Penalty for Players Disconnecting

Hi,

I want to start off by saying that I know this topic has been brought up a number of times, but it has been an issue for a very long time, and has gotten even more popular recently (I've been playing since the game was released).

In at least 25% of the games I play, at least one survivor will disconnect/ragequit. While I realize killers sometimes quit, too, there is a very clear difference: when a killer quits, only the killer themselves is penalized. Survivors walk out unscathed, only possibly disappointed that they didn't get their escape etc. points. On the other hand, if a survivor quits, both the killer and the other survivors are penalized. The game can almost be guaranteed to be a loss for the remaining survivors, and the killer gets FAR fewer points.

This is a big issue for multiple reasons, and is one that hurts the game a lot, especially when it will be gaining a lot of new players as the new DLC comes out -- it's a very bad look. The first thing is the obvious issue -- it ruins the fun. It ruins the game for the other players in it, and if I were a new player excitedly coming to the game, only to see that either my teammates or the survivors I play against were quitting, it would be a big turn-off for me to see that the attitude of the community is this way, and that my immersion has now been broken.

The other issue is de-ranking. Survivors and killers often do this to de-rank so they can play against less-formidable opponents at lower ranks. This is clearly a problem, especially for new players, as they have to often play against players at the same rank as them, with a LOT more experience than them. This is also a huge turn-off.

As far as a solution/penalty goes, both killer and survivors should be treated equally, with the thought in mind that the disconnection may not have been malicious, as people do sometimes disconnect of course if their game crashes, internet dies, etc.

A potential solution would be as so:

1st DC in 24 hrs: 5 min queue (survivor and killer) timeout -- if someone DCs by accident, this should not affect them at all, as by the time they have everything fixed and are ready for a new game, their timeout will likely be up.

2nd DC in 24 hrs: 10 min queue timeout -- similar to first penalty. This prevents a malicious player from quitting and hopping right back in a new game, and in the case where the DC was not malicious, it gives them some time to try and fix their issue. If you disconnect from multiple matches in a row, regardless of your issue, you are harming other players' games/experiences, so you should take some time to figure out your issue before queuing up again.

3rd DC in 24 hours: 30 min-1hr timeout. This is what will prevent constant disconnecting and abuse of the queue and ranking systems.

These guidelines are loose, but I believe this would be a good start to handling the issue of the constant disconnecting of players. Waiting in a long queue, only to have survivors disconnect in multiple games, back-to-back, really puts others and me off from playing the game and certainly leaves a bad taste in one's mouth.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see this issue acted upon soon.

Following dedicated servers, we will shift our focus to a new system to punish disconnects. This new system will feature a growing “lock-out” timer for each time a player disconnects from a match, preventing them from re-queuing until their timer expires. Survive With Friends groups including a player who is currently locked-out will be unable to queue until the lock-out timers for all Survivors in the lobby have expired. The length of the timer gradually decreases so long as the player does not disconnect from additional matches.

This is what was said by the devs on July 5th, Nothing has been said after that so its unknown if its still the plan.

Thanks for the info -- sounds like my idea is similar to the one they are planning to implement.
