Make skill-checks more appealing - Rework?

Pressing M1 for 80 seconds on a generator with the occasional skill-check can be very tedious. What if there were e.g. 5 different skill-checks that can appear which you would have to complete? Like drawing different symbols (Zig-Zag, Circle, 8, etc.), so you wouldn't dose off and would have to concentrate more. Hex Skill-Checks could be used for 80-90% "perfect" completion of the skill-check (staying withing he lines). You would only have to press M1 once and can interrupt repairing by walking away from generator.
