I have heard there is no Cross Platform Compatibility for this, but all the articles I could find were from 2017. I have a Windows 10 laptop with the X Box Console Companion - would I possibly be able to play with my cousin on Xbox by downloading DBD through the Microsoft store??? Thanks!

No it does not currently have cross platform support. A while back it was mentioned in a survey for interest though, so it is a possibility for the future. Dont expect it any time soon.
