Boil Over is a useless perk

I'm doing adept Kate, and I have to say this perk is useless, sure it might cause the killer confusion at first but there's always a hook close by. I really don't see why anyone would run this perk unless they commited to a meme wiggle build.

Agreed. It's a very minor inconvenience at best.

  • You have to use it in the right spots. Certain areas on most maps will give you time to wiggle off.

I've thought of a very simplistic way in order to rework it. Having it lore wise with the fighting spirit that makes the Entity enjoy the struggles. Game wise it acts as if once picked up. The nearest hookS in the range of maybe 16m are automatically broken. (Entity helps the wiggle by destroying nearest hooks)

This just makes it struggle to get to the closest hook the killer can get to. That way the survivor has an actual chance.

    Nothing else changes.

It's very trollish on the claustrophobic indoor maps (literally just Hawkins and Lerys). While it still probably won't save you on its own, it can waste a chunk of killer time by getting them stuck on every doorway and prop between you and the hook. Not to mention finding hooks is more challenging on indoor maps.

Perhaps ironically, Boil Over is probably at its strongest right now. It can exacerbate the "can't hook survivors" bug that killers are sometimes facing to a ridiculous degree (by constantly messing up their approach angle for the interaction). Though even then, it's still not a particularly great perk...

I was thinking the same thing, the perk would have use if it broke all hooks within 14 meters instead of just obscuring their aura's.

As it is now it's just garbage, it really doesn't do anything.

I agree with the auto-breaking of hooks within 14m upon being picked up. It won’t guarantee an escape (which would make it OP) but it will definitely help survivors with taking hits or sabotaging hooks to help you.

Right now Boil over just punishes new killers and is only somewhat useful on indoor maps.

The only time I got use from boil over was when Kate was first released when playing on the map the game, but since then didn't they make more hooks for all maps? It's just not a useful perk with how close and how many hooks there are now. Maybe if you run it in a SWF with breakout but you see I hate that, I hate how some perks are only good if you're grouped up with a SWF.

    16m vs 14m ?? I cant win 🥴 lol

I actually enjoy the help survivors give when trying to struggle when I'm killer in indoor maps. Especially Lery's. I dont fight against their struggles. I let it slip me around corners and doorways towards a hook I'm intending to go to. But also if I drunkstep one way feeling that I ain't going towards that hook. I save it and glide towards another hook. (Forgive the odd descriptive but in a sense, Boil Over doesnt feel strong enough to pull me away from a hook, I just go with it's flow)

What makes me laugh is the Devs consider this to be a "very Rare Perk" it should be rare, the impact it has on a game is negligible.

Iron Will is more suited for Very Rare status.

If Boil Over let you kick the killer backwards as opposed to left or right it would be a far better perk

Agreed, I used to have boil over on all my survivors but it was really only useful at tier 3 and combined with breakdown. hook breaks when you’re unhooked, then if killer gets you right after they would waste time bringing you back to the same hook thinkin that boil over was just hiding the hooks aura, only realizing the hook was actually broken after wasting time carrying you back to broken hook. With hooks so plentiful and close together now, even after they waste time carrying you to broken hook there’s usually multiple hooks close by the killer still has enough time to get different hook. Needless to say boil over is no longer being used by me. But I still love breakdown, really wish every survivor would use it, instead of frickin self care. There is still times where I’ve almost wiggled free that I wish I had boil over lol but those times are few and far between and is usually at the end of a match when 2 to 3 hooks are already broken from sacrificed survivors. I will say I think boil over has a hidden power where sometimes you wiggle free before filling up the bar, which is always a nice surprise but that’s just it you never know if you’ll get lucky or just be wasting a perk slot.
