Sigh...the sweat matches have returned.
I stopped playing killer for awhile because I was getting matched with survivors that were far more experienced than me. Then when the new MMR came along it was a breath of fresh air, as my matches were no longer try hard, sweaty matches (but even I'll admit that sometimes I was still getting matched with people that I shouldn't have). But now that the MMR is turned off, the game is once again back to setting up matches based on ranks, which sucks because even the devs themselves admitted that ranks mean nothing.
So why am I not surprised that my rank 15 killer is going up against red and purple rank survivors? Which is even more baffling considering that cross-play is up and running. You mean to tell me that red and purple ranks were the best you could find for a rank 15 killer across PS4, switch, Xbox, and PC? 🤨
Here's hoping the MMR gets turned back on soon.🤞

When did they ever stop? I've been facing red rank 1 SWFs all night as rank 6. It's always been this way, even from rank 20 when I started a month and a half ago, because a lot of SWF will take like 16 with them to throw off the MM and they get matched with someone well below where they should.
The only differences I've noticed have been, some console SWFs just like to ######### with the killer and don't even try to do gens it's all flash lights and head on/pallet/DS stuns, and they try 360 a lot more. Of course, the only ######### talk comes from PC, cause it's the only place it can come from, GG EZ BABY KILLER!!

You're not wrong, I was simply referring to how much better my experience was with the MMR than without.
It's sad because the Killer is the one thing you don't have to fear in dead by daylight. The state of the matchmaking and SWF makes playing as killer the more terrifying experience.

Since the new match making I've been able to get rank 2 killer with Clown. While I still get the occasional game where I get destroy, right after that I get a bunch of potato that can't do ######### (especially console player).

The MMR was good for me too. I called a week prior to the MMR drop that it would last a week and then be turned off and I was right, but I was sad to be right since it had worked well for me. I’m a lvl 1 Killer that tries to put up a decent fight so, I usually hover around 4-5 killers consistently and this MMR system let me play and try and learn other killers without getting demolished and bullied.
Hope it comes back soon. I’ve gone back to taking breaks till new content drops or my rank naturally drops to a level where I don’t get SWF try hards every game~

Since cross play all I ever am matched with is nothing but 15s and higher. Dumb survivors who suck as teammates and killers who just camp. It's so irritating. I want ranked matches. I'm rank 10 and this is absurd

Another aspect of the MMR that I really liked was that it took it easy on you when trying out a new killer you had never played with before. But now with the MMR turned off, it's matching you against people of your rank despite having no experience with certain killers. I think it just goes to show why this game needs its own practice mode like its mobile counterpart already has.

I'm a console player myself, and I certainly don't try to be a jerk or to take the game hostage. But there is something to be said about pitting console players against PC players. PC is much better optimized with better fps, which handicaps console ports greatly. I like having cross-play, but I agree with others in that I think there should be an option that allows people to cross play with other consoles and not PC.

OP -- I'm not sure exactly what they are using for matchmaking, but if they turned off MMR and replaced it with rank-based matchmaking, what you are most likely experiencing is time-based matchmaking. What I mean by that is, the longer you wait in queue, the more likely you are to be matched with folks who are outside your rank. BHVR believes it is better to provide a match sooner than to continue to wait until the appropriate opponents are found. It's time vs. quality.
If you want to avoid that, your best bet would be to play during the peak hours of your region. That way you will have a greater number of players to be matched with. Playing during off-peak hours will reduce that number and will be more likely to result in mismatches due to time in queue.

With the MMR turned off the game has gone back to looking at ranks to set up matches, which does suck considering that even the developers themselves stated that ranks don't necessarily represent skill.
But you're absolutely right about the game pitting you against anyone it can find if the queue times are taking too long. In my region survivor queues are instant during mid-day, whereas killer queues are instant in the evening. However it was like this before cross-play, so it's a little odd to still see long queue times after cross-play.

Returned? Have they ever been gone?
They didn't say they mean nothing. They said it does not reflect skill, it reflects gametime. And the MMR matched people with 80 hours to people with 3k hours. So emblem match making is currently the better approach. Because more playtime at least means that you have seen enough things to know the basics about the game. Like it doesn't make sense to crouch behind a wall when Legion just hit someone with Frenzy.
And noone can exactly say how it is working. Just a guess: I noticed higher queue times in survivor red ranks and almost instant in killer red ranks (both PC). From forum feedback it looks like console survivors are mostly fine with crossplay while killers complain about performance differences being a handicap. I also can confirm that in my games I see almost always console survivors, but I went against maybe 3 console killers since crossplay is active.
So my guess is that console killers is the biggest group that is disabling crossplay in the options, leading to a bad ratio of available killers/survivors you can go against. Meaning that the match making will most likely loosen the requirements to get people into games that have been waiting for a longer time, so it is possible that the rank messup is happening because of crossplay distribution of roles. As I said, just a guess, no idea how match making is processing things.
I can't follow how your experience was better with MMR. My experience was that I constantly (red ranks) was matched with rank 15 or lower survivors or getting rank 19 killers instead. Same as killer, getting sometimes full squads of grey ranks. So I would have expected you to face several red ranks as well. The only 'positive' thing I noticed was people having fun to smash teams or loop killers into oblivion, which was/is rarely a thing in emblem match making

Less than a week before the MMR went live, I had three back-to-back matches where my rank 14 killer at the time faced 3 lobbies of nothing but red ranks. But once the MMR was turned on I started being matched against more people of my skill level, although like I said before I was still getting matched against people that I shouldn't have - both for the better and for the worse.
I'll admit that the MMR still needs tweaking, but for casual players like myself it was a very nice thing to have, especially when trying to play as a killer that I had never played with before. Hopefully they can iron out what was wrong so that way gamers can have fun regardless of their skill level.

Your post is self-contradictory. In the first paragraph you acknowledge the devs said ranks don't matter, then in the second paragraph you go on to complain about how you're getting matched with players at a higher rank than you.
With the MMR, a lot of experienced players were finding they were regularly matched against new players, which clearly wasn't fair. I have more hours in DBD than I want to admit and I was going up against new survivors with a few hours to their name. With it turned off I'm finding a much more even match of players.
It would be ideal if a good middle ground could be found, but in a game like DBD I don't know if that's possible. Hopefully BHVR can get to a system that suits everyone!

What are you talking about? Old MMR was terrible for new player experience also. Both systems are.

The good thing is if you get paired against red console players, as a general rule, they are pretty potato. I mean honestly even half of Pc red ranks are pretty bad.
Survivor rank means so little because it’s easier to pip up it’s just a matter of time invested. Even the devs admit this.

I've been thinking about playing killer every once in a while but this is exactly why I haven't yet. I'm a survivor main (red rank) and I'm scared I'll be matched with red rank survivors.
I've never played killer before and if MMR doesn't come back looks like it'll stay that way.

I was referring to what I was experiencing both with the MMR and without. Without the MMR I was being matched with people far more experienced than me, but with the MMR it was a lot more bearable, but admittedly not perfect.
Matching games based off ranks isn't the way to do it, but the MMR, while better, wasn't ideal for everyone either. I think the devs were on the right track with the MMR, I just hope that they can fix what was broken.

Unranked mode would make everybody happy but they don't want everybody happy

Oh yeah it was so wonderful for rank 20 killers with no perks and 5 hours of experience getting red rank survivors.
Please come back new MMR, you provided such balance to the game.

Unranked and ranked would split the playerbase, that would result in longer queues and would NOT make everyone happy.
Also is there any benefit to ranked? Otherwise sweaty players will just play casual if they get all the same stuff.

People, including the devs, misinterpret the phrase “rank doesn’t matter”
The phrase means the following: Just because you are Rank 1, doesn’t mean you know how to play well, at Rank 1. It does mean that you’re likely better than someone who’s Rank 15 and gets to Rank 10 after playing daily for a month. It does mean you’re better than the person who’s never gone higher than purple.
Take any professional sport. Getting into the NBA/MLB/NFL/NHL, etc is awesome. But that doesn’t mean you’re going to make the team, play, play meaningful minutes, be good at your position, be great at your position, or be a HOFer.
that’s the meaning of “rank doesn’t matter”

I'm getting the opposite. Almost every match I get outplayed by super chill hold-W survivors that drop pallets quick and hold m1 real good. No sweat in their brows, because there's nothing particularly difficult or intense about that.
