from a previous post i made to get rid of it...it happened! i mean we, well most of us are adult enough to make opinions, talk of or disagreements without just hitting the button. Yes people will say i am a snowflake, others are, but knowing every thing you post, even the good stuff just gets a downvote makes you wonder. Spread the positive love not the negative :) ty devs

Yea i ######### miss this option. Im reading so much trash and I cant dislike it.

I mean at first I wasnt sure about this function because I thought it would be toxic and ######### but then I thought over it and yea.. I agree with the point freedom of speech. Showing feedback or using it as a Strawpoll.

Honestly Im sure this button was a big reason to hang a little bit more around here. People will always try to exploit any thing.

What ever, i loved it WANIT BACK

I don't like the downvote button that much because if you disagree with something, then just upvote the person who said what you was going to say. If you can't type out a reason, then that's okay, someone will eventually bet you to it.

    @Mushwin you're a likeable person. But.

YOU ARE A GODDAMN SNOWFLAKE!!!! :)

No offense, but disagreeing with someone is not "negativity" for Christ's sake... (If you asked someone if they think eating margarine is good for your health, and they say no... would that be "negativity"? Same thing.)

Sure, some posts that don't even have a statement received a lot of upvotes, even one that were just a question, or a "hello" or something. But generally, when someone posted something blatantly stupid, or some honest but misguided suggestion due to lack of experience with the game, or any bad idea really, these posts tended to receive a large number of downvotes, and with good reason. Likewise, good ideas usually got a number of upvotes. But now that we're only allowed to agree but not to disagree, it's pointless.

I'm almost sure it didn't actually happened because of real abuse (real abuse would mean someone creating a bunch of fake accounts and spamming downvotes). It's probably some Canadian thing. I hear they're not allowed to say bad things about anything or anyone, ever.

Remove the upvotes. Its just a virtual ruler some people use here to compare their dick sizes (Spoiler: if you feel like you need to fo this then you probably got the smallest of them all).
