Hex totem idea, to be more interactive
At the beginning of the game the killer will have their hex perks inactive until the killer looks at one of their totems from a 20m distance, this will set fire to the candles below activating that hex perk so the killer can decide where it goes and when they need it in the game. You can set keys to specific perk slots so you can choose which hex you want activated. This let's killers have their hex totems to be more interactive and have it not be destroyed by the survivors immediately, also some new strategy with perks like hex the third seal where you want to get some quick hooks in at the beginning of the game, after 3 gens go by you can activate the totem and start slugging. This also let's survivors have more of an objective because they could go around and watch the killer to see where he or she looks and go to those areas, as well as they have more incentive to cleanse totems so the killer cannot get it so there is some counter play to it. Killers can see totems auras within a 20m range and NOED can only be placed when all gens are done

I think the dev's have stated this would be kind of annoying to implement and tedious to do as a killer with how little time you already have to kill people. They have said they would rather adjust totem spots.

I actually like this idea. But I believe that we also shouldn't know which one is dh,ruin, third seal ECT.
And what about noed and haunted grounds?

With the limited buttons, this would not work very well on console

Manually placing hexes has two major problems:
- It wastes time. You need to set up the perk to get its effect, and then you aren't chasing survivors.
- It reveals where the totems are. Survivors could locate where killers are early into the game and find out where they're placing totems. This problem is made worse with perks like Object of Obsession, as well.
I tend to play like I don't have any Hexes early on. If they find it, they find it. Later in the game, if I know they've found it, I either decide to let it go to maintain pressure or guard it if they seem to be around it constantly.

Or they could nerf gen speeds or give survivor a second objective

NOED can be placed on totems after the last gen is powered and haunted grounds could be automatically placed? But maybe near the killer when they spawn

Actually no it would work on console because there are plenty of buttons that are not in use, I know this cuz I play console

It doesn't really waste too much time as you just need to look in the direction of the totem from a 20 m range through any kind of wall to place, and there is no visual cue for survivors to look at so they will have to guess

Some killers are getting higher than an average of 70% kill rate per games. If gens are made to take longer or a second objective is added they'd have to balance by nerfing all killers across the board... The only thing I can think is to have gens progress faster the fewer that remain - this was its not overly daunting when a survivor dies as you'd have ~2 gens done by then. But I dont know how that would work with the DCing epidemic...

I think the killers should carry the lit totems with them and if they get stunned or blinded they lose it.

Great point, but to play Devil's Advocate:
What if you was given the ability to look at totems from a distance and use a hotkey to light the totem from a safe distance?

I literally said this 2 times now but you worded it differently
0 -
Yeah 70% in the lower ranks, all gens can pop in under 3 minutes if the survivors know what they are doing

My apologies, I don't read every comment in the thread, just major comments like moderator responses, trusted member responses, original post, and a few of the top comments. π
Anyways, looks like we have the same idea!

Alright that's fine, I said it in the original post

I clicked on the "Mod" tag and @drimmalor made it look like you said killers should be able to manually light totems.
Therefore, I responded to drimmalor's comment saying, "why make lighting totems a close range action?". Then, I was confused because you already said that in your original post. I don't know why drimmalor implied you wanted lighting totems a close ranged action, maybe drimmalor didn't have a lot of time and skimmed through your post. π

Oh okay no problem

20 meters still gives the general area of the totem. If it could be done across the map, then that problem would be solved. Although, that itself creates problems of potentially using Hex totems more as a tracking perk to see when and where dull totems are cleansed.

MORE WORK FOR THE KILLER????
Thumb down.

Awesome, and thank you so much for clarifying things! π
You bring up a great point through, if you see a dull totem aura disappear from your screen β that means a survivor just cleansed it and you now know someone is there.
I feel like to completely solve the issue with Hex Perk getting cleansed due to bad totem positioning, they should only be lit when their effects are first active.
- Before Devour Hope reaches two tokens, you won't be able to find a Hex Totem to deactivate the perk. Once Devour Hope hits two tokens, it's going to act like NOED by picking a random dull totem to become active on.
Through, most people argue this can be too good.

For me I would make totems to provide a small buff to the killer:
Small Haste
Slightly more Lunge Range
Slightly increase Vault Speed
Miss recovery
Slightly increase Break speed
Any Hex Perk will be placed randomly on any totem, the totem effects will still apply if the Hex Perk replaces it.
This way Totems are engaging but still optional to do, it kinda helps early and itβs also satisfying to break a totem to make a killer weaker.

It's barely any work, you just look at a totem from a far distance and press a button. Also it would heavily benefit the killer because you get to choose when you want your perk to activate and where you want to hide it, picking points where you either are going to be able to pressure a lot would be a good spot or in a spot where survivors will not check at all. Yes it takes 2 seconds to look at but the benefits of those two seconds wasted would be massive
