Hi all. I know DBD has been out for a while but I'm just coming aboard. There's seems like a number of frustrations but all I'm interested in is what's good about it and any tips/advice for a new player? There's a lot of threads and what not so please don't think me lazy, but I'm hopeful some of you will point me in the right direction regards good threads to read by way of linking for me? Many thanks in advance. PS I'm besides myself waiting for my 1st go on Halloween!!!! :-)

The game is very hard for new players, especially when rank reset is there and you can get paired with really good players, for now you should be good 'tho. Rank reset happens every 13th of the month and puts players with high ranks back to lower ranks.

I'd honestly recommend to play killer first, the survivors can be really annoying with T-bag gestures and very good loops that can make you lose the game, but it's important to know how the game works. As killer you will learn more about scratch marks, sound notifications, gameplay... All of that will eventually come in handy when you play survivor as well, because you know what the result of your actions will be towards the killer.

For really basic gameplay i'd recommend 'The Trapper' or 'Wraith', but be warned that these killers ain't powerful, they should give you a feel of the game 'tho. If you want a powerful (free) killer, you can try out Nurse or Hillbilly, they have a different playstyle but after some games you should get the hang of it and probably get some satisfying hits :).

If you've got some friends who are also playing DBD, try "Kill your friends" to gain experience in a non hostile surrounding (well... that depends on your friends). The new PTB that is starting tomorrow will come with a brand new tutorial for survivors and killers. Maybe give it a try and see how far it can get you. After 2 years there's probably lots of stuff that we "old" players don't think about anymore but which is important to new players. Maybe play some rounds and if you've got specific questions on some topics, post them in the apropriate subforum. Besides that, keep on playing and playing anf playing to understand the mechanics and perks and get to know the maps and spawns.

I can give you some killer tips:

    1. Make sure to always kick gens.

    2. Don't camp when you hooked someone, but don't get too far away.

    3. Unless you use the Derrstalker perk, if you down somone and  you see another survivor nearby, don't go to him, first hook the downed person and then kill the other one.

    4. Before you start playing, watch some gameplays of different killer, choose the one you like the most and then play.
So you won't fall to a killer you won't like.

    5. Sometimes there are stuff that are even more important than hitting a survivor.
If you're in a chase and you pass by a generator that is 90% done, leave the survivor, kick it and then go to him again.

    6. Try to understand all the game mechanics before playing.
Hexes, The Basement, Windows Blocking, Perks, Offerings, Bloodweb, etc'..

    7. Destroy pallets, always.
Even tho it takes time and it'll be annoying.

    8. Make some tricks to the survivor.
Act like you're going left when you're right..

    9. Make a good perk build.

    10. Try to find what you main, killer or survivor.
Maybe all of those killer tips are useless, lmao.

Big thing is, as a killer don't camp. Hook and walk away. You can hook all survivors up to 3 times which will net you a lot of points. Don't worry about getting kills... just get as many hooks as you can. You could camp and get a 4 kill and walk out with barely 10k points. If you get every survivor hooked twice, but get no kills, you'll still get twice as many points as you would if you camped and got a 4 kill. Another thing is, play trapper to start out with and use the points you get and put it towards a killer with teachables you want. Once you get the teachables you like, start leveling up the killer you want to main as. Hope this helps :)

The game has a way of making new players want to quit quite quickly. I fully recommend trying out all of the killers before deciding which one works for you. When I first got the game I only tried billy and now he is my least favorite killer to play. On the survivor side you want to level up Claudette first, the survivors are just skins with different teachable perks and Claudette's self care is the best perk in the game. Other then that the game is just learning with time. If you want I can try to help you out if you play on steam. Feel free to add me

First question for you is survivor or killer , if survivor pick Claudette put the darkest cosmetic on her and completely match with the environment ,if killer pick hillbilly and just chainsaw fake for free hits . gl on your career on the game ;)
