Idea to compensate players for camping
Since camping seems to affect primarily lower level players and new players and there is no real way to stop killers from doing it why not give the survivors something in return.
My though was why not for every 10 seconds survivors are hooked and within the killers terror radius (or within what would be the standard radius for killers for those that are masking their radius) they get a token and at the end of the match that survivor gets 10% bonus to all blood points gained capping at 100% and stackable with other modifiers.
That way it gives players a reason to play it out even when a killer is making the game miserable.

Fully approved. Would also add this for being slugged for long lengths of time. Game needs to smooth out some of the rougher edges and also reduce the grind; two crows, one pebble.
3 -
entity progress should slow significantly if the killer is too close (whatever BEhavior would deem that as)
it should have harsh punishment, we have to discourage this from happening.
5 -
Tried, exploited by SWFs, failed. As long as survivors can hide near the hook, bomb the hook or mess it up in any other way, you can't punish the killer for their bad teamwork.
9 -
Sounds good to me, though id say that they should be getting a percentage of the points that everyone else is earning too. Theyre a distraction afterall. Anything that lets players get more bps im good with
0 -
Yeah that makes sense, give something back to players that get hooked in general maybe not a modifier but just accumulate some more points for being a distraction. I just wanted to help incentivize low level/new player to not feel like they are getting nothing out of a match went they get hooked first or get camped.
2 -
Well and its just fair. It would help encourage people that are being face camped to not suicide and they are distracting the killer.
1 -
This is an awesome idea
0 -
sure, its an incentive to keep going and not punishing the killer.
make it so high that killers are only using camping as a real strategy and not to make the camped surv miserable! (because that is the real reason why getting camped is so frustrating: you gain nothing and many killers actually do it not as a strategic mechanic but to make the surv(s) salty)

Last night I was being facecamped by a leatherface, team saved me and we all made it to exit. If you give up in this game its because you arent really into PVP
LOL
2 -
tbf that was probably just a noob leatherface, even with BT he should have gotten the rescuer with his chainsaw after/while he unhooked..

One thing I never understood is, the devs added the emblem penalty to killers camping, but they don't get the penalty if another survivor is nearby. Why can't they just reuse this system but with entity progression? If killer is within 16m the progression meter slows down, but if another survivor is hiding within those 16m or killer is chasing someone else, then the progression continues as normal.
Only downside to this is killer will be able to tell if another survivor is hiding nearby after hooking someone/ when camping.
0 -
They did that and survivors abused the ######### out of it. All youd need to do is you and a buddy stand just outside the 16 meters together in plainview. If the killer chases one of you then free unhook. If the killer doesnt then the 4th guy has a ton of time to do gens. It puts the killer who isnt camping in a ######### situation and the survivors know that.
2 -
Literally, survivors empower camping. Survivors make it miserable.
Do gens.
1 -
I suggested something exactly just like this but was shot down😒.
0 -
Yeah, we discussed this before, I think.
The tech is all there. Just reward the hooked survivor for objective progress done by their team while the killer is within a certain radius of the hook.
0 -
I guess but the problem you run into with a lot of players is that no one really cares about rank and BP (as much). They want to play the game. You can't compensate a crappy game where you get first downed, hooked, and camped 2-4 matches back to back.

That's the price of losing, though. That's no different from any other game - especially team games where you can't just lose, quit, and start over immediately.
0 -
Doing gens is what everyone else should do but the one on the hook should be able to benefit from keeping the killers attention as well. This idea doesn't penalize the killer at all it only gives the survivor more incentive to not quit while being camped.
0 -
The hooked survivor is doing nothing to keep the killer's attention. They're bait on a hook. I don't agree with adding a base mechanic that rewards failure just because someone beat you in a specific way.
0 -
They are bait on a hook that IS literally keeping the killers attention if that killer is camping. You arent rewarding a "failure" you are compensating a player for their time. Time that is helping teammates complete the objective and work as a team. It encourages staying in the game even if you as the individual fail to make it out.
0 -
The hooked survivor is LITERALLY keeping the killers attention if that killer is camping. This isn't rewarding failure, its compensating the players time and encouraging them to not quit and work together. This is only a thing in the event the killer is camping the hook, otherwise nothing changes in the game.
0 -
It doesn't. But I'm going to feel less bothered about it if I don't depip because I got camped. And with the suggested bp multiplier I'll feel like it wasn't a complete waste of time.
1 -
They should do it while no other survivor is in the radius of the hook.
Problem is you don’t need to be 5 or 10 meters away from the hook to camp. You can be 30 meters away and still camp.
The idea that the OP offers is not a solution to the problem just alleviates the situation.
0 -
That's the idea. It doesn't entirely make up for it but I'm more willing to play out a match being camped if my time and effort is being rewarded. Otherwise I can just kill myself on the hook and move on to the next game screwing over other survivors in the process.

This could be an incentive to not immediately hook suicide though, especially for solo survivors. SWF can pretty much count on their teammates to buy them time in case of camping, but in solo q there is no reason for the camped one to stay when they don’t gain anything at all.
there would obviously still be hook suicides but this mechanic could is better than nothing..
0 -
Its not intended to be a solution for camping but rather offer something to the survivor without taking anything from the killer.
0 -
I do it to spite the killer in the hopes my team will be smart and do gens. But being compensated for that would be nice.
1 -
slugging is alright imo
0 -
Gotcha. I agree... I think the this is something the devs should have incorporated since the beginning. Considering the game allows players to play like that.
0 -
There are few that do that though, not everyone is a goods sports like you. As I said, for SWF it’s pretty normal to stay, but most solo survivors only play for themselves.
0 -
the harsh punishment is getting 1 kill while the other survivors do gens and escape. I can see this and the OP being abused.
1 -
dude they would still suicide. Do you really think a rage quitter would care to stick around to give their team points? No they wouldnt. They dont care if theyre ruining their teams experience already if theyre willing to quit because theyre getting camped
1 -
Unless the survivor got on the hook on purpose, that's not true at all. But, if you wanna go there, struggling already gives points.
0 -
Of course people will still rage quit, killers will stil slug and face camp. But for those of us that enjoy playing giving us something to encourage sticking around will improve the games for a large amount of players and not hurt the killers at all.
1 -
It doesn't matter if the survivor intentially gets themselves hooked if the killer isn't camping there is nothing to be gained. The entirety of this change hinges on the killer making the decision to actively camp the hook.
0 -
Some will, some wont. It will reduce the number a bit. And regardless, the ones that stick it out should be rewarded
1 -
Honestly just remove the ability to struggle off of the first hook. Its THE only way to stop suicide by hook. Change the adam perk and bam, longer games for survivors. More opportunity for killers to make interesting plays. The only way to quit at that point would be through the menu which will get them banned if they try.
0 -
No, I think you sorely dismiss the fundamental that the hook is the consequence for the survivor. Not the killer. The killer should never be negatively affected by a hook.
0 -
In no way have I advocated in the thread a negative effect for the killer. Read the thread
0 -
Do gens. Okay, but then I don't have time to cleanse totems and then Noed. Even if 3 people get out it just makes for a boring game. No bloodpoints and everyone depips.
0 -
that´s an interesting idea, because it doesn´t punish the killer, but instead compensates it for survivors. hell, one of these days i was even thinking about a mechanic where the killer camped a survivor the survivor would bleed out slower, giving more time to the other survivors to do gens... But this is a lot better.
0 -
The point here isnt to stop suicides, its to reward players that are getting face camped with something more than a wasted game.
0 -
You should have plenty of time to risk NOED. Both doors are being opened at the same time if the killer commits to camping a hook during EGC, while the other remain alive and relatively unharmed most of the trial.
0 -
That sounds easily solved.
Give the killer a penalty while being nearby a hooked survivor, UNLESS he is in a chase with another survivor.
That way, if the survivors are being bad or bombing the hook, the killer doesn't get a penalty for being near it. But if the killer is blatantly camping, he gets punished.
Edit: As for OP's suggestion, I disagree for 2 reasons.
- The problem with hook camping is that it sucks the FUN out of the match. Giving blood points as a compensation doesn't make the match more fun. Bloodpoints shouldn't be a solution to poor game design.
- If they would give compensation for being camped, they would be admitting that camping is a problem, without providing a fix for it. Then they should instead create a fix for the problem.
0 -
I get where you're coming from but neither point is a reason not to do something. Again the point of this isn't to make it more fun, fix camping, or to apply anything negative to killers. Its just a simple way to try and keep new and low level players in the game when they are being camped. They should do something to fix face camping but that isnt likely to happen and it's just much easier to offer a bonus to survivors to keep them engaged.
0 -
I 100% agree. I wanted some kind of BP reward for sticking out a face camp for awhile now.
Earning BP as survivor is already extremely slow compared to killer, and even for killers the grind is still insane. Any way to give survivors a bit more BP would be a good thing, especially since if you get face camped from first hook you'll walk away with abysmal BP.
It does not negatively affect the killer in any way. It incentives survivors to do the proper thing when face camped and buy as much time for their teammates as possible. It helps take the sting out of being camped, which will only hurt those killers who do it to to try and ruin the game for the survivor.

Well I can tell you from numerous experiences that you don't always have time to escape. And again, even if everyone but the camped survivor get out it was a boring match where nobody scores points and everyone likely depips. Nothing like waiting ten minutes to play and then having one of these type of games. Really ruins the experience.

i mean, when you get caught, youre kind of in the killers playground at that point. If your team really wants to mess around and not do gens, thats on the team. Playing survivor means youre agreeing to be the victim. There should be no incentive for getting hooked as a survivor.
0 -
Its been explained several times and by several people so I don't know what's so hard for you to understand. I'm not asking for an incentive for being hooked. The incentive is for those that stick around while being camped rather that just suicide themselves and moving to the next game. At this point you would have to be intentionally obtuse to not understand the suggestion.
