Advice: Taking the game too seriously

So the bulk of my time playing this game has been survivor based and so in recent months, ive been trying to improve my skills as killer and the two main killers ive gravitated towards are (as my name suggests) spirit and hag. What i want advice on is how to take a loss as killer and not feel so....just down about the game afterwards. Like i can die as survivor and even get camped and might feel a little frustrated but i can easily move to the next game. If i have a bad game as killer, i get demotivated to play the game for like....days lol Its bad because i really want to build my skills as killer and im definitely better than i was in the past but now im like rank 10 and gettin paired with really good survivors so how can i still enjoy the game as killer even when i get my butt kicked?

I find it's a far more enjoyable game when you stop caring about how many kills you get, but rather, how many chases you win.

Not much else to add that @Laakeri hasn't.

If you can accept dying as survivor, then you can accept not getting kills as killer. They are two sides to the same coin.

It’s stress levels. Killer is much more stressful just about all the time until you’re in the “safe zone” of two dead and 2-3 Gens left. There is much more pressure for you to preform well individually as a Killer than Survivor. The only time you have the same level of pressure on you to preform well as Survivor is when you’re being chased.

As Survivor you can relax a bit when you know the Killer is chasing someone else or otherwise occupied.

It’s the feeling of “busting your balls” at all times as a Killer that drains your mental fortitude. If you lose, it feels like you “busted your balls for nothing”. Where as Survivor it feels like that only if you did a ton of chases and ran the Killer around for 3-4 Gens. Plus, as stated before, the pressure isn’t ALL ON YOU as Survivor, you share it with your team. As Killer, it is ALL on you, and you alone.

I take every game as a learning experience. Each game you play is an attempt to learn something new - try out new strategies, techs, pressuring, etc. Sometimes you'll mess up, or someone will be difficult to catch or to escape. That's frustrating in the moment, for sure. What matters is how you feel after: a lot of players will blame someone else and not grow.

I try to reevaluate how I played the match and figure out what to do better next time. Admittedly, it takes a lot of self-awareness to do that, and we're all guilty of thinking into the personal interactions with people in post-game chats too much. Ultimately, it's just a game, and our goal is to have fun and enjoy our time playing. Playing into your own tilt will lead to more tilt - I take breaks when I feel myself heading down that road. Switch it up, play the other side, or find something else to do before coming back and trying again.

If you ever need to rant about a game and get it out of your system before going back and playing again, my DMs are always open 🤗

I play this game to have fun. It's the other players ruining the fun for me

I can't add much more than everyone already has but i will say this in case you haven't done it already.

If you're on PC get rid of chat, if you're on console, turn off the ability for people to message you. Killer is stressful enough, when you have adults behaving like 12 year old's whether they win or not, in the end game chat, it can make it worse.

I relaxed and accepted my losses a lot more without four other people grinding myface in the dirt to make themselves feel better.

Small tip for hag; Don't go for just the trap under the hook, trap the exit points from the hook. A lot of survivors will only stealth long enough to get away from the hook then will run :)

Keep at it though, hag and spirit are genuine fun to play once you find a way to balance the stress.

    Good luck!

I wouldn't feel down as a killer for losing if it was a legit loss, and not some stupidity like key escapes, escapes due to adrenawin, ds and instaheals etc. Same for survivor, I wouldn't mind losing if I lost legitimately and not because my teammates have no brain.

TBH this would be easier if there was a QM mode and a ranked mode. Always having a rank above your head enforces a incredibly sweaty and toxic gameplay, with survivors gen rushing and ending games in minutes too killers slugging because it's the only true counter too gen rushing. With a QM mode and a Ranked mode this game could be incredibly better, but with a constant rank mode, it's pretty much impossible too play for fun, especially at high ranks. Can't run a fun build as killer if it doesn't contain ruin since survivors will always gen rush.

@Spirit_Hag Some matches you will just get outplayed it happens to EVERYONE. Don't try to take the game too serious and get demotivated or frustrated. The only things real in this game are the Grind, the Bloodpoints and the Bugs/Exploits. Nothing else matters.
