What We Need to Keep in Mind About Nurse

As most of you are aware, Nurse is getting a nerf. This is nothing new, and it's something that a lot of people have been asking for for a while. Personally, I do agree that it's a good thing. I think that the current changes the devs have cooked up are really interesting and creative (The dev log for these changes can be found [here].). With that being said, I do have a few problems with the changes. But before I get into them, I want to explain WHY I'm speaking up about them, and what I think we all should keep in mind for the upcoming PTB tomorrow.

As of right now, Nurse is the best killer in the game. She's effectively a flying wall of hitboxes that can travel through walls. But even though she's so good, she's been crafted in such a way that there is no possible way you can pick her up on day one and expect to be good with her. Nurse is probably the hardest killer in the game to learn how to play (Maybe beaten by Huntress, but that's up for debate, and also not the point I'm trying to make.), but the effort that you put into learning her comes with the reward of having unstoppable power. But even with this in mind, there really aren't a lot of good Nurse players out there. Of course, everyone's come along a good handful, but they're pretty few and far between.

I bring this up because Nurse deserves to stay in this position. Maybe not with unstoppable force, after all, no element of the game should be completely uncounterable. But Nurse is an immensely difficult killer to learn, and you need a lot of experience under your belt with other killers before you can touch her.

Keep this in mind when we nerf Nurse. Yes, we're trying to balance her out, but while we do that, there are a few aspects of her toolkit that absolutely need to stay in. She needs to:

  • Have a high skill ceiling.
  • Be difficult to learn.
  • Be fun to counter (If the survivor has an upper hand over the killer).
  • Fun to play.

To this day, Nurse is one of my favorite killers in the game, even if she is strong. The fact that you need to work hard to get good at her has always astonished me, and I hope we can preserve that.

TL;DR: Keep Nurse as the strongest killer in the game, but not by as much as right now.

With that being said, here are those problems I have with some of the addon changes as of right now. Take these all with a grain of salt, as this is all just theory. They may be much better than I thought, but we won't be able to tell until the PTB.

  • Bad Man Keepsake: As much as I love that the Nurse perks are being worked into her addons, this one doesn't make much sense. Nurse depends on addons that help her find survivors (And addons that help in chase are certainly welcome), but not survivors that have already been in a chase with her. Nurse, in my eyes, should be expected to finish the chases she starts. This addon doesn't help with that.
  • Spasmodic Breath: I really love this addon, because I think it's really interesting and a good way to ######### with survivors' heads, but I don't see it having much utility. Forcing Nurse to turn into a basic M1 Killer with no power isn't helpful, it's more of a hindrance. Bump the speed up to 4.8 (or 5.0 if you're a maniac) and we're good to go.
  • "Bad Man's" Last Breath: Being undetectable might be helpful in certain niche situations, but not to the point where it's worthy of being a Very Rare. Maybe increase the undetectable duration?
  • Matchbox: Same problem that I have with Spasmodic Breath. This isn't really helpful for the Nurse, and the tradeoff makes it more of a hindrance. I don't see any point in taking away a blink just to be 0.2 m/s faster than a survivor, so don't take away the blink. Just increase the speed, and everything's good.

Let me know what you think. I might be a madman, but this is just what I think. I'll be responding to your comments as they come along. Please keep it civil. Goodnight, and see you all in the PTB!

Spasmodic Breath is a great on paper he increase variety for gameplay (Nurse PoV at least) but on survivor side it's just the run in circles that keep happening(So no variety). We don't want another loopable killer, we want more skilled gameplay then just turning in circle.

Nurse should remain the elitist of killer until another one come by. Nurse deserve to be the best due to time to master her she will be even harder now. I'm a console player so trust me the rare nurse we see will cease to exist. They won't bother learning her.

I totally agree nurse should stay a threat but nurse should be equal to a optimal SwF but the rest if the nurse is great you should destroy the potatoes and experimented survivors. I mean it's how he works for all game , noobs are getting destroy by pro players.
