Why is there a rank reset?
I don't understand. This just puts rank 20 killers and survivors in with people who should no longer be a lower rank constantly, giving newer/worse killers a bad time and better survivors a bad time. I feel like it distorts win rates, etc. In the case of survivors who don't play for a while, this can easily be fixed by instead of making individual rank decay instead of reset.

The only reason (that I can think of) is that it’s to have people who haven’t played in a while in lower ranks I so that they can get reacquainted with the game.

@Luigifan64 That's why ranked decay should exist instead. Rank reset just ruins everything.

Simple. So that I can be bullied by rank 1 survivors at rank 15

@NuclearBurrito that happens at any rank because of SWF's matchmaking, lol.

@Peanits could we get an explanation for this outside of "It's for people who haven't played in a while"? Because a ranked decay would fix that.

1) Replace the rank reset with a rank decay, as stated. Ranks can fall as low as 16 under this system (or if you're rank 17 or lower, down to rank 20).
2) Outside of rank decay, you should be ABSOLUTELY LOCKED TO YOUR RANK RANGE. i.e., once you get to green ranks (9-12), you cannot ever fall below rank 12 (the lowest green rank) for losses. Same goes for purple ranks (5-8) and red ranks (1-4).
3) In SWF groups, the highest-rank survivor is used as the setpoint for the killer rank range to search for.
Doing this would force people to completely stop playing the game in order to truly de-rank, and it would shackle them to their own true skill level in terms of matchmaking, and it would subject out-of-bounds teammates to games versus better killers if they insist on playing with friends who are out of their league.
Now, obviously, I can't sit here and say "This would solve every matchmaking problem," because I dunno how it would work in practice. But I bet it would at least be an improvement.

@Rydog I dunno if I would agree with removing the ability to go down in ranks upon reaching green/purple/red ranks. Say you had some really lucky games and got to purple, but were really green ranked still skill-wise. This would kind of ruin that. I do think you should still be able to de-pip, but a game ending with little points for the killer in higher ranks should perhaps not count for rank for either the survivors or killer. Or implement some feature to detect depip attempts. Perhaps anything less than half of a black pip doesn't count for ranking purposes in green or higher ranks.

How many lucky games do you suppose you would need to go from the bottom of rank 12 to the bottom of rank 8?

@Rydog Say you're rank 13, and then you get to rank 12, if you can never go below rank 12 after that, but are really not green rank(Despite it only being one rank, eventually the disparity gets wider and wider between ranks so this could be important), you might be put in more games you're not up to the challenge for, but you can't go back below green so you're stuck there. Perhaps they could rework ranking to need more pips per rank at higher ranks(maybe 5 pips for green ranks, 6 for purple, and 7 for red), which would (hopefully)fix the issue on it's own due to having to lose more pips to go down. I don't think locking someone to a rank forever is really the way to go, as someone could just suddenly start being bad. I mean yeah, ranked decay if you haven't played for a while, but depending on how fast or slow that is, you may still be in a rank you're not suited for after not playing a while. No game LOCKS someone into a rank, and while DBD isn't like other games, I feel like rank locking is a bad way to go. Sure deranking shouldn't be encouraged, but it probably shouldn't be where you're constantly stuck in a loop of stressful games if you're not up to the task anymore.

Ranking up is too easy. Given enough time, everyone eventually would reach red ranks. Dead by Daylight has a very very slow growth in playerbase, which means that newcomers would have no one to play with. Its there to keep the game alive. A nessecary evil.

@ABannedCat No one has fun obliterating rank 20s, including the rank 20s. No one also has fun being stuck in a game WITH rank 20s at rank 16 when rank reset occurs. I'm sure there'd be enough people who stay in low ranks to keep the newcomers playing. I'd imagine newcomers still have plenty of people playing with them right before rank reset occurs.
