Generator regression?

Greetings, I'm new around these parts!

I've recently joined the game and have been having fun overall, and I noticed something that seemed odd from a balance point of view, this is about generators.

I was playing a bit last night using the Pig and using the Surveillance perk, I thought there was a bug while playing the game because as I would try to find or chase a survivor, the generator would immediately turn yellow as they pass by.

I realized my mistake after I asked a friend to investigate how it works; the survivor (as they pass by) can simply click as they pass by and completely stop a generator's regressing state very quickly.

When playing as a survivor, I don't want the generator to regress obviously. As a killer, it's the opposite. However, it felt like there was a disparity between the two. A killer needs to commit to damage a generator (unless they are using a perk like surge) but a survivor simply to press M1 for less than a split second to stop regression.

So my question is the following: how come such disparity exist between the two?

Shouldn't damaging a generator forces me into it (can't cancel it) as a killer?

And shouldn't stopping a regression from happening force me to commit for at least as much time as the killer took to damage the generator?

Yeah, I sometimes think about this as well and I think you're right.

I think you should have to work on a Gen for at least a full second to stop the regression

If you really hate it you can run overcharge, a doctor's perk, so when they interact with a Gen they immidiatly get the overcharge skill check and if they just tapped the Gen they will instantly fail it so it's like 15% regression for free every time they do it

Oh I made the mistake of posting this as a question. I definitely do wonder about this, it's just a very odd thing to have that one side has to commit and the other doesn't.

I also was wondering in regards to kicking/breaking things (as a killer) because it's very odd that generators damaging animation can be cancelled but something like the palette doesn't.

If survivors tap gens to fix them they still get the skill check even while running away.

why would I want to be locked into that animation as killer? Currently, if I see a hiding survivor while I'm kicking, I can immediately cancel to start a chase or get a down. In your world, that would not be possible, increasing the overall frustration present in the game.
