Why is Ghostface a Chapter and not a Paragraph?
See, cause he's just a killer with no Map or accompanying Survivor. So what gives?

Because inconsistencies.

It seems like they've more or less abandoned the idea of "paragraphs".

Don't worry. I'm damn sure we will get a Starcourt Mall map with the upcoming Stranger Things chapter.

Paragraphs don't exist anymore. That term has been retconned.
Character dlc = Chapter now.

@Thaznar Its happening its all but confirmed. Every dev listed on the tweet netflix sent out mentioning bhvr as one of them got a stranger things dlc.

@Thaznar Original teaser by Netflix
See Ubisoft, Roblox and Epic mentioned in upcoming projects with netflix next to DbD devs bhvr?
Well since then...
Epics partnership deal.
Roblox deal...
Next up is ubi and bhvr i'm noticing a trend from netflix's tweet.

the only time a dlc has been referred to as a paragraph was Bill, and then the wiki referred to every -single- character dlc as a paragraph from the out, confusing people and expecting the devs to adhere to that.

What difference would it make? Honestly. Chapter... Paragraph... they are just words. The Ghostface release would still be the same.
1 -
Except the wiki refers to Ghostface as a Chapter. The wiki even points out that Ghostface is the only Chapter to not have a map or a Survivor. So why is it a Chapter in the first place?

The difference rests on the fact that a chapter is supposed to bring in a new killer, a new survivor and a new map, while a paragraph only adds either a survivor OR a killer, no map.
And many people, like me, were extremely disappointed about not having Sydney Prescott added to the survivor roster.

Because they say chapter even if it is a paragraph

Yes because the wiki developer finally stopped calling then paragraphs.
The only time behaviour have called something a paragraph was bill, all the other one character dlcs have been called chapters, ONLY the wiki developer kept calling them paragraphs up until ghostface

Because devs are crazy

Didn't Leatherface come with a Swamp map variant?

yea same I hope she can still get in love to play as Sydney Prescott with great new perks she was bad ass in the movies.

Between Ash, Ghostface, the Freddy rework, and the Springwood rework since Chapter 11, that feels like plenty of content overall for the chapter 12 cycle, in my opinion. Some stuff just came out earlier and some came out later.

They didn't get rights to scream only rights to the mask from fun world div.

If they could have gotten the Scream film rights, I guarantee they would have added Sidney Prescott and a Woodsboro map along with Ghostface, thus making it a proper 'chapter'. Unfortunately however, that did not happen, so instead, we just got Ghostface, though not from the films, despite there being some nods to the films regardless. My guess on why they didn't just give us an original map and survivor was because if they had done that, the Scream film fans would have likely been upset that they gave us those, instead of getting the rights to do it right by giving us the real deal. So, they played it safe by just giving us Ghostface alone. Still though, it should be called a 'paragraph', not a 'chapter'.

Bill was officially a Paragraph, which the devs defined as a single-Character DLC without an accompanying Map.
Leatherface was supposed to be a Chapter at first, but then got downgraded to single-Character DLC or what had been established as a Paragraph.
Even though the devs talked of an Ash vs Evil Dead Chapter, it had no place in the numbering scheme of actual Chapters and was again a single-character DLC or a Paragraph.
Since the devs clearly labelled Ghost Face as Chapter XII, there was no choice to not name it that, even though to veterans of the game, that learnt to call single-character DLCs a Paragraph, that was a farce.
Don't blame the Wiki editors for the confusing, but rather the devs for not sticking to their own definitions.

Hypothesis
There's a lot of big updates coming in the next Chapter, so they called Ghost Face "Chapter 12" in order to be able to make all these massive changes in "SPOOKY CHAPTER NUMBER 13!!!"

I know it's just a name but I guess calling paragraph to a "one surv/killer DLC" is cool. And it's a reason about why the chapters are called chapters and not just DLC 5 or DLC 8.

My theory is that the devs were hard on work with the Freddy Rework, so they probably pushed GF as a killer only chapter to work on bigger stuff.

@Raccoon Is there actually a lot though? There is 2 or 3 things unless you're counting 3.3.0 as well. Am i just forgetting something/being a dumb dumb?
3.2.0 should be the dlc+servers+the friendship stuff
If you're counting mid chapter though yeah next one is huge.
That'd be DLC+Servers+Friendship is magical+Archives/Rifts/Lore/Mini Challenges and Charms+ Whatever unannounced balance/gameplay stuff is planned for 3.2.0 and 3.3.0

I already burned/criticized them for not making a map. I of course don't know the details they made with funworld with the mask but they were allowed to make their own character to go with it so what really happened with the map?
Were there negotiations for a map or was it just never talked about and only made a deal for bright cosmetics?
I'm not saying that mall would have been the perfect map but an indoor map is where Ghostface thrives.

@HatCreature I'm willing to bet the Badham rework ate Ghost Face's map.
We got 4 new arranged versions of badham with texture/loop changes too soon after for that to not be the case.

@Bbbrian2013 I can accept that
