How to grab survivors

Hey ! I have played A LOT as killer, and everytime I grab someone I don't know how I did it. I have missed many opportunities like survivors opening hatch or survivors opening doors or rescuing from hook but I start pressing buttons and sometimes I grab and other times I miss (most of the time I miss)...  May you help me?

Judgement

Depends on the situation;

To grab from window and pallet vaults, a Survivor needs to be Injured, you need to be within range, and you have to click/tap the attack button, and not lunge. Lunging just becomes a standard attack.

Healthy survivors can be grabbed directly out of lockers (from searching or from transitioning into and out of), off generators while they are working on it, from hooks while actively sabotaging, and from survivors they are rescuing from the hook. Same with window/pallet pulls, you need to tap the button within close range to perform a grab.

Be advised that there are known bugs with some grabs, likely due to latency issues. Sometimes the Killer will be in the grab start animation, but the grab won’t work and either become a lunge, or the Killer will be stuck that way.

Grabs are much easier with stealth Killers and the Spirit due to their nature of making survivors unaware and unprepared and vulnerable to an immediate grab.

Basically you just click the same button as you'd hit them normally.

If the survivors keep doing their activity (keep opening the exit gates, repairing gens,....), you'll grab them automatically.

If the survivors let go from the gen (which is most likely if they notice you in time), you'll hit them instead.

You can't grab them anymore when they jump through the hatch. But you can close the hatch instead.

You can also grab them when they slow or medium vault windows or pallets while injured.
