Best way to counter NOED?
Hello everyone!
With the change of Hex: Ruin I think we can all agree that the increased use of NOED is undeniable.
I was just wondering what you think is the best way to counter this? Do you break every totem you see and hope all five have been taken by your teammates (assuming you're playing solo), or do you memorize their location and go back and check on them once the last generator is one and NOED has been announced?
I'm wondering because I often find myself in a situation where NOED has been triggered but I can't find where the corresponding totem is placed.
What are your thoughts on this?

I normally run Small Game and go Totem hunting. It normally never works because my teams never seem to do gens OR totems so it makes it hard but that is normally what I try and do. =)
You are right though NOED has seen a huge rise in use. The sad part is survivors still have not learned to cleanse dull totems in most the games I played.

I am always trying to destroy every totem I see, also because of reason that killers' life is hard enough and I want to give them a little more time to play.

I'm considering small game as well, or maybe Detective's Hunch... still have to decide which perks I should change for those though xD
I know, it's rather frustrating. It's good points still, even if the killer doesn't run NOED.

I like Small Game over the Detective Hunch because you do not need to finish a gen to make it work. You just walk around and it goes off and you know you are looking at a trap or totem. Yes you have to then find it but you know you are practically sitting on it then anyway. lol
With DH you have to finish a gen and then go looking but you do see the aura for a bit BUT still SG to me seems better because it is always active minus the like 15 second CD.

I always make sure to do the ones by the exit gates so killer cant camp the doors noed and a hook at same time.
Then do the harder to find ones that I come across. I may leave a few easy to get to ones alone.
For instance if you do 4 totems and noed pops you have to find that impossible totem that no one saw all game.
If you leave say 2 easy one. And that impossiple one. Well now you have 66% chance on knowing exactly where noed is.

To find totems, use detectives hunch.
If you want a real incentive to cleanse totems I would highly recommend running Inner Strenght

I prefer Detective's hunch over small game, Complete a gen and it shows you usually multiple totems within like 60+ meters give or take or so. If you happen to have a map too, the totems get added to it.

Heck bones offer a nice blood point reward as well. 1000 for a dull one, 1500 for one that is active. So doing bones is well worth it just for the blood points.

Honestly, cleansing the totems you see usually ends up hurting you in the end. It's best to cleanse all of them or just not touch them at all and cleansing all of them by yourself can cost you the match (especially if you aren't using perks to find them faster).
I only cleanse the ones I see if my teammates actually care about cleansing them (and they usually don't), if not I just cleanse the well hidden totems if I come across any and leave the rest.

I like detectives haunch paired with inner strength.
I normally find one instantly for inner strength and then seeing the totems close by after a gen pops gives me info so I don't have to look as much.
Small game is good also but versus certain killers it also pulls up traps etc.

I prefer Detectives Hunch when I use Inner Strength, because it shows me directly where totems are and doesn't waste so much time to "scan" for totems. I normally try to find an easy first totem near me or my first gen if it is in sight, to activate Inner Strength, and then always "one gen, one totem" to get to 0 totems until endgame and have enough "resources" left to activate Inner Strength.
Especially on newer maps (I have NO freakin idea on new Lery's and Saloon where the totem spots are) I like Hunch to learn totem spots. Once you are familiar with them, Small Game might work better.

Run Small Game and start paying attention to where totems are. Once you start seeing the patterns on where they are usually, you can take off Small Game and run another perk you like to use. Even though totems are random, they do have a pattern on where they spawn. If there is still NOED? Welp, get your butt in gear to the exit gates and learn how to hide.

Cleanse one totem, keep in mind where the rest are. When the last gen pops, go looking for totems while someone gets the exit gates. If its lit, break it.
NoED only really sucks when one of two things happen:
#1. Your team rushes the gens so fast you don't have time to find all 5 totems, even though you didn't work on a single generator.
#2. Killer camps someone on the hook, or uses a mori.

Run Detective's Hunch and go totem hunting after each gen. The range on that perk is massive, and it will show you a ton of totem spots as well as give you the other information that the perk gives you.

Can I ask why Detectives Hunch instead of Small game?
I just ask because yes DH shows aura's but after a gen is done. Small Game yes does not show the aura but I mean when it goes off you know in the very least you are like a arms length from a trap or totem, plus the CD on SG is so fast it can be used fast.
I mean yes both work but SG just seems quicker. I can see how DH is good thought because you have to do gens anyway might as well do a gen then look around for a Totem. =)

The only reason I pick Small Game is because I got use to using it when Hex Ruin was in it's old state and it would take to long to finish a gen. Small Game would let me run through and find totems and hope to break Hex fast. =)

I use small game because not only does it work for totems but it has helped me in a pinch when I run and am like OOOOOH it's trapper or ooooh it's the hag. lol

Small game is more effective to find totems but DH is more reliable and gives you some extra information (chests, hooks), small game lets you locate only one totem at a time and DH from 1-3, depending on which map and perk tier you are playing with.

Just give to solo survivor and killer a totem-numeric counter (like the gen-counter)

DH seems useful but that extra info is not always needed. I mean I can see the hooks and they scare me. lol The boxes are always in the same places, basement or near a gen. If you want to see Chest you could use Plunderer's Instinct and that would even give you a better item.
I am certainly not saying you are wrong or I am right just saying why I don't use DH BUT I will give it a try today and see how much I like it. =)

There's a couple ways to go about it.
The best way I would say is Detective's Hunch with a Map and a Crystal Bead. You see the auras of all totems and they get added to your map. When you read the map, other survivors see their auras too. This is the most efficient way to get the totems since the other survivors are going to see where they are and cleanse them as well, but this is also the most expensive way since it requires an item and a very rare add-on to do.
Detective's Hunch on its own is also pretty decent. You see totems as you do gens, so it's a good way to do the main objective (generators) while also getting rid of totems in between.
And of course, there's Small Game. Against most killers, it'll only go off for totems, making them easy to pinpoint. It should be easy enough to do a quick lap around the map scanning for totems.
If you really don't want to use a perk, you can toss on a Map with a Red Twine and a Stamp to find totems that way.

Depending on the stage of the game... Do totems, especially ones NEAR the doors. If gates are powered, simply gtfo. The majority of 4ks I see are already caused by Survivors smashing themselves against a killer who has one on a hook at the end. An easy 3 escape rapidly turned into a 4k. This is way more likely if the killer is running noed. As much as people like to say killers just want a 4k every game, mostly I see Survivors committing suicide because they can't bear to let one die at the end.
So yeah, hunt totems. If you haven't gotten totems or know noed is in play with no clue where it is, just walk out the door.

Well both are good, but i just prefer Detective's hunch, Especially if Devour hope or huntress hex is in play, then it can be dealt with swiftly. Also find it helps with indoor maps like Game, with totems appearing on bottom and upper floor.

I used to use small game but Inwanted other perks instead so most of the time I just take a green map, green increase range, yellow track killer belongings.
If I do a rainbow map I stick on the purple thing that shows the ap aura to everyone and increased range of the map.
Do a lap of the map early on in the game and then start showing the aura to others so they can do the ones near them. When down to one gen, have another look, check they're all gone and that's it.

Does DH really help more with Devour Hope? I only ask because I have not tried it yet. I am just curious why this would work better then SG when it comes to active totems. I could hunt around the map and probably find the active totem while my team did gens.
I am really sorry not trying to argue at all but just trying to learn and I do actually take what people say and try it. =) We all have our ways. =)

Actually there is one survivor perk built for countering NOED. And his name IS JOHN CENA. jk. The Cheryl Mason perk called Sould Guard. It is perfect as the killer seeks to knock down all survivors so no one escapes. It even gives you endurance for 8 seconds!!
