Survivor Meta Change When?

So recently with Blight killer has seen a meta shift and actually for the better so I can’t complain

Just curious when will survivor meta shift it’s been the same since each of the perks released

It’s getting boring using it and going against it in my opinion

I think a lot of people agree it needs change so when?

Yeah it’s sad that’s the only thing which idky they don’t nerf some they do it to killer when the meta becomes too over used like ruin even if ruin is now stronger then ever

The only perks really need some updating is ds and exhaustion perks imo as exhaustion perks are as over used if not more then ruin was and they are the equivalent of gen perks on killer which are always getting change if used too much like again ruin

When i lost the fear of being face camped tunneled and slugged ( or the devs get rid of this )

Imo DM is going to be added to the meta... you can do the vault build (resilience and spine chill) those 3 perks may give you the ability to save infront of the killer by the react to you... just as long as you have BT as well.

Yeah I know I mean in anyways for meta to change either more strong perks or make the current perks weaker or the unused perks better anything really killer meta switched a lot over time but survivor never does

which my reason for why I think it is survivor meta is second chances killer is utility perks so easy to be swapped around by other utility perks

The survivor meta will changes when hell freezes over and pigs fly because BHVR are not fans of changing the META for survivors due to the review bombing and noise that tend to happen if they try. As the vast majority of DbD's playerbase, it'd be a ######### business decision to anger your main source of income.

Idk cuz honestly if someone unhooks in my face no matter speed of it or bt I’ll just rehook the same guy again so it really doesn’t help your team any doing that

that and the consensus is it’s a meme perk not worth a slot over ds unbreakable bt exhaustion perks adrenaline etc

  • RizeAki
    RizeAki Member Posts: 1,209

True even if the best move would be remove second chance style perks and make utility the only thing they go with like how killer is for the most part atleast and let them get over like killers did with ruin lol

heck I’m fine with the normal ones like ds unbreakable and bt but Exhaustion perks serve no real purpose to counter killer gameplay and there is barely counters to them so they will be ran every game (ds ofc needs fixed some but to a degree it is anti tunnel and doesn’t pair as hard with ub)

Desperate Measures isn't a meme... the pebble master perk is a meme etc... you mentioned that DS is meta so theres a good chance you'll have to go through BT then DS... if ya wanna tunnel the guy down have fun.

The issue is that the most popular perks for both killers and survivors, rather than being fun and creative niche perks, instead directly address fundamental issues and strategies with the game. For example:

DS/BT: Tunneling is a supremely effective and viable strategy, eliminating survivors one by one is far more efficient than spreading damage equally throughout the duration of the trial. DS makes this approach in killing less viable.

Unbreakable/Soul Guard: Similar to tunneling, slugging is also a very effective and viable strategy. As long as a survivor is on the ground they can do little more to contribute to the efforts of their team than a survivor who is sacrificed, as such this perk is run to make an effective approach less viable.

Iron Will: There is little difference in the efficacy of an injured vs fully healthy survivor, however the greatest detriment an injured survivor presents to themselves and their team, is that their cries of pain can more readily draw the killer to themselves and their teammates. This perk allows survivors to mitigate much of the downside of being injured, and pocket healing plans (adrenaline, inner strength, etc) for later on in the match.

Ruin-undying/Pop/Corrupt: While the goal of the killer is to sacrifice all four survivors rather than to explicitly prevent the gens from progressing, it is very clear that preventing the gens from progressing is by far the best way to extend your opportunities as a killer to meet this goal. It should then be no surprise that the "meta" perks affect these items in the trial more than any other item present such as windows, pallets, exit gates, etc.

BBQ: Bloodpoint economy and uh... aura reading I guess too, but sweet BP.

The issue many people have with these types of perks, beyond being pejoratively oversimplified as "second chance perks" although I am not gonna get into that, is that by their nature they are very passive perks. However, since they are so good at countering effective strategies by the killer, or so beneficial to ones optimal goal as a killer, one cannot run them without greatly hurting ones own chances of success (Just look at how non-obsession or no slow-down games go). And that leaves little room for, perhaps more interesting and situational perks like flip-flop, and the pebble, whispers, and overcharge. So not only are the most meta perks rather stagnant, but since they are all rather passive or reactive perks, they offer little variety to the gameplay on a trial by trial basis.

I mean you could get good a killer only gets to tunnel or camp if you or your team are bad

Besides that what does a free dodge for not looping correctly, a speed boost before being hit, a heal and a speed boost with no counter, and more have to do with camping or tunneling?

  • RizeAki
    RizeAki Member Posts: 1,209

Like I told the other guy what does free dodging of hits, speed boosts, and uncounterable heals and speed boosts have to do with any of those things? Plus it’s not that hard to beat a killer trying to do those things without a million crutches

I think a big problem is that devs consider this a party game. Yet many people consider it competetive. If it was strictly a party game then fun perk builds would be all the rage. But its not. So only competetive perks are played

The Meta might change when they release good Perks for Survivors. This is what happened with Killer Perks - Hex:Undying is a good Perk, it is used, so different Builds come up.

With the good Survivor Perks being in the Basegame and Halloween-DLC, you will not see a change in the Meta anytime soon.

(BTW funny that you use the word "boring", when Killers always make fun of Survivors saying that certain Killers are boring... Guess Double-Standards will never go away)

That’s just literally how asymmetrical games are to be played and again none of that has to do with the spam of 4 exhaustion perks a game if not 8 of them. Just learn how to loop better then the killer and they can’t tunnel you because they can’t catch you and will usually give up or lose the game.

Oh please, mr almighty, please tell me how to get better against a killer that proxy camps and tunnels you right when you get unhooked, and how to play against that without meta perks, because no looping skills will help you there. Play survivor sometime.

A bubba with noed will get 2 kills on average if he face-camps. And if any killer proxy camps, and no one has BT or DS, then no matter how good you can loop, you will always die no matter what. But sure.

And what you described are exhaustion perks. They are something every survivor should have in their build. I was talking about the non-exhaustion meta perks. And anyway, adrenaline is a very good perk against tunneling and camping too. When it gets activated when you're on a hook, that is.

" going against a killer you have to go Hmm what perks do they have."...Eh, not so much. Most of the time, 3 Perks are pretty obvious, only Perk Number 4 might be a surprise. Depends on the Killer tho.

    And well:

"And wouldn’t you get bored seeing the same 4 perks on each survivor?"

I dont care that much. I run the same Build since a long time and I will not change it. For what should I change it? To get tunneled immediatly when not using DS? Before I realized how scummy most Killers play, I used No Mither or just Perks which I thought were cool. Now I just use the strong stuff. And I doubt that I change it, since Killers wont change their Loadouts or playstyles.

But I also dont complain about what the other side is running. (Except maybe for stuff like running 4 Slowdown-Perks aka "I cannot apply pressure")

So why is it wrong now to play with 4 slowdown perks?

Gives the killer more time to kill all survivors and it's pretty much the counterpart to survivors stacking second chance perks to waste more of the killers time.

As soon as The Killer slows down with slugging, hovering and tunneling or at least (especially the latter) becomes a rare occurrence. I hate running DS and UB, but ime* these are nearly mandatory perks with the way the bulk of people play this game. Playing an Obsession-free trial is a nightmare, because again ime* The Killer will insta-tunnel and hook without mercy. Also the slug rate skyrockets in these matches.

*In my experience, meaning the things I personally encounter when I play as a Survivor. Your experience may vary, I reference my own.

  • Aven_Fallen
    Aven_Fallen Member Posts: 16,355

IMO stacking Slowdown-Perks or Stuff like Forever Freddy (which still exists, even tho its weaker) show that a Killer is not good at the game and rather needs to prolong the game as much as possible instead of going for Chase- or Tracking-Perks to apply pressure. Some Slowdown is ok (I am using Sloppy Butchere here and there or Corrupt Intervention), but too much is pretty lame. But that is just my opinion.

And regarding second-chance Perks, I think those are the only Perks which make sense for Survivors. This and Perks which help with the Objective, but those dont really exist and will never exist. Yeah, some players like Stealth, but Stealth is mostly pretty boring and BHVR is also going in a direction which does not really support Stealth. But again, this is my opinion. I rather have 4 Survivors with full Loadouts than 4 who are just hiding all the time.

May I ask how BHVR are going in a direction that does not support stealth?, the newer maps and reworked maps are both great for stealth both on the killer and survivor side. If they continue like this I'd say they're going towards making stealthy play more viable.

  • MadLordJack
    MadLordJack Member Posts: 8,814

There hasn't been a meta shift, because killers don't have an overall meta. There's just 1 perk that makes 1 other perk more valuable for a certain class of killers.

It will never change, because we take perks to fix the game. :^)

    Will tunneling ever end? -No.

    Will camping ever end? -No.

    Will slugging ever end? -No.

    No reason to change.

Maps - I dont think that the new Maps favor Stealth that much. Not much difference on Badham for me and Yamaoka is actually easier for me to find people. However, Scratch Marks are harder to see on Badham for example, but I dont think that this is an intentional change towards Stealth, they messed this up and it will hopefully be changed that the Scratch Marks are ABOVE the grass.

(In general, I am always for darker Maps, since the game looked way better when it was darker)

And I feel that since Legion more and more Killers came which straight up ignore Stealth. Legion does this with his Killer Instinct. Plague with the vomiting noises which cannot be negated by any means. Ghostface which starts to reveal players even if they are only looking briefly in his direction. Oni with the Blood Orbs which give your position away. Blight has some easy to use Aura Read Add-Ons (even tho, one of them will be nerfed, but it will still give information quite easily).

Sure, not all Killers, but some seem to go against Stealth more than others.

(I mean, in the end, I could be totally wrong and they indeed want to support Stealth. But Badham and Yamaoka did not make that much difference to me so far since their Reworks. But thinking about it, those Bushes on Saloon are good for stealth, so I can definitely see your point here)

Unfortunately the meta will never change unless the nerf some perks pretty hard. There are loads of really good perks you can run instead of the meta but they are only if you like the perk.

Honestly I’m not trying to ask survivors to change their perks I’m asking bhvr to update survivor perks so it’s more then just an exhaustion perk and 3 crutches every game times 4

No it won't. why would they give up a possible extra hook state and 3 chances to be hit just because the killer got made even weaker?

No one said not to camp and tunnel but if you so you shoulsnt be mad that survivors want to counter it.

Yeah I get why survivors run them I run SB BT DS and UB myself most games swap UB for WGLF for bp I just wish bhvr would change things up so we have more to run on survivor

The Meta will shift once survivors start using the best perk in the game, Deja Vu.

While each killer has a separate meta for their style their is an overall meta which was Thrilling Tremors (BBQ for bp) Corrupt Pop STBFL (This slot is sometimes changed for the best utility perk on said killer) Now it’s become BBQ Tinkerer Ruin Undying with some going Thrilling Corrupt Pop Dragon’s Grip

i disagree that you absolutely need 2nd chance perks, i was running Kindred, Spine Chill, SB and Iron Will in red ranks and did fine. The problem is the lower ranks 7-15, killers there tend to have no self-confidence or skill and just tunnel off hook or facecamp/ proxycamp, because they know they will either way lose the match against good survivors. I was reseted to rank 9 once and solo queue was horrible, in combination with the worse teammates it was nearly unplayable

Chase and stealth perks for survivors are much more fun to me, but they're too weak if you play "competitively" (winning every game instead of just having fun). For example the ideas of Fixated or Dance with me are great, but too often those perks have stupid cooldowns or conditions. Iron Will is great but it wouldn't be meta if it has a cooldown or condition like "works only after you have been 60 seconds in the killer radius". Those conditions make these perks gimmicky, DS, Unbreakable, SG or Adrenaline are also situational but when they come into effect they are extremely powerful and sometimes game changing. If you want survivors to use other perks, make them more powerful, reduce or delete cooldowns and conditions. Iron Will is a good example, it's not game breaking but a solid perk that will have it's use nearly every game.

  • RizeAki
    RizeAki Member Posts: 1,209

Those are meant to be in the game you will never learn how to play if you use crutches to fix mistakes. But idc what survivors run I run them myself just in case it’s a spirit or something where skill doesn’t matter. I’m more asking bhvr to do something to change things around.

Unfortunately until DS and UB are nerfed the meta will never change. The devs still have the mindset that second chances on the survivor side are healthy for the game. Yea desperate measures isn't meta but it shows that they're fine with adding more second chances/perks that help when survivors are screwing up.

So for the rest of the games life its going to (most likely) be:

    • Exhaustion perk (preferably DH)
    • DS
    • UB
    • BT, Camaraderie, IW, SG, Adrenaline.

Imma be fully honest though I absolutely HATE the ruin + undying meta now. Id much rather have corrupt + pop be "the meta build" because at least that didn't rely on luck from both sides.

  • BaldursGate2
    BaldursGate2 Member Posts: 994

That's a thing, because of this meta. It's a cycle, that will never end, if they don't take the first step to nerf any side first.
