Just A Lil Realization About Wraith...

When it's his turn to be on the Archives, we might finally get to know why the ######### he uses the Wailing Bell.

The Killers' Powers usually have something to do with them themselves.

I mean, Entity for example gifts Carter's Spark to Herman Carter, but it's because it knows he would use it well given his past.

Wraith's lore is moreso explaining how he got his main weapon.

But the bell? Nah man, we need more information on that!

iirc, the bell was a gift from the entity. might be wrong though.

Yeah, that's something that never made sense. Trapper trapped people in a mine, so bear traps make sense. Hillbilly and Leatherface used chainsaw, so their abilities make sense. Spirit is an onryo. Clown's power fits his lore so well. Plague is literally infected with a plague. Legion is a group of stab-happy teenagers.

But Wraith. He's a former car crusher who violently murdered his boss to avenge all the people in the cars he was crushing. And he gets... a bell with invisibility powers. I think they were drunk when they decided on his power.

Who knows? Maybe the cloak is supposed to be symbolism for his guilt for unknowingly killing all those people?

He used the bell as a cloak and rings it to show himself, to maybe he felt guilt and tries to cover it and hide it, falling into murder as his horrible boss did, he did what he did with good intent but murder is murder and it chews at him, his actions probably resemble the bell ringing as it still comes to his mind what he did, it rings to him, it has most likely metaphorical meaning.

Seeing all those bodies and finding out you're the cause of those murders would really put a number on him and to save himself he masks it.

The Wraith writeup suggests that his design is based on one of the classic designs of the Grim Reaper: Tall, lanky, skeletal, carrying a tool of harvest and a bell. His original name was Banshee, which would also tie into the tolling of a bell if you go far back enough into RL lore.

Phil sees himself as a personification of death, and The Entity sees no reason to disagree.

A fun lil theory, but i'm excited to see what they come up with. 😊

Personally, I'd like it to be addressed that he's the only character with access to the Spirit World who hasn't died. Perhaps the bell is related.

    Nurse uses Spirit World, no?

She enters it for only a short while, but she does enter it.

Sally was insane and in a car crash. Considering the bag on her head, I don't think her victims are the only ones who croaked. Blinking is also both supposedly not fully entering the Spirit World (subject to clarification of the phrase "As she doesn't entirely enter it...") and extremely painful.

Perhaps the Wailing Bell is an artefact that keeps Phillybuns safe from the harmful aspects of physically entering a plane of soulrending energy.

EDIT: I also think the differences between the Ethereal and Spirit worlds should probably be clarified. Bugs me in RPGs, bugs me in video games, but that's all something for another discussion.

This is why i'd like a Mori for him that involves forcing the Survivor into the Spirit World.

If it hurts for practically everyone but Philip, then surely (trying) to force the not-protected Survivors into it would surely lead to a kill after some screaming.

I'd appreciate that Mori much more than the "slightly altered Trapper hack'n'slash" we currently have.

Anyway, thank you for your perspective on this. 👍️

That bell always confused me but I'm more interested in his outfits and why he's so bestial. In his lore he's just some guy who got pissed he was murdering people unawares and now he is this enraged psychopath who's outfits revolve around being non-human? It has always struck me as odd so I am excited as well.

Yeah, I'd love to see what they can come up with to justify the Wraith, seeing as how literally not a single aspect of him makes sense right now.

Backstory: Nigerian immigrant who was hired to work in a scrapyard. Realizes he's working with shady people, but minds his business. Later discovers he's been used to murder people, and goes crazy and pulls his boss's head+spine out Mortal Kombat style and disappears.

In game:He has a scarecrow theme going on, but also mixed with... a tree? Lost his pants and now uses bandages to cover his legs. Despite apparently feeling guilty over hurting people unknowingly, he now chases and murders innocent survivors. Oh, and he has a magic bell that turns him invisible. Basically, he's the worst character ever. No motivation for anything he does or has.

Also, his addons. Do they realize that immigrants from Nigeria are not bushmen? His addons all talk about tribal symbols... He's a modern immigrant. Those cars are not that old.

The bell is a metaphor for his soft soul and desire not to kill
