I miss Event Rewards
I miss having to earn cosmetics. Getting something during an event doesn't mean anything anymore since everyone else can just buy it.
Note I'm not complaining about that as, it's a nice way for the devs to make money and is good for people who play casually and don't have the time to earn stuff.
I just wish there was still something to be earned during the events that acted as a badge of honor for those who actually did play during the event
I wouldn't even mind if it was just a token or something attached to the cosmetic to differentiate it in the menu only, it'd just make me feel better for the time I put in. If people can just buy it, why should I even put in the effort to earn it. It's meaningless.
It's akin to letting people buy a trophy after a sports event they lost. It completely removes the point of the trophy for the team that won.
What are your thoughts on this guys?

Devs just don't want to add any more exclusives and I can get behind that. Players shouldn't be punished for not being able to play during an event.

Hallowed Blight event soon

While I agree that I also share the same fondness for exclusives, it's heavily against what the majority wants now a days. And since the 2018 Lunar event with the Huntress Wolf mask, that was honestly the last glimpse into an exclusive cosmetic for this game.
Q&A: Q. Do I want new exclusive cosmetics that can be earned? A. Yes.
Q&A: Q. Have I asked that in the past? A. Yes.
Q&A: Q. Will it happen ever again? A. Most likely never again sadly...
It's the same thing with Legacy skins, while I'd support heavily for a new type of exclusive skins for the newer generation of Killers that came after, its something that'll never happen because 1. It's to respect the old players that earned those skins during when the Blood-Web was literally horrid to advance in and 2. The demand for exclusive skins doesn't exist anymore, and many people agree now that they don't want to get on during an event to get a skin that isn't obtainable anymore because people don't want to play hyper-actively to get it...
I still hold out hope for a exclusive skin during an event in the future, but that's something that just won't happen anymore unfortunately. That's why I collect event exclusive offerings now, and items for Survivors to stockpile. It's a little hobby I've done since the Hallowed Blight event (I started playing on October 1st 2018, so that's why it wasn't before that) and the highest amount of event exclusive items is my 320+ Winter Party Starter collection. I also collected the Chinese Party starters as they weren't brought back since the first Lunar event, but they kinda... ruined that since they brought them back again for the 2019 one...

Just like the previous one, I also was expecting those to be exclusive, but they weren't... So I can safely say it won't be exclusive again either.
1 -
Aaah
I misunderstood then
Yeah, I miss event rewards that are actually rewarding and not just "Oh lucky you, you got a skin for free"
2 -
While I never got to experience those (If I did i'd have them all because I love exclusive items in video games lmao) I can also agree with that. Since in other games outside this one I do have exclusive items that're not obtainable anymore due to the event either being too hard, or too confusing. So the reward was actually... a reward.
It's not even that though, it's just exclusives in-general give something for people to strive to get and have as their own, rather than say... a skin that looks cool like Wraiths Hallowed Blight skin, but can be purchasable again in the shop... It kind of just removes the point I guess? I guess the point is that it's free during the event, but still, if you missed the event and you want it that badly you can just buy it...
Nothing was really earned there.

Yeah exactly
I have been playing since console launch, so I have as many event skins I could get, I feel pride in knowing that I have them even though I don't use them
I earned them with my own effort, and that's what makes them special
1 -
Exactly, the same goes for Legacy skins for PC users on day one beta launch... They earned them, and they went through the worst blood-web DBD ever had to get them.
So its theirs, and nobody else should have them in the future. You can have NEW exclusives for different reasons, but not the same ones to be obtainable in the future like the 2016 Legacy skins. (By that I mean if they added new Legacy skins """NEVER GONNA HAPPEN""" but if they did, it would be for the next generation of Killers, not the previous.)
That's just an example though, it's just something that you personally feel you earned, or experienced... And at the end of it all, it's yours to keep!

I remember when I found out you could just buy the Hallowed Blight skins
I just let out a sigh, it took away all that made the skins special, that's why I have none now (I didn't have my PS4 at the time)
Even though the skins look so cool I refuse to buy them, I hope that we will be able to unlock older Hallowed Blight skins for free, the Wraith one is amazing

Who knows, maybe the old Blight skins will be a limited time thing when the new Hallowed Blight happens. The new hallowed blight MIGHT NOT EVEN HAPPEN! Who knows...
We'll never truly know if exclusives are dead despite what people say, or what BHVR even says... It's just... unlikely to happen anymore is all. An exclusive item can even be something like an event item or something.
Do you really think they'd re-add the 3rd year anniversary items? I don't... (That's why I stockpiled the cakes lol) Because there will never be a 3rd Year anniversary again. HOPEFULLY THOUGH, they don't just take the old item and re-purpose it for another anniversary, cause than that'd actually make me a bit mad...

I agree completely. Even outside of events, there should be cosmetics or at least variations of current cosmetics that can only be earned by achieving certain in-game goals. Hopefully that's what they're aiming for in the upcoming archives.
1 -
From the leaked cosmetics names it is likely to happen

We'll have to wait and see...

That's why I said I wouldn't mind a badge or even just a change to the item description that only you can see in your menu. I don't mind going away from exclusives, I just don't feel any reason to participate in an event if people can just buy their way to something I spent hours working towards. What if you had a massive tournament, won, and then an exact copy of your trophy was available the next day for anyone to purchase for like 6 bucks.
Without the exclusivity of the event, I feel like I'm wasting my time participating in it. I wouldn't mind if they gave the opportunity to earn them again later on if they repeated the event of course.
That's my thoughts exactly.
That's how I felt as well. I'd done Dwight's outfit and just decided to finish my work on the Huntress hatchet before I stopped playing for the event. It completely ruined it for me.
The variation is the thing I'm really rooting for here. I woudn't even mind if it was a variation in the text on the item. Just something should be different for someone who earned something rather than threw money at the game.

I would love for different colored or retextured cosmetics (Adam's denim jacket in dark grey, Feng's bun in blonde, Meg's bob in black, etc)
Or better yet some more noticeable tweaks to current cosmetics (Kate's straight hair without the shades, her biker top without the jacket, Claudette's sweater without the turtleneck scarf thing, etc)
Hell like you said I'll take anything at this point lol. Just something that we could wear or at least own and know that we busted our ass to earn it

Wasn't the BBQ Kate shirt and Billy hammer the last ones.
And also aren't the rewards earned through the rift/archives going to be exclusive?
1 -
That's gonna be interesting to see
1 -
Yes to both? That second question would be huge info so i'm guessing just the first question?

Not being able to earn something because you couldn't play is not a punishment. It sucks, but it is not a punishment. You didn't lose anything buy not playing. Those who can play would like to "earn" something that is special and not something that you can just buy in a week or so after the event.
2 -
It's also like allowing us to buy Legacy. It defeats the purpose entirely.

So much this.... I dislike the idea of no more exclusives from events... the players need something to work for and earn.... why would I as a player play my arse off and earn something when I can just open my wallet at a later point.... gives no reason to play... "oh but you could earn for free!!!" But why waste time? Because that's all it is, I dont like knowing that someone else can simply buy what I earned... thank heavens players cant buy the donkey jacket or the hound mask.... it drive me bonkers! If the devs ever made those available for purchase!.

As a dev has stated themselves on these forums, missing out on something that everyone else is getting is as much of a punishment as taking something away from someone.

The issue I had with these types of rewards were they disapeared if your save was corrupted. Having the rewards as Steam items would help but console users would still be SOL.
Same with Legacy and old event cosmetics.
1 -
The flip side of that is that earning something that everyone else can just buy isn't that much of a reward. I suppose that the Detroit lions should be able to buy a super bowl because they didn't get a chance to play in one. I am guessing that you think participation trophies are a good thing too.

I've heard horror stories.
I've personally, so far, dodged the lose of progress bullet but you never know when it will happen.

I mean, I don't know if you realise this but in the moonrise event, if you played enough, you got $30 worth of skins FOR FREE. I'm pretty sure the reward in these events is the fact that you can get them for free not just that you get them. Also, don't make snarky comments just because I think that the skins in the game should be available to everyone even if they weren't able to play during the event that they were available in.

One Halloween they added stuff to the bloodweb - torches with orange light that projected a ghost image and also glow in the dark med-kits.
More of that I say.
I doubt many med-kits survived - you could see the survivors a mile off...

There are plenty of skins that you can buy, what is wrong with having a few that can only be earned? I would rather they lengthen an event than just make them available to buy.

Instead of cosmetics, I think something smaller would be better. It would make the people that didn't get to participate in an event (for whatever reason) feel less left out while still giving those who played the event something nice to show.
An idea: Titles. A title under your name (visible in the lobby and after-game scoreboard, maybe in game) to show you've been there. We could use last year's "Summer Barbecue" event as an example: A title for survivors could be "BBQ Master" and for killers we'd have "Meat Tenderizer". Perhaps these titles could also have different colors to indicate a "tier" of them. Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond, the Diamond being a blue-ish color that could even have a glowing effect or an effect related to that event, in this example it could be "burning" for the BBQ event.
Just a tiny example.

I forgot about that event entirely...

Will we ever seen anything exclusive again within DBD outside of the archive? Like an event exclusive cosmetic or what?
I can understand if you can't give details on that exactly...
1 -
Unfortunate... Thanks for answering!

I could definitely get behind something like this.
I've been thinking and I'd be interested in like, a small badge for each event. A pumpkin for blight, a moon for the lunar new year, etc. It could be placed under your name in the menus and on the scoreboard like you mentioned and be something you have to renew when they repeat events

I'd get a headache if I had your job. Trying to keep track of all the things I can and can't say as well as all the potential community wide consequences of a single turn of phrase being misinterpreted

This is a perfect compromise! I personally HATE the idea of exclusive cosmetics, but I understand people who want to earn something unique to show off, so I think something like this would be a great solution! A little “badge of honor” so to speak.
