If i'm trying to learn a killer should I use add-on's?

Since add-on's optimize a killer's power, is it smarter to just use no add-on's so I can get a better knowledge of the killers power?

Nurse doesn't need add-ons and imo you are better off not using them at all as she becomes strongest with muscle memory.

Every other killer play around with some and see what ones you like to use as they won't hurt you as much.

My suggestion would be to use everything, but mainly no add-ons.

There are some exceptions like the plaid flannel for nurse that reveals the range of the blink. If it is the case that you want to play her, wait until the add-on rework to level up her.

That depends. I would not use any addons for Nurse, Billy or Spirit, but definitly for Pig or Trapper (for both +1 Trap for example)

Depends on the killer. Some killers need addons to be even considered mediocre, others can became another killer, messing up your timing (like instasaw billy, or nurse with omega).

If your nurse you don't need em for everyone else to varying degrees

Level up and add the beads for spirit and extra blink for nurse whenever you can.n

Of that add-ons use at your will.

Try to avoid wakizashi, yakuyoke and prayer beads for sure. Then I'd suggest you to avoid every power recovery addon. Everything else is fine (father glasses are kinda of a training wheel, but is ######### after the shadow nerf, and for using mother ring you need to be good in the first place), once you'll understand how to calibrate your power, and that super speed boost lunge after she stops phasing is addon dependant you'll be fine.

Ask it to a spirit main, my opinion on her is a little biased I'd say...

I also don't use add ons. I think it's much easier to figure out the add on's that I want to use later once I know what they can and can't do. To know, do I want increased or decreased whatever it is etc. What would help me or be "fun" etc. Further, not using add on's lets you save on bloodpoints too. Win/Win!

The best practice is to not rely on anything. Like if you can go both add-on'less and perk'less you are pretty skilled at that killer. And frankly should give yourself a good pat on the back cause holy crap that is awesome! :)

Dont use add-ons when starting to learn a killer imo. That way you'll get a general understanding of how they work and how to use them efficiently. Then you could use fun add-ons.

Depend on the killer and the add-on. But first I would recommend to avoid it or use the common add-ons. When you understand more or less how the power works then yes, start using them as they balance the aspect you're lacking or boost them if you are good.

Using add is *a boost to the Killer abilitie's in certain case's, you won't even have the right add-ons you need, so it's best to gain an understanding of how the killer works first some add-ons will also hurt your particular playstyle

yes and no. Yes, using no addons will give a better understanding on how the power works, but no because some killers need their best addons too stand a chance against strong survivors.

Nurse is someone who you really don't need addons for, she works great without addons. I only use the brown range addon on her, and nothing else.

Legion is someone who you really need addons for, since his base power is really weak, and you need strong addons too make him useful.

If you wanna learn the killer? No addons, you cant become reliant on them so you don't even learn the killer. If you wanna play well with a killer? Yes, absolutely.

Depends. On killers like Legion it doesn't matter. Leaving away addons will just make it harder and you won't learn the killer that much more.

On the other hand, killers like Nurse and Billy should always be learned addonless. After you are decent without addons you can try mixing in addons.

The only two killers where learning with add-ons will matter is Nurse and Huntress. For these two you want to be playing as close to base kit as much as possible when you learn them because otherwise you become dependent on their add-ons just to function using their powers. This means no extra blinks/range for Nurse and no wind up/cooldown for Huntress. Once you have a firm grasp of the base power, THEN you start to experiment with add-ons.

Every other killer it doesn't matter because their powers don't require the same degree of mechanical skill/muscle memory. If you play Spirit and start off with speed add-ons, when you take them off it will be a tad jarring but you will still be able to use their power as before, mechanically. You just have to adjust your tactics is all.

You could argue Billy/LF would be affected by this as well but considering there is an action bar that you can see muscle memory is less of an issue. Though I would avoid using insta-saw add-ons while you learn them, if only so that you don't feel like you have to use them to do well.

I'd also say you want to avoid Scratched Mirror/Vanity Mirror on Myers only because they fundamentally change the way you play the killer. It's like an alternate version of the character instead of a straight buff to some aspect of his power.

I always play at least once without add-ons.

Just to get a feel of the character.

After that, if I'm confident I got the character, everything is free game (but I do tend to use the lower rarity itens first... 🤷‍♂️)

honestly, that depends on the killer you wanna play.

some are add on dependend, some are not.

if you wanna learn billy for example, dont run them, his power is already viable enough without them.

if you wanna learn, lets say clown, i'd recommend you to at least run add ons that reduce the recharge time, increase your movementspeed while recharging or add more bottles to it. you basically still only have the base power, though you can use it more often, which helps tremendously if you are new to the killer and cant use the power efficiently quite yet.

By the time.you reach levels where you are unlocking "OP" add-ons on spirit and nurse, you will be ready for them.

Don't let forum advice dissuade you from using tools the game gives you.

YouTube and twitch can help you maximize builds using the best add-ons for each killer, but always use what's available. It's the only way you learn and can actually feel the difference vs when you run without (like the first 10-20 levels)

You should play Spirit add-onless first and then see what add-ons would you like on her. Maybe you want more speed and duration or just less charge time and power recovery. But avoid her purple and red add-ons while you learn her.

On nurse? No. On every other killer? Yes.

When starting out a new killer, just use the bevy of brown/yellow addons you get from leveling them, since they're pretty much endless as you get tons of them. Theres no reason not to run them, even whilst learning, cuz there'll almost never be a time where you aint running addons

And even still, most of the addons are minor benefits, and by the time you can use the purple/iridescent ones, you'll have a decent grip on your killer.

Heck, when i started with spirit or nurse i used all sorts of addons, just to try them out. Theres very little downside

i have often thought about this. i don't take any with me until i have got used to using killer for a bit. then after a while i will start using them. otherwise i feel like iv'e wasted them. use them once you know what you are doing.

Personally, when I want to learn a new killer, I don't use addons, perks or offerings. I find I learn faster with the bare bones package. Once I get the hang of it I'll start adding points and getting addons, perks, etc.

That is my style though. It works for me, but you have to go with what works for you.

Use add ons, you won't use spirit without them anyway plus you'll have plenty of them

Not using add ons gives you a better understanding of killers powers that rely on muscle memory, for instance Huntress and Nurse. Though on other killers it doesnt really do much imo

    MegaWaffle Member Posts: 4,172

    No.

1: It will allow you to get a feel for the baseline power.

2: You will not be wasting add-ons meaning you won't feel stressed if you lose horribly.

It really depends on the killer, Nurse you will get better if you don't use add-ons and no extra blinks, because it would teach you to mess up. Trapper on the other hand almost need the bags for extra traps.

I would advise to play the killer at first raw, without any add-ons, then, after a few games test some add-ons and see for yourself what accomplishes your playstyle.

Just be careful with add-ons that totally alters the killer, like jump scare Myers with Scratched Mirror or Body Blocker Hag etc. Those can be fun, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone who wants to learn a killer.

I main killer and it really depends on the killer and how well you want to know the killers base power i know ghostfaces base power really well but think the bone clapper add on is almost a necessity for the wraith
