Map Pressure

So... I just need to ask you killers a question.

In more than one thread I’ve seen killers ranting about gen times and people telling them to “apply more map pressure”.

Now, without going into the gen time topic, and from my thousandS of hours in the red ranks as killer, I would like to ask you: what is map pressure?

Because, honestly, I don’t see it.

Most survivors won’t leave the gens literally until you hit them or are about to. They don’t care if you are near or patrolling, they won’t leave the gens unless you make them. But if you make them, and commit to it, you’re not applying map pressure because the other three will do gens.

Really in my eyes it’s that simple. Map pressure is a myth. Change my mind.

I mean, I'd change your mind but you arn't wrong. I've seen survivors wait till the last moment to let go of a gen, cause they can. They know if they let go then you can't grab them and the chase starts. You don't have time to kick the gen or they get away. Even if you kick it they can just boop the gen with a finger and stop the regressing.

Add to this that many Killers have a hard time getting around the maps, and the maps that have poor design and you might as well hang it up. I've yet to see a survivor let go of a gen just cause my TR got close to them.

The "apply more map pressure" argument is a fallacy. It's that simple. It's an excuse used to keep something they like as a valid thing. Both sides of the community, and humans in general for that matter, use that kind of argument to keep things in a state that they benifit from. If I could just Slather map pressure all over then I would. But I can't be in 4 places at once. I can't effect 4 survivors at once, even with a higher tier Killer.

    So, I agree with you.

I’ve found the only real way to apply pressure is ending chases quickly, hooking people, wounding as many as possible, taking advantage of altruism.

This is why Pop goes the weasel is such a good perk, you can actually take progress away from the survivors instead of just making them achieve victory slower.

Saying “just apply map pressure LMAO” is unhelpful reductionism.

Yes, both sides seem to do this. Though, a Killer one escapes me at the moment. (yeah i got nothing. I really did think for a bit there)

In the end, acting like a problem isn't a problem, does not solve the problem.
