Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Rank means nothing

Ok rank means absolutely nothing. Due to the rubbish matchmaking system I had the pleasure of going against 2 rank 2 killers and a rank 1 killer as a survivor. All in a row and I looped the hell outta them at rank 13.

On a different not I have also played as a rank 11 killer against a rank 2, 2, 3 and 5 survivor. I slaughtered them all easy as .

Rank means less the longer it goes. It really needs some serious improvements. That's why at the moment it's probably a good thing ranks resets every month.

Rank really just seems like a measurement on how long and often you played the game within a month.

Are you playing with a higher ranked friend? If so, that is working as intended. The details of the matchmaking system can be found here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/92295/

If you notice something outside of those rules, please grab a screenshot of the ranks, write down roughly when it happened and fill out a bug report. We'll take a look and see what's going on. It shouldn't happen, but if there are edge cases out there, we're going to see if we can fix them.

(Disregard this if you're on the PTB: The game isn't nearly as picky over there, it'll give you whoever it can get.)

Rank doesn't mean too much anyways, since you can have a 3000 hour player playing at rank 15 and a 100 hour player playing at rank 1.

You get seasoned and new players at all levels.

Not hard to climb rank where that exists.

Of course not. There has never not been a time in DBD where people have complained about matchmaking ranks for any other reason more than that it allows them to blame something else when they lose. Anything to avoid conceding that they didn't play well.

The only time rank might be a problem is when newbies with no perks go against a full-kitted opposition, but that can happen even if ranks are exactly the same.

I don't even know why rank exists.

It would be easier to just put everyone except beginners in the same pool.

Best way to do it is have a player's first 25 matches pair them with other's who are still on their first 25.

Ranks mean much. But if you understood the game you are at red ranks, that's a problem. I think we might need ten more ranks.

To say rank means nothing is just factually not true. Sure there are potatoes here and there, but on average a full group of rank 1s is going to play vastly better than a bunch of rank 15s. Now if what you mean to say is that the ranking system is heavily flawed, then sure, we can agree on that. Rank definitely does mean something though.

I'm sure it's been explained, but why can't ranks increase with skill, and not reset? Then matches could be maid in a top down style. So if you are a high real player, the game would search for others of the appropriate rank and slowly broaden until it found others also looking for a game.

Yes, maybe skill levels wouldn't match up all the time, but how is that different then what we have now?

An entire player base being in one of 20 ranks, and matches found around 4 or 5 either way means you could be matched with almost half the player base (rank wise)

Yet, people get pissed off about losing it.

The changes to matchmaking regarding SWF was an excellent move, but it isn't enough.

People purposefully derank and let themselves die/stand in a corner so they can get easier games/games that are actually fun/bully new players. I would love to see a ranking system that actually means something and won't just be a tool you have to work around so you can get to chill games again.

Rank has some meaning just not as much as in most games. I think it is to make everybody feel good honestly so every potato can get r1 and think they are good.
