You should PLAY the killer before complaining about them
More people need to start doing this, the amount of arguments I've seen about a killer due to the lack of experience they have against them/playing as them is insane.
It's obvious I'm mainly referring to deathslinger here, but this also applies to hag, PH, etc, you know them killers.
Just before I get called out, this does NOT mean I'm trying to say "Oh you're just bad against X killer, git gud". Some killers have some mechanics that are annoying, in fact every killer has something that can be deemed annoying, I hate michael and pig, the killers that are seen as the most "fun" in the game.
But do not complain about something that is caused by your lack of experience playing as or against the killer.
And even, if a killer is annoying you, play that killer and see if you find anything such as strategies, that could help against said annoying mechanic. Don't assume that you're some survivor god who knows everything and all possible outcomes against that killer, as it's likely that there's a main of that killer that knows 100x more than you.

this is more of a life lesson then anything else, dont judge or talk about something when you have no clue about it.

Definitely. 100%. People should walk a mile in the other guy/gal's shoes before passing judgement.

Amen!

I did this and people still complained to me that I didn't "understand the killer".
People's obvious personal biases aside though, this is true for ANY part of the game. People who play both sides not only know the struggles of both, but CAN compare them and make appropriate calls.
Sadly though, there are people who then call them "entitled [other side] mains" for pointing out the other side of the story.

75% of Deathslinger complaints would be resolved by people taking the time to play him. Especially since crossplay has been out. I'm on PC and a lot of console players are straight up bulletproof. Like the harpoon has a 25% chance of actually registering. I had an Ace do the motion like he had been hit twice in a row without it actually registering, and I had 40ms ping. But apparently Slinger can quickscope and automatically hit everyone.

And vice versa.
4 -
We're all guilty of this. I though the undying ruin tinker combo was overwhelming as survivor, but playing killer you just see how rng can mess with you
6 -
I'm guilty of that exact thing lmao.
1 -
I've had many a killer thank me for being an actual challenge not because I was using SB/Adrenaline/DS/etc but because I knew the killer and had unique ways of countering or avoiding them
1 -
Waddabout people that played the killer in question and still think they're op? Do you fall back on the "potatos" defense?
6 -
both sides are hard solo and weak killer then you got the cakewalk game playing swf and Op killers and addon I don't know if there anyway to fix this at all.
0 -
I was more talking about killers that are found "annoying", eg people say that deathslinger has lots of lose lose situations yet these situations can be mostly avoided by forcing a 50/50. Anybody who has played deathslinger a decent amount knows this.
But yea, it can be used to see if a killer is OP. If they still think they're OP then they need to go against actual good survivors.
2 -
You hate the boogeyman do ya? He will remember that. After he is done with laurie you next.
2 -
can I just say that I really hate playing against killers? Why can't I just fix these generators in peace and leave with the satisfaction of a job well done. it's not fair that someone is going to walk up and stab me in the face when all I'm trying to do is help the entity turn it's lights back on.
*Starbucks is the proud sponsor of this sarcasm
6 -
Wait, so when I 4ked on billy with ######### perks he wasn't op?
4 -
I played slot of deathslinger albeit I'm not the best but it really isnt hard. His built in zoning makes sending chases super easy. On top of that animation locks are free spears. Quick shots are the hardest part but arent impossible and actually not difficult to preform.

You hate Myers?
big mad >:-(
1 -
Don't worry
He knows about him now. After Laurie he is next
2 -
That's a game issue not the actually power. If we were to forget about bugs. Any average slinger could hit quickscopes consistently.
0 -
My problem with Deathslinger is that he has a very small terror radius, especially if you pair it with Monitor + Abuse. Which means a LOT of Deathslingers just camp.
0 -
Thanks for all your help man, if it wasn't for you the entity's realm would be very scary
0 -
It's really not that simple if a survivor actively juking left and right at range. It's a pretty fine hitbox. Not a high percentage shot
2 -
I'm a main survivor and I play as killers to under stand them but doctor is op it's to easy to find people with him and its pain in the butt for me its hard to get away from him. There's no counter perk. He can make people scream fare away it takes up a good part of the map so doctor needs to be nerfed or his character needs to be replaced with a killer with similar ability but balance and not so op
1 -
Ok so now you are closing distance on them because they lose forward momentum. See how poorly designed his power is? If you dodge he gains distance, if you dont he shoots you instantly. It also isnt even a 50/50 since he has to sit and react.

I play all killers. Free licence to whine weeeeeee!
5 -
Either way don't like how survivors just ask for a straight nerf for him. Atleast suggest somewhere he can buffed in exchange for losing his "zoning" or insane 1v1s. Eg: giving him better map pressure. As he is right now, he's still a C tier killer as far as meta goes.
2 -
In fairness you should play against a killer too before defending them.
Case in point old Freddy. Fun to play as, tiresome to play against. For me Ghostface is in the same situation.

Noone needs to play killer to understand their mechanics. I basically played near to a thousand hours before even touching killers and nothing new came to me after playing killer. This "argument" lacks all logic.
0 -
That explains a lot.
You can't learn a killers complex mechanics from purely playing against them, it's impossible. Demo can hit shreads that I never even imagined, nurse needs to consider many more situations than I thought, and pyramid isn't as busted as I imagined him. A lot can come from playing the killer.

Weren't you one of the people complaining about the Pyramid Head "nerf" before the PTB went live?
1 -
Deathslinger is my second main and I have never had an issue with this.

His hits being inconsistent doesn't do anything about the core complaints with him, which is the ability to zone. Idc if the Deathslinger misses because the game is trash or because he can't aim. I care that I have very limited ability to do anything about it myself unless the killer is bad.

Yes.
But not just as the killer but also against the killer, not once not twice but like hundreds of times. In other games it is so common to do this and here most get drowned by yelling of op.

If you had played slinger you would realise that it's borderline impossible to hit an unpredictable strafing survivor. If he's not constantly strafing then he's only moving at key locations forcing a 50/50.
2 -
The Killers that get complained about are typically whichever ones Otz puts on his S tier list this month.
Playing them, not playing them, playing against them or not playing against them don't have much to do with it.
Oh, and Deathslinger. Because, yes, apparently everyone hates Ole' Limpy. Me, I just wish there was a skin for him in Red Dead Redemption 2.

I am trying to play killer as much as possible but I gotta admit, it really is discouraging as a newer player to sit on the other side of the map when the gates are opened, knowing you lost because you couldn't get your momentum, and they sit there for the entire timer.
I'm standing in the corner on the other side of the map because I have displeased the entity. Stop making my life worse, you jerks! I'm already going to get hentai'ed later as it is. Have you not seen Blair witch? You should know what to do when you see someone standing in a corner! Run tf away!

Lol old age will get him before Myers gets Laurie

I had a daily pop up for Myers and thought, let's give it a go. Played with scratched mirror add-on and had such a blast my neighbors could probably hear my joyous cackling 🤣

Very true. I've been trying to play both sides of late and it's really bad on both and I know it. Just had a game where I kept getting blinded while kicking a pallet. I'm not even looking at the flashlight and it works. you want toxic play that's pretty bad not to mention the tea bagging survivors. Sure I'm not the best killer in the game but I don't play like an #########. Typical DBD community. play toxic because you can. Both sides do it. I try not too and it's frustrating

The best way to really find out if there's "counterplay" to a killer is to play one into the red ranks. Pick one that you really hate. Then keep playing it and see if you can spot the survivors that make every chase miserable. Watch what they do. Record the match. Take notes. Become that survivor.
If you never encounter such a survivor (hence why being deep into red ranks is important) then you may have found an overpowered killer. But trust me, you'll find them.

I would go further than that and say play both sides, to truly understand how each side works.

We agree for once clicky!

So since I main Pyramid Head I'm allowed to complain about his lose/lose and how I'm really really glad he got changed to be a lot more skill and prediction based?
Thanks man! :D

If a survivor is strafing, walk up and M1 them. The main complaint with Deathslinger is that he puts you in a lose/lose that's very similar to PH unless you happen to start your chase at a very strong tile. If you dodge, you lose a lot of distance and he walks up and M1s you. If you don't dodge, he shoots you in the back. Deathslinger can just spam ADS a few times to see what the survivor is going to do; it's not like there's just a 50/50 between dodge/no dodge.
0 -
His hitbox for his harpoon is tiny, you only need to constantly strafe a bit. Not like huntress where you're strafing like you're trying to dodge a mini van. He's 110% speed, so you should be able to get to the next pallet despite your movement inconsistencies.
He cannot "react", I have no clue where people are getting this from. Survivor strafe speeds are so fast and his hitbox is so small he cannot react to survivor movement period. He either baits, or doesn't bait. He doesn't suddenly shoot when he's baiting because the survivor didn't move.
See this is a pretty clear defining factor between people who do play slinger and don't. He doesn't "react", ever unless a potato survivor vaults in front of him.

- Phantasms triggered: 3,560
- While speared: 582
- Cages of atonement: 81
(and I don't cage, I save for mori)
All three need changes.

I highly recomend spine chill. So aside from the fact that it gets around cheeky M&A builds myers hag etc. Spine chill can alert you to stealth tinkerer killers and aware you if the spirit whilst phased is still heading your direction. Yea its crappy to name a perk as a counter but I do think spine chill is under utilized.
If the slingers range wasn't so bad and his capacity of one shot wasn't so awful I'd agree with his tr being increased but he has so many problems I wish when they get around to looking at him its not just the legion, pig treatment where they straight nerf his ass to unplayability.

Idk about that, I have seen people get beaten with canes before lol

I love scaring the ######### out of people on this game. Usually when I play streamers they are always on edge because I run dead rabbit M/A which means I virtually have no terror radius unless I'm right on your trail. Only issue is OoO is god tier against this build and spine chill negates the suprise effect
