Why do (seemingly) so many players skip the tutorial?

Streamer: fast enters a locker while running.

Also Streamer: “HOW DOES THE KILLER KEEP FINDING ME IN LOCKERS?!?!”

I mean, for Streamers, it is probably too boring to watch someone doing the Tutorial. But overall, could be entirely possible that they just forgot. I know for sure that I did not know at the start that fast-vaulting makes noise. And a friend of mine who did play the Tutorial (he only played like 2 hours of DBD total) did not know that he has to struggle when hooked the second time. Even if he just did it like 10 minutes ago in the Tutorial.

If they’re not prepared to do the tutorial already presented to them from the main menu screen, they’re unlikely to be the kind of person that expends energy hunting YouTube.

And yes, as inadequate as the in-game tutorial is, it still covers things that will give killers a notification.

They don't have to stream the tutorial, they can just play it on their own time.

    It is garbage.

But it at least let’s survivors know what will give the killer a location notifier.

They might be choosing not to because they don't think they need to or to make it scarier for themselves.

Despite there being a great big box saying “help & tutorials” next to the big boxes for “play as survivor” & “play as killer”?!?!

They should update the tutorial so that it matches that of the DBD Mobile tutorial, with adding extra stuff such as totem cleansing, flashlight saving and more.

well, in my case that would be because it got added when i already far exceeded the 1k hours ingame, so i didnt really feel like i needed it anymore.

though im gonna keep that slow entering lockers trick in mind, that sounds like a good idea :)

As others have already stated, dead by daylight desperately needs a practice mode. The tutorial is a joke as it barely scratches the surface of what survivors and Killers need to know.

To be perfectly honest the only reason I stuck with this game is because I had friends to play with, and if it wasn't for them teaching me the ropes I would have dropped this game like a bad habit. The last thing I want to do is to be thrown straight into matchmaking on a game that doesn't teach you how to play, or give you the tools necessary to practice. At the very least games like call of duty have a single player mode that you can warm up with before jumping online to compete against other players. It's a shame DBD can't say the same.

Well a lot of it now comes down to how outdated the tutorial is it doesn’t mention most of the game mechanics

While yes tutorial does mention a lot of these things it's not exactly the best tutorial in the world.

At someone stated previously in this thread they really need to implement a practice mode ( no kill your friends does not count)

It has to be a practice mode you could do solo and learn the survivor basics and how to use killer powers.

    For survivors

    Skill check practice

Loop practice with a pretty basic bot

    Possible stealth practice.

For Killers a practice session for each power.

For example you can program some survival bots to run around an area so you can practice huntress hatchets.

Or a mini terrain course to practice of blight bouncing

Granted some powers are not going to be practice friendly Trapper Wraith plague but still

These practice sessions could also be used to help people get a feel for a killer and see if they want to actually purchase it or not

Can you play a game against bots or only text? First one would be really helpfull for practicing loops, but text is just not necessary, the game is pretty much selfexplained.

The tutorial isn't the best, you'll have to put in hours to know everything. And too many people only play one side; that seriously impairs your overall knowledge.

I feel like they should give tutorials for each individual killer, or at least a practice mode to try out the killer before you plan on buying it, because why waste your money when you don't know the killer in question could be bad and not for you.

There’s both text tutorials and help, and playable tutorials for survivor and killer.

The playable ones are bare bones, covering an absolute minimum.

The text help though is mostly very good.

That could potentially hurt BHVR financially. Just look at past PTB’s and initial reception of some killers. Initial impressions are usually not positive, with Deathslinger, Spirit, and Blight of particular note. These are killers that are viewed as quite good, but it took time for opinions to reach there. A try before you buy approach would have hurt this DLC’s immensely and we would most likely not be seeing any of those killers online.
