from what i remember, you get extra bloodpoints from the special gens, but if you use the offering you get even more bloodpoints. at least by the wording of the offering

It certainly wouldn't help with it, the goal is always to do generators and escape. Though if you did decide to do only generators, you wouldn't be making any progress on your Archives challenges, and so you wouldn't actually get anything from the event.
