How to value Balanced Landing perk?
I started DbD yesterday but i have been watching the game for a few years.
I watched a few latest DbD perk tier videos and Balanced Landing perk is rated really highly.
And sure when i am on a map that has a lot of such places where i can "fall" to trigger it the perk is of amazing value.
However then there are quite a few other maps where such ledges/cliffs are rather rare.
Sometimes it happens that i dont get to use Balanced Landing during the entire match simply because the map and the situation (teammates & killer) makes it impractical despite me trying to be near such elevated locations.
So i am really unsure how to value Balance Landing as a perk?
On some maps it is awesome and on some maps/matches it is borderline useless.
Feels very random and unreliable... and i kinda prefer Perks that i can count on to be useful (Spine Chill, Urban Evasion etc).
Should i still always use Balanced Landing?

No, use what you find the best to fit your style.
Bl is indeed powerful in many maps but useless in others, like shelter Woods.
Lithe is a safer option since you can use it on pallets and windows BUT it's risky because you can get hit through a window.
Sb is good to reach a safe spot when out of position, but forces you to walk in some parts of the match so it does require a specific build.
Dh is good in chases but you need to learn when and how to use it, plus it's kinda useless if you have bad ping
Try and see what works for you

The only real map where balanced landing has zero use is sheltered woods because there's no hills or elevated platforms to jump from, every other map has at least two platforms you can jump from.
When I start to work on a gen I try and plan my route that I'll take if the killer comes for and I usually try and keep near a hill or building where I can jump from and keep the chase going for a bit longer. It sometimes pays to have a bit of a scout around the map to get your bearings on what kind of platforms you have at your disposal.
You've only started playing but the more you play the more you'll understand where you can jump from and where to place yourself .

In every map you can use BL in the stairs of the basement if the killer chases you.

BL is a really good perk IF you know the maps and how to run. But if you want a safer option i would just pick up Lithe instead.

wait, you can't use balanced landing on shelter woods? what about the stairs in the basement?

You can also climb the base of the tree in the middle in a certain way and drop long enough to trigger it I'm pretty sure. Still a lot less useful than on maps with distinct hills or elevation differences though, but it IS a pretty funny trick 😄

There are two spots. You can drop onto the basement stairs to get the speed boost, or you can climb up the tree in the middle and drop off.
Back to the originally post, you pretty much answered your own question. It can be great, or it can be weak. It depends on the map. We try to keep it in mind when making new maps or changing old ones.
