What is the official excuse?
The matchmaking is a horror show in itself. There is no good reason for it, so what is the excuse?

Glad it was a disconnect

Just face camping people now.

Post number 323442132 about matchmaking.
They're working on it™.
4 -
There is no excuse. Everyone, including the devs, knows that there are bugs in the matchmaking system at the moment, but they have a replacement in active development.
8 -
So it can't be modified with some variables? The entire system has to be tossed out... Hard to believe.
2 -
Lack of killers at high ranks mean that high rank survivors will face lower ranked killers.
1 -
High rank survivors should be forced to wait on a match, indefinitely, not destroy the game for every killer that isn't highly ranked.
3 -
For people who don't do a lot of programming, the complicated process that bug fixing can be is sometimes hard to believe, yes. It's rarely a matter of just modifying a few variables.
But no, they're not overhauling the system because it's bugged. They're overhauling the system because its design was flawed to begin with and a new matchmaking system is the best way to ensure a more positive gameplay experience in the long run.
8 -
And that new system is expected to roll out when? Playing 4 matches a day with 3/4 are against red ranks isn't fun, it is rage inducing.
3 -
Honestly, most of the time it's because people are swfing (survive with friends) with their low rank friends, and the solo queue killer gets the short end of the stick.
This is really unfair, honestly.
If a group of survivor invites their friend, who's a low rank, into their lobby, they should always get high rank killers. Period. The low rank killer did NOT ask for a swf that would kick their ass, it wasn't their decision. They have no choice but to go against them because there is no way to see if they are high ranks or not. For some reason, people who swf with their low ranks almost always get low rank killers as well, which they end up ruining the game for a lot because a lot of them teabag like *ssholes, but that last part obviously isn't a game problem.
On top of that, sometimes there are actual high ranks for no reason at all. Not even a swf. Also don't know why that's a thing either LOL.
Here's an example:
A new killer should be able to play against people on their level, and, as they get better, slowly get matched with people that are higher ranks. This, above, should not be happening-
4 -
I know they're fixing it, but I just have trouble playing killer for this exact reason.
2 -
Also, this sounds really salty. I'm not salty, just saying what I think should be done, if it can be done. I'm glad they're fixing matchmaking Dx.

It's expected to roll out when it's ready. No one other than the devs themselves has any more information than that. What we do know is that it's in active development, and last we heard they were in the process of conducting live tests.

Another patch with no matchmaking update.

You guys are also all forgetting this: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/124795/status-update-matchmaking-changes#latest

I believe I heard that they implemented it, and removed it. and if it wasn't, it sticks very close to the rank anyways.
Either way... I agree with the thread. It needs to be fixed/redone. Played a match with a friend that just got the game a little while ago, and we went up against a rank 15 killer. I'm rank 1. He was rank 19. It wasn't pretty. And I wasn't wanting easy matches, I simply wanted to play with a friend that just recently got the game.
As a killer, I just had a match where 2 people were the same rank as me, and the other two were much higher. That was a long and frustrating match. Why was I matched with them, when I clearly cannot compete? I would much rather wait a longer time to get a more fair match than quickly get into an unfair match.

I definitely agree it needs fixing/improvement. I linked the post because a lot of people I talk to don't seem to know it was a thing that was happening at all. And given that it's secret, it's hard to say whether it's been stopped or just being tested further. It does explain the rank discrepancies we see at times, though I do believe a big issue is making sure no one is in queue for too long. This is something which could theoretically be solved if cross platform works.
There was someone earlier that mentioned pairing a lower rank killer with a SWF group that is all red/purple ranks except for one low rank person and I think this would be great. It's not fair for the killers who are legit low rank and it's less fun for the higher rank survivors. Though it is more depressing if you still die to a low rank killer.

It hasn't been stopped, the first match is against people within about 5 levels of your rank considering you are about 14/13 rank minimum. The second and third match is against 50% red ranks everytime. If you play decently say kill 2/4 one of the two being a red rank then you play against 4 red ranks. Which I did recently as Freddy for a daily with one perk, not fun, it was so bad one of the survivors apologized. If you suck on your 2nd and 3rd matches then you will get ranked with someone close to your rank again. The solution to this problem from my perspective is play well the first match, go afk on 2nd and 3rd, play the fourth mAtch. Does that sound like compelling game play?

Had a lovely match just now where I was a rank 9 killer, against a 3 man swf that was all red ranks, with a rando in purple ranks. Yes. That was totally fair and fun. I would outright rather wait an extra 20 minutes for a match that is fair and actually ######### fun.

I have have almost 5 games in a row (rank 13 killer) where I am tossed in and just beaten down like a child learning shapes by rank 6+ survivors. How am I supposed to enjoy the game when I can’t even play it, I love this game when it has even matches. Everyone involved has similar skill levels and it’s enjoyable to relax while playing. However, having games where people can do as they please because they realize how much higher ranked they are than you and are guaranteed a deathless win is frustrating.

Face camping starts now
2 -
Look at me everyone, I'm not good at a game so I have to inform you all I'm going to facecamp! All the normies will feel the pain now!
2 -
Don't know why I don't rank up.... Hey Developers your game is broken!
2 -
Should a rank 20 place against rank 8 would that be fair?
1 -
Feedback: Matchmaking is bad
Suggestion: You should feel bad!
1 -
fair enough

everyday life
1 -
Yeah, that seems fair.
2 -
BTW i only play this game for 2.5 weeks , its like pairing a bronze rank with challenger in LOL. NICE!
2 -
Have no fear fellow gamers.... the awesome devs by daylight intend to hide rank so nobody will ever know how horrid their matchmaking is. No player that’s played for more than about 8 minutes will ever be able to determine the ranks once their Wiley coyote super plan goes into effect. Rest easy lol

best way to solve the problem: NOW WHEN YOU'RE OUTMATCHED EVERY GAME YOU CAN'T PROVE IT
3 -
The "excuse" is that they are working on a MMR system that supposedly will fix issues, even thought they don't want to give us any details on what it'll even measure because they're worried about people deranking on purpose. As if these people won't just do as generally poor as they can anyway and still most likely derank, meanwhile the playerbase will have no idea whether the system is decent/working or not, and can no longer call them out on it.
Hopefully they change their mind on the information aspect, or if they have already I have not heard anything about it.

The thing is, even though they would implement this "system" it's clear when you're playing with survivors out of your league. I mean, You start a chase with one and 30s (wich is the most I expend in a chase without a hit) you hear 3 gens pop. Then you can know how fuc* you are. Seeing the rank really doesn't matter, you know when they're the real shi*. Sad tho', it's like matchmakingsuc said, I've been playing 'round 2 weeks, like him, got 'bout 152hr in the game and every night I get paired with 1-2-3k hr players.
1 -
its most likely SWF as there is no rank difference limits unlike overwatch where if you are 1000 SR less then your friend you cant play comp this loose rank difference does seem to mess up the MM alot :/

It's just a daily... C'mon.

I worked all day I'm tired and just want to have fun. HOW MUCH DOES THAT COST?
1 -
That's still f'ed up!!!
