Fun Memento Mori Changes

Greetings!

This may be long enough to include a TLDR. I'll leave the TLDR at the bottom.

I have a few ideas concerning our beloved Memento Mori. I think these changes have the potential to bring more joy and satisfaction into Dead by Daylight. It is my hope that these changes could combat some of the negative association that comes with using a Memento Mori. Overall, I think these changes will be better received when combined together. I'll explain why below. Without further ado, here's a combined list of the changes I'd like to see for the Memento Mori:

1] Make the Cypress Memento Mori (Kill the last Survivor) a standard feature in Dead by Daylight (baseline).

2] Change the Ivory Memento Mori (Kill one Survivor) into an Ultra Rare Offering (similar to the Ebony Memento Mori).

2] Change the Ivory Memento Mori (Kill one Survivor) from a Rare Offering into a Very Rare Offering. (Memento Mori are often compared to Keys. This change would make the Ivory Memento Mori the same rarity and cost as a Dull Key).

3] Remove/Discontinue the Ebony Memento Mori (Kill Everyone) and the Cypress Memento Mori (Kill the last Survivor). This would be a similar change to the removal of Killer Splinters. The Cypress Memento Mori would simply become redundant/obsolete if the first change is made.

3] Change the Ebony Memento Mori.

Before: "Grants the ability to Kill all Survivors who have been hooked by your hand during the next trial."

After: "Grants the ability to Kill two survivors who have been hooked by your hand during the next trial."

If you're already formulating your response, I hope you'll pause a moment and allow me to explain further before making your final decision.

Concerning the first change, I'd like to start by saying that I love the Memento Mori Kills. I wish we could see them more frequently (in every Trial). Allowing the Killer to always perform a Memento Mori Kill on the last Survivor would certainly increase how often we're able to witness them. Also, I think allowing a last Survivor Memento Mori Kill could make spectating more fun for everyone. Instead of watching the last Survivor get sacrificed (potentially the same way we were), we could stick around and watch a beautiful Memento Mori Kill (if the last Survivor doesn't Escape.) This change could allow Killers to bring other Trial Offerings, but still have a chance to experience their Memento Mori Kill.

Concerning the second change, I've noticed that Keys and Memento Mori are often compared. Key and Memento Mori rarities/costs are not equal. Keys are Rare, Very Rare, and Ultra Rare. Rare Keys do nothing without add-ons. Memento Mori are Uncommon, Rare, and Ultra Rare. Changing the rarity of the Ivory Memento Mori from Rare to Ultra Very Rare would reduce how often it appears in the Bloodweb and make it the same rarity/cost as a Dull Key (Very Rare/6000BP). If the Killer chooses to bring an Ivory Memento Mori, they could Kill one Survivor prematurely and also have the potential to perform another Kill on the last Survivor (due to the first change).

Concerning the final change, it is my belief that most of the negative feedback surrounding the Memento Mori is related to Survivors feeling their Trial has been ended prematurely. In an effort to combat these negative experiences, I suggested that the Ebony Memento Mori be removed/discontinued changed. I believe there would be less of an overall negative experience if only two (instead of all) Survivors could fall victim to an Ebony Memento Mori Kill per Trial.

If you made it all the way through this post, I thank you for your time. I truly believe these changes could make Dead by Daylight more satisfying and more fun for everyone. I think that pretty much sums it up. Cheers!

TLDR; In my opinion, Memento Mori Kills are not very common. When we do see them, they are typically performed on every Survivor in the Trial (via an Ebony Memento Mori). Let's meet in the middle... Let's make Memento Mori Kills extremely common, but limit how many can be performed in a single Trial.

I realized this post was longer than most. So, I've added a TLDR for easier/faster viewing.

Moris? Not common? You must never play Claudette?

@OtakuBurrito I wouldn't say I never play Claudette, but I don't play her often. If I do get the urge to play her, I do have Claudette at level 50. Certain Survivors are targeted for Memento Mori Kills above all others?

On one hand, I'm perfectly fine with this.

On the other hand, I want killers to be able to mori everyone. But devour hope exists, so 🤷‍♂️

@List_of_concerns I get mori'd so often unironically that I have a folder of mori screenshots. Basically if it isn't Myers and Ghostface, I get mori'd because "fucc Blendette. They must always die first"

@Weck I'm glad your first reaction is extremely positive. Hex: Devour Hope is a viable option to have the ability to Memento Mori Kill everyone. Earning the required Tokens for Hex: Devour Hope is more rewarding and fair than it is to bring a Memento Mori Offering.

I kinda wish Moris would be used more. They're so much more entertaining than the usual hook and dead. I'd be happy with a change like this overall.

@OtakuBurrito You must have quite the collection of screenshots. I wish you didn't get killed first just because you play as Claudette. Claud deserves better than that. She's been out there in the Fog for quite some time now.

I agree with part 1. Making the Cypress Memento Mori kill base kit would shortened games that are already over and reward killers. Would be a good change.

But I have to disagree with the the other suggestions. It would work, but I think it's kinda a waste of potential and I would rather see Moris reworked in a fun way than just basicly removed/nerfed. And I think there is a lot potential considering that there is only one Killer offering per game, which should allow it to even change the rules of the game? Why not make the Ebony Memento Mori disable sacrifice and keep each survivor in hook state 1, but give the killer tokens foreach hook state, which grand him kills at one point e.g.?

That's something I would rather see.

Moris and keys are such iffy topics e.o

Personally I love the idea of making the yellow a part of basekit. I prefer being moried over hook n dead, but I also don't want the other two moris removed or nerfed or both. Changed, yes, but I don't know if I want to see them just gone. However, it'd be necessary to remove them if the yellow became base kit, because of the valid point you bring up --no one likes their match ending early. I love Devour Hope, but DH is a totem perk and is as totem perks should be; very high risk, high reward.

Perhaps make it so the green Mori requires two hook stages and the ebony requires every survivor to be hooked at least once before anyone can get mori'ed.

    Personally, I liked the podcast with OhTofu, Otz, Ralph, and Pug, when they covered keys and Moris for like 5 minutes -- one thing sticking out;

Don't make changes to one side: balance/nerf/buff without doing the same to the other side: balance/nerf/buff.

Great post though! Well thought it <3

honestly devour hope is more stressful than fun. I wish it would be blocked off or unlit until you get 1-2 stacks, so you'd at least have a chance and it wouldn't get cleansed immediately.

    @Freudentrauma

I'm pleased that you agree with the first change. I'm aware the other changes may seem like a nerf, but I'd be willing to make that sacrifice if it meant that we could witness the Memento Mori Kills more often. I tried to establish a middle ground or a series of changes that wouldn't frustrate either role.

Also, I'm not sure if I'm interpreting your suggestion correctly. Are you suggesting that the Ebony Memento Mori could function similar to Hex: Devour Hope?

Yes similar. The idea would be to make it a complete game changer. Each hook or hook state gives the Mori a token, after x Tokens killer can mori one survivor, after gaining Y Tokens they can kill the second and after X, the last two could be killed. Basicly an offering which gives killers a linear progression instead one per survivor.

Moris and Keys do seem very controversial.

I don't want to see all of the Memento Moris removed either. I've considered a few new changes. Your note and/or quote from the Podcast has made me reconsider a few things. I'll be sure to edit this post soon.

I can't change the fact that nobody likes having their Trial ended prematurely.

    Thanks for the suggestions! 😁
