Anyone can be targeted by this. And even if it was only streamers or another small number of people the penalties should absolutely be disabled again until it's fixed because there is a high chance those players are never able to play again otherwise.

With it taking almost 6 DCs to get past a 5 or 10 min ban, the innocent defense doesnt really stick.

Internet issues? Fix that ######### first.

Game bugs and DCs constantly? Stop playing it or accept you're going to have issues until they fix the bugs (because I NEVER get bugged or DCd but people claim it).

Sick of xyz killer? Accept it and move on after the game.

The only legit DC reasons are real life things you cant ignore. Emergencies, etc. Otherwise you're being either a child, or have internet issues you know about and still play through, but when you choose/get DCd, you ruin the game.

  • Carpemortum
    Carpemortum Member Posts: 4,506

Which is still better than going down and DCing before they hit the ground.

If you cant stand 10 minutes games SO OFTEN that you get an hour ban, that's kinda on you. Imo it looks like you want a break.

If you're getting bugged DCs THAT often, maybe check your install and net, or idk maybe take a break for a bit? If you know it will DC you, and you can get a ban, but play anyway, and then get DCd, what did you expect? I intentionally DCd like 5 games in a row one night to test how bad it is, and only got to 10 min (11, so assuming 15 and I watched some of it away during the game) bans.

But everyone has an eloquent excuse as to why THEIR DC is legit.

They need to be more open about what they are doing they disable them and reenable them but don’t tell anyone how they fixed them or if they did we have to find out when this stuff happens they didn’t fix them

dc penalties does nothing if there not DB they kill them self on first hook to by pass dc penalties use useless just disable it and bring in bots is the best thing they can do now.

I kind of find it funny ONLY because of all the people commenting on the forums that hackers are rare and they never see them even though there's multiple posts/comments on the forums/social media about encounters with hackers during games and now for 3rd time a streamer has been hacked with DC penalty. Obviously hackers are a problem in DBD, and fairly common, and whatever devs have in place isn't a challenge for hackers.

  • Crowman
    Crowman Member Posts: 9,553

Because people are more likely to post about hackers they encounter than they are about all the games where they play a normal game of dbd.

Are the streamers lying and faking it disconnecting and saying they got "hacked" to remove the penalty it wouldn't surprise me.

  • bm33
    bm33 Member Posts: 8,273

Could also say the ones that are posted on forums/social media are only the most egregious and many that encounter hackers just accept it as something that comes with online multi-player games (comment I've seen on multiple posts about hackers) so they don't post about every encounter.

  • Crowman
    Crowman Member Posts: 9,553

Sounds like you just want to believe all your losses are because of hackers. Hackers are not that common and thinking everyone you are playing against is hacking is a bad mindset.

  • bm33
    bm33 Member Posts: 8,273

Nice assumption but wrong. I'm on PS4 with crossplay off so I don't experience hackers there. My losses are from my own play (mostly), my teammates (yay solo), and bad console optimization (they really need to fix this). Didn't say everyone was a hacker, common does not mean everyone just that it's not rare. Seeing multiple hacking posts on the forums recently, daily on social media like FB groups, and seeing streamers keep getting hacked does not make hacking appear to be a rare occurrence in DBD.

  • Crowman
    Crowman Member Posts: 9,553

Just because you see it posted online a lot does not make it common. Hackers are rare. DBD has millions of players so there are bound to be people posting about the very small percentage of hackers that exist. You are just falling for availability bias.

  • bm33
    bm33 Member Posts: 8,273

Or you're just in denial about how common hackers are.

  • ALostPuppy
    ALostPuppy Member Posts: 3,398

DC penalties were always a stupid addition. You can't punish someone for not wanting to play, especially when this game is crashing more than ever on console apparently, and things like the hill bug STILL EXISTS, literally soft locking you until the killer picks you up (which, given half the killer player base, they probably won't until the end and abuse the hell out of it so you're literally stuck there for minutes not doing anything.)

Not only that but they will always find a workaround for it, if their solution to this problem is turning it off and on again.

The "hackers" being referred to in this post are not the same kind of hackers you find in game using speed hacks etc.

We're talking about actual hackers, somehow compromising BHVR's infrastructure and manipulating DC penalties for "teh lulz".

The former - people using hacks/cheats in game, is actually rare. Exceedingly rare.

  • Crowman
    Crowman Member Posts: 9,553

Both types of hackers are rare and in this case of hacks they are targeting high profile dbd streamers to get attention so bhvr will disable the dc penalty again.

  • SloppyKnockout
    SloppyKnockout Member Posts: 1,505

Both types are not rare. It's a common occurence lately amoung sizeable context creators. If they were that rare, DC penalties wouldn't have been disabled twice (soon to be 3 times) because of them.

I agree that having bots is the best case for people that dc but with that said I don't think they should remove the penalties even if they add bots. Someone shouldn't be able to just freely dc because they were annoyed in a match.

Without penalties, people can dc for any number of stupid reasons with no consequence. Dislike the killer, got found first, bad map, good map but not the one they wanted, killer perks like Franklins, so someone can get hatch, the list goes on.

With the penalties on most people are at least forced to play long enough for the killer to get a BBQ stack off of them and some points and it gives a little extra time for the other three playing as well. Not only that but it also wastes more time for the person dcing which means they won't be able to do it as often since they have to play it out a little. Even if they just afk the entire time, it's less games they get to mess up for other people.

Some killers don't even let you suicide on hook either. I've had people come right up to me and point to the hook, I just slug them or ignore them for the entire game. I've been on the other end as well, I've gotten really annoyed with my teammates who are god awful and I just wanted to be done with that game so I got the killers attention, pointed to the hook and he just shook his head and didn't kill me till last which was really annoying; as it should be as well.

  • NekoGamerX

dude people still DC with penalties by killing them self on hook to by pass penalties this DC penalties only hurts killer who can't DC because they don't want to be penalty so they have to stay get bullied.

the dc penalty was made for the survivor who dc and ruin the game for other and they still doing it by killing them self on first hook, killer DC does not ruin the game ruin it for they self he loses all point gets depiped pretty much waste of they time(on top of that dc penalty) but with survivors killer dc they keep all they points up to that point and it pretty much win for them they just go back to lobby start new game.

with  dc penalty and hackers they not going to stop dev don't know how stop them so they need to disable dc penalty before more people get bad word over.

bots feel like the best idea if someone dc the bot maybe better then the person who dced anyways.

Pretty sure I just experienced 3 hackers today while playing killer. Either that or just another level of lag I've never seen before.

I feel bad for Puppers since i like him but at the same time i'm extremely grateful towards these hackers because these penalties are just ######### dumb and there is no need to get into detail as to why that is the case.

I hope the hackers keep it up tbh. Love being able to DC penalty-free from cancerous games.

    Penalties are disabled BTW.

@Peanits @not_Queen Be sure to let the infrastructure team know - actually fix it this time if you intend to re-enable them. Stop assuming hackers will forget.

You underestimate people’s dedication to being jackasses.

I ran a home services business and got into an argument with the owner of an IT business. He prank called me for several months with an unknown number and left a fake bad review for my company.

How do I know it was him? He got into an argument with someone else and within ten minutes that person reported exactly what happened to me.

If a hacker doesn’t like a big streamer they can do this once every three days to completely ######### them over.

  • SloppyKnockout
    SloppyKnockout Member Posts: 1,505

It's not the big streamers they don't like. This is rebellion against DC penalties, which don't need to exist in a casual, borderline party game like DBD anyway.

It happens to Tru3 most because he feeds into it with his attitude and reactions.

Like gtav did with griefers it would limit the amount of d/cers by eliminations, just turn auto ban off

Would be ideal if this ordeal and the amount of complaints result in DC penalties being permanently scrapped once bots are introduced, would improve the game for everyone - Either that, or they could work on fixing the things that consistently make people DC, I just can't advocate against DC penalties when things like moris, certain killers and certain maps exist in their current state

DCing because you don't like going against something isn't a valid reason to DC. Especially when the majority of DC's are because people get outplayed, and not because of what they are going against. Mori's can be avoided before even getting into game, and most of the maps are find aside from ones like Disturbed Ward and Mother's Dwelling.

I think it's a pretty common, consistent opinion that playing vs Spirit, some Freddy builds, Deathslinger, Pyramid Head (could literally be made fine with one tweak), Clown is extremely unfun to play vs. Everyone says it but it needs to be said more, why are they nerfing Billy who was balanced perfectly and way better to go vs than all of these. I guess most are subjective, but Spirit is just ######### stupid and desperately needs some change. Still way quicker to DC vs a mori than alt+f4, also if it's a cypress/shroud of separation it can be a good idea to play and then dc if the killer decides to first hook mori someone. I think you understate how many problematic maps there are, maps like Badham (actually will be fixed though), Ormond, Fractured Cowshed, Haddonfield, Midwich, Hawkins in addition to those you listed are also pretty stupid and ones I'd DC on as killer (the first 3 being stupidly survivor sided, Midwich being fairly survivor sided and boring as #########, Hawkins being killer sided but boring as ######### by design), that makes up 7/35 maps after the patch, on avg 1/5 games is either gonna be boring as ######### or you can atleast DC (personally with DC penalties enabled I just facecamp on those maps if they bring an offering, and I actually just facecamp on Midwich as it's pretty much the optimal strategy since it's impossible to traverse, I'm sure the survivors would rather I just DC in these games anyway)
