Advice for someone struggling in red ranks

I just started getting to red ranks and frankly it sucks. I play mainly solo survivor on PS4 and I figured I'd have much better matches because the killers would be highly skilled that they wouldn't need to tunnel, camp, slug, etc. unless the survivor is being toxic of course. I don't teabag, flashlight, body block, etc. I'm surprised at how much I get tunneled, camped and/or slugged. I barely earn any BP and most of the matches are so unenjoyable. I'll never be an expert juker. My stealthy game got me to red ranks, but it isn't holding up anymore. I wish I could de-rank back to green. I don't like to dcn or suicide because that's not fair to my fellow survivors. I'm tired of people saying "git gud." I'm tired of getting messages from killers afterwards saying "gg too ez" after they annihilated the team. I don't understand how a 5 minute game is fun for them. I wish I could maintain a more positive attitude. I play killer occasionally, but I've never liked playing 1st person perspective. I guess most people will say I should take a break. Thanks for listening. Sorry for the long rant.

Solo queue does suck in general because survivors are so random but in terms of killer, at red ranks you need to learn how to loop. Stealthing will only get you but so far. Slugging at red ranks is also quite common. But yeah my best advice is to learn how to loop and pay attention to what red rank survivors and killers do then try to adapt accordingly.

I ran into this exact same hurdle like half a year ago. Stealth can take you to red but it doesn't work in Red. The killers are too savvy to be fooled by stealth. You need to learn loops.

Killers at this level are also very strategic. They know the weak link - - you. If the game is not going in their favor they will tunnel you to get momentum back.

Nothing to be done but learn to loup.

Hey run, from the red ranks. It's horrible. I hate being rank 1 it's just to easy to reach

  • Yes that’s exactly it. Stealth isn’t working anymore. I can loop to a certain degree, but I’m far from being good enough to handle red rank killers.

  • I’m so unhappy in red ranks. I don’t have any fun. The killers figure out I’m not an expert looper so they tunnel me. I got to red ranks last season, but late in the season so I didn’t have to wait long for reset. This time it only took me less than a week. Now I’m stuck.

It's always a sweaty game. I want to play the game to enjoy it. I'm always playing sweaty nurses, Billy and spirit. With meta perks =no fun.

And when playing those killers. It's like you almost always have to use sweaty meta perks.. . Also =no fun... I want to run meme perk builds and get enjoyment.

There is actually something you can try.

What I did was up my stealth game to immersion level but only to avoid the killer early. Spine Chill is a must. Then I run no Mither and resilience and rely on my team to loop while I do gens.

I also worked on my juke game. You also need to prep for spirit and nurse. Though in your case I think just spirit? Since you're on PS4.

It's. Not super consistent though so I never reached rank 1.

  • Exactly. I’m tired of running the same perks over and over and over. It’s no fun. After a long stressful day at work, I just want to unwind and enjoy myself. I use to be able to run certain “fun” perk builds and enjoy experimenting.

True but what you get is toxic builds that end up camping anyway.. .. hashtags no fun

Are killers really messaging you gg ez? That's lame.

A lot of this might seem like basic stuff but I don't know what exactly you are having a hard time with

Are you being found and going down quickly? Are teammates leaving you on hook or unhooking near the killer? Stealth is hard at high ranks but can be made easier with the right build. Such as quick and quiet, iron will (highly recommend), dance with me, fixated and so on. Using darker clothes helps too. Especially with Claudette. Perks like that can help avoid chases and help in losing a killer when found.

If stealth just is not working then knowing the killer and how their used can help. Knowing wgen to be stealthy is also important. Sometimes it's best to try looping and juking the killer to buy some time while the others do gens. Especially if you haven't been hooked. Oftentimes, I'll find the stealthy person last after most of the team has been killed off when they could have distracted the killer to help the team stay alive longer.

Neither stealth or looping by themselves will get you through a tough game. You have tobread the situation and determine which is best at that time.

Does Plague have corrupt purge? Might be best to wait it out or work on a gen farther away. Tier 3 Myers? Same as corrupt Plague. If it's a chainsaw happy Billy then juking him would buy a lot of time. I'd go on but I don't want to write a book when I don't know the specifics of what you're having difficulty with.

  • Thank you for your feedback. I will try that. I guess if I’m going to run no mither I need to run iron will.

    Try fixated

Plus being red ranks makes it harder to ply with friends newer to the game or at green ranks. Specially now with new update. Rank 13 friend and rank 16 friend got destroyed by a rank 4 freddy.

The build I used back then was Iron Will, No Mither, Resilience and Spine Chill.

Don't take risks, if spine chill lights up run and go to the next Gen. Always keep busy can't afford to waste time, but play it safe.

I'm actually in red again right now on PC. I'll try using Fixated into the build.

I'm actually not using my mian I'm using Dwight since I'm prestiging him to p3, using up all his p2 junk before I p3 him. I got back into red just this morning. My build is currently a mess, level 1 Inner Strength, BT, Unbreakable 2 and Auto Didacy 3. But somehow I'm doing fine. I guess all that looping paid off. I can at least survive in Red.

Like everyone else I hate playing in red, everyone is so sweaty and meta, it's no fun.

  • Thank for the feedback. Yes, killers have messaged me that. I typically do not respond. Why does it seem that so many high ranks killers have highly inflated egos? Anyway, my biggest issue is not lasting very long in chases when I am discovered and I try to lose them with stealth, but they’re too savvy most of the time. Then I end up getting tunneled after I’m hooked because I’m easier prey.

Juking is hard in red, it really is. I think I only have like a 10% juke rate in Red. It's hard.

It's a pvp game. There will always be a meta and "sweaty" games. This is a flaw with the dbd ranking system (or lack thereof) not with the playerbase.

There needs to be rewards for ranks and longer seasons, and a separate league for "practice" and "casuals".

They should.mimick the HotS competitive league and "AI" league. (Not saying that should be an AI mode specifically, but I would play it!). The real rewards should be in the seasonal rankings.

  • I can’t get any escape rituals done because I never escape. I just played a match again where the killer just slugged everyone and I was the last person standing because I was just fixing gens. I was on the 2nd floor of the main lodge in Ormond getting a good view so I could spot the killer & come up with a plan , but he looked up & spotted me when I was making my move. Well that didn’t end well. Another quick game. All the survivors were rank 3 and above. Sigh.

  • I would play AI. I would love it if there was a casual league. I’m not super competitive so I feel I don’t fit it with other red rank players. I’m not good enough for red ranks so I know I disappoint them. I’ve gotten some not so nice messages saying things like how did you ever get to red ranks, learn the game, etc.

yeah it's bad. Those people should know that it just takes time, not skill, to get to red ranks. I would play in an AI/casual/unranked league in a heartbeat too. I hate ranking up.

I also know that there are some serious players out there that would appreciate rewards for their skill. COsmetics, profile pic rewards, etc. Diablo does it...pretty much every other pvp game out there does is...c'mon DBD!

  • Just a little note, since your solo queue (sadly) other red rank players will usually focus the objective leading to slugging and more. However, there is hope that one day you'll go against a low tier killer and have fun. But if you need advice I suggest you watch either Monto or Tru3talenet they give great tips on looping and more.

Tl;Dr (Almost) no one has fun at red ranks.

    >they wouldn't need to tunnel, camp, slug, etc.

Much like genrushing, none of these things exist.
