I'd say either with the Silent Hill chapter, or after like a mid-chapter patch. but the new lighting with updated lockers, pallets, chests, generators, and items like flashlights, toolboxes and med-kits. I expect with the Silent hill chapter. the map overhauls I think will take time, and if so they will most likely come out in this order. ''I'm only listing the first few''

    • first will be.."Badham Preschool".
    • second probably at the same time as Badham..."Lampkin Lane" I think this cause they could borrow assets from each-other.
    • third will be "Family Residence" along with Sanctum of Wrath same reason as Badham and Lamkin.
    • fourth will most likely be "The Backwater swamp" collection of maps, this is because they have already updated most of the assets and added volumetric fog.

The rest will probably come out within a few months. I hope i gave you some hope lol

Definitely won't be coming as soon as the Silent Hill chapter, and I'd be very surprised if it came out in the mid-chapter either. At this point in time, they've probably pretty much finished the content for the mid-chapter and will be moving into QA and bug fixes and such. The way they presented it on the stream was still very much as a work-in-progress that probably won't be out for many months. My guess would be maybe end of this year or early 2021, depending on how optimistic we're being. All we really know at this stage is that it will be sometime within the next year.

I'm guessing end of the year or early-mid 2021. It seemed like they only had a few maps done and they wanted to do one giant graphical update all at once.

When did they say that? Remember that "this year" in the context of the roadmap means between now and next June, not necessarily this calendar year.

they also said in segments the "updates" if you will, will come out so not necessarily all in one as you guys said

They said it would be happening in several phases, yes. Still, considering the amount of time it takes to develop that sort of thing, I stand by what I said about it being unlikely that any of those phases will happen within the next three months.

also if you watched that part of the steam you would've seen both cote and the other dude both say this year and in segments, also they now have an entire team on just graphics and assets, and from the looks of it the assets are almost complete along with two or more maps. asset updates and lighting don't have to come with map overhauls for they are completely different. theses changes are going to come faster than you think

Gonna say we get pyramid head, then we get a mid chapter patch with a rework killer and maybe some ranking adjustments. Then another new chapter, then the next mid chapter patch I bet some updated graphics will come through.

But again - "this year" can mean "year of DBD". Companies like to calculate in their "own" years. e.g. I work for a company (as a Volunteer) and the new year for them starts in April. So if something is happening in April, it is happening at the beginning of the year/first thing of the year and so on. Even tho something happened in February, this is considered "last year".

So it is more likely that "year" means anything from the 4th anniversary till June next year.

I did watch that part of the stream - multiple times, while writing up the complete summary I did of it. I know what was said. I also know that content for the mid-chapter patch is almost certainly pretty much complete by this point, and what they presented on the stream was emphasised as being very much a work in progress, and likely not the kind of thing that would be ready for launch within a week or two of that preview.

I would even go so far as to say that art and graphics are not nearly so straightforward a process as you seem to think, and what we saw on the stream could easily be the graphical equivalent of a first draft. I think it's important to look at it from that perspective, because a misunderstanding of how long and complicated the development process can be is, I think, at the root of much of the impatience and unrest that I see on the forums among players who criticise the devs for not rolling out updates or fixes quickly enough.

Either way, I never said it was impossible that the first phase of the update could come sooner than I anticipate, only that it's improbable, and on that basis I'd caution against getting your own or anyone else's hopes up too much about it.

Well the only things i actually see coming with chapter 16 is the new grass, pallets, lockers, and items the other stuff like lighting and map overhauls I see a bit later but not by much except map overhauls they will take a while but not be released all in one

No new pallets, lockers or items in Chapter 16, and new grass only to the extent that any new grass assets may have been created for the new map. If it were coming with the new chapter, it would have been on the PTB, and I don't remember seeing any of that when I was playing it.

Considering the impact new graphics would have on current gen consoles, I'm assuming they're holding off all new and upgraded assets for the release of PS5 / X-Box Series X

This way, they can apply improved visuals more liberally, without having consoles churn like molasses trying to play the game.
