A list of disappointments of 4.3.0
Let me list all disappointments people had this patch. Feel free to add more if I miss some. Of course there weren't only disappointments and the patch had a lot of positive and cool things, however let's discuss negative stuff here.
- No event currency or free way to get halloween skins
- Never Stop Slashing not having mask animations despite the fact it is possible to implement such (look at Oni f/e) and is missing a lot of details from the sketch everybody voted for (like colour of the coat)
- Spirit shadownerf
- Discordance needless nerf + dumb distance requirement to force people tier up the perk
- Discordance nerf was made as a surprise and wasn't listed in PTB patchnotes, so people didn't have an opportunity to give any feedback on its changes.
- Console framerate issues
- Killer's event addon is event only, but survivor's ones could be used even after event expires.
- Macmillan maps generation is bugged.
- Groaning storehouse borderline OP window
- Shelter woods are still shelter woods
- Thanatophobia phobia nerfed more than buffed
- We are going to live forever having less amount of ways to earn tokens (Head On saves don't give tokens f/e)
- Pyramid head nerf that horribly crippled him and his camera
Killer having weird models and animations when spawning in the trial- Tome gives less points for rift progression

I thought the survivor addon was also event time only.

I get the feel that last one was like an unexpected bug the developers saw at the last minute. The fact that they mentioned it in the patch gives me the impression that they threw their hands up and said "F* it! Just push the patch through, we'll get to that next week." Which just makes me laugh out of entertainment haha!
Some personal thoughts, the Pyramid Head nerf isn't that bad. Annoying yes, what's funny is that I feel the changes weren't enough. You can still trick survivors to avoid committing to Rites of Judgement to get that free hit in, or just use the power to knock em down a health state. Still don't understand the reasoning for the nerf, because his power is effective? Just feels like an excuse to nerf more good killers and ignore the ones in need of a buff.
Console frame rates are definitely kicking in. I own an xbox one x, if i get the series x and still this game isn't 60 frames or well optimized then behavior has a big problem.
I would also like to add that "breakable walls" are utilized as an excuse to provide infinite loops to survivors. Oh gees, without bamboozle I have to vault the window or turn left and break this wall, either option giving them enough time/distance regardless so it's a win/win for them. These aren't breakable walls, they're duct tape on doorways. Y'all ever played Left For Dead online? As the infected, you can break walls in buildings and houses, my memory is a bit fuzzy cuz its been a while but in that game you can break actual walls. A good example of how that could be implemented would be in the Ironworks map, the infinite vault has a hole in the wall next to it, which reduces its efficiency while in a chase for Survivors. How about implementing that for breakable walls? Give it a glowing cracked symbol to show it can be broken, make it a bit more subtle so that Survivors are caught by surprise, and then switch them around the way pallets are switched around in each play.
I don't know, they just feel disappointing to me. Breakable walls shouldn't feel like you have to break this else face the infinite loops, it should feel like something terrifying for the Survivors and satisfying for the Killer. Make the walls open new paths in maps, not the old doorways that we had before. Make the material of the wall be different than wood, like bricks for example and give it the sound of crumbling rocks when broken. Just be creative, I felt like this idea was fun but the execution was a half measure to the extreme.
The rest of your list I agree with, this game has a lot of issues and hreed is slowly rising to the top with each update. Better skins? Ten dollars! New even? Tin dollahs! New map?! TEHN DAWLAWS!! You get the idea lol. Just bites that EVERYTIME someone asks for improvement, they get so much backlash from the community itself. If we can't agree with anything, then we have ourselves to blame for this mess.

- lack of bonus BP compared to previous events.
28 -
The only...ONLY good thing about this event is that they brought back nurses Halloween skin. Bhvr stopped being greedy ######### for once...kinda.
3 -
Yep,you get like 3000 points per event generator/hook with the offering. That's nothing.
Should have been at least 5000 tbh.
5 -
- Never Stop Slashing not having mask animations despite the fact it is possible to implement such (look at Oni f/e) ...
Oni's face doesn't change expressions, it just adds some fire/flare effects around his head and eyes. (I'm assuming they ran into an issue with Legion's mask actually having a different expression at different times.)
- Spirit shadownerf
It's obviously a bug, not an intentional nerf.
- Discordance needless nerf + dumb distance requirement to force people tier up the perk
I get what they're trying to do, people were intentionally running Discordance Rank 1 because it was better than Rank 3. This new version is probably fine at Rank 3 although the 98 meter range is just slightly short. They should just make Rank 3 have unlimited range honestly.
- Thanatophobia phobia nerfed more than buffed
Thanatophobia is buffed for killers against whom survivors didn't heal much in the first place. For example, survivors often don't heal against Legion, which meant the healing penalty had no impact and thus this is a buff in those situations (you're getting the extra gen slow down and never got the benefit from the healing slowdown to begin with.)
1 -
They messed up pyramid head you can instantly M1 after full charge of power. Otz posted a vid about it. So until they properly fix PH im gonna be kinda upset. I wanted to see the new PH not see him with the same issue if you time it right
0 -
Iridescent shards are a free way to get 4/6 of the new skins
Never Stop Slashing not having mask animations despite the fact it is possible to implement such (look at Oni f/e) and is missing a lot of details from the sketch everybody voted for (like colour of the coat)
Its a acknowledged sound bug which might actually become a feature to make spirit have to actually play the game
Discordance was a weird one I will give you that
Their main focus was and still is pc, but right now they are planning a head and working on next gen
Just because its event only now doesn't mean that isn't subject to change if community feedback is strong enough, such as plundering ultra rare items from chests or keeping bloody party streamers and escape cakes/pudding
Macmillan maps generation is bugged. They can only play so many matches with their small team of course if you generate a map a million times rather than 20-30 there can be bugs
Groaning storehouse borderline OP window, just drop chase or pick a killer with a power or perks that plays around it
Shelter woods are still shelter woods, thats the design they want if they wanted to add more to the map they would have
Thanatophobia phobia nerfed more than buffed ok, the idea was to still incentives survivors to heal having a perk that is slowdown on top of slowdown is a bit much
We are going to live forever having less amount of ways to earn tokens (Head On saves don't give tokens f/e) this one is a weird one they scuffed it a bit but having a secondary effect finally is nice
Pyramidhead nerf that horribly crippled him and his camera, oh no pyramid head has to actually play the game now, at least they made his power faster which lets you try more interesting plays
Killer having weird models and animations when spawning in the trial this doesn't even affect gameplay it just shows what the first person model actually looks like from 3rd person which is more interesting then anything harmful
most of these complaints are honestly just nitpicking to try and complain about something
3 -
I agree with pretty much all this, just people complaining about mostly nothing when the devs have handed out like half a million BP in codes in the last month or something. The killer load in bug I find pretty funny, and it impacts nothing. Console performance has always been trash, nothing new there.
The only complaints I have are a few fat shame areas on the macmillan maps and that even when I am attempting to farm I can't get enough petals to offer one every game because the spots are taken up by the dash add-ons in many cases.
0 -
Also Breakdown is broken, it wont break the event hooks :(
1 -
Do you refer to Behavior as m'lady, too? Because that amount of white knighting, I just, I can't even.
"most of these complaints are honestly just nitpicking to try and complain about something" Most of your responses are just white knighting to try to white knight about something.
21k shards isn't "free". That's the cost of two full characters +. That's time investment. That's 200 hours in a game. That's $1720 dollars working minimum wage. Get out of here with that "free way".
They don't need you to shill for them, they have a marketing team. And honestly, with that response, that's all you're actually doing, Mr. Shillly Shill White Knighterson.

The Visceral Cankers take a really long time to harvest. It’s extremely boring and turns the game into even more of an M1 simulator.
The animation for harvesting Cankers is just the old gen repair animation.
2 -
I believe they nerfed Discordance because of Undying + Ruin + Tinker. Adding Discordance made it almost impossible for survivors to progress in gens as information was presented all the time from a survivor soloing a gen or survivors doing gens together.
Discordance didn’t need a nerf but sadly it got one.

to make things simpler, here is a list of things I liked from this update:
The skins look niceoh wait, you have to buy them9 -
You summed it up a lot better than I did!
Oh, wait, I got one. Posting on the forums with other people that are as bummed as I am, because it's almost as fun if not more fun than DBD right now.
5 -
If you only play survivor, that's truly a good thing. I play both sides, so i realise that spirit is like B tier with this nerf.
3 -
It costs a chapter and a half to get a full set for 1 character
3 -
Feels more like death by a thousand cuts.
If that's how you spin the negatives, then I'd love to see you run down of the benefits implemented these last few days that everyone should be celebrating instead.
What sort of improvements and festivities here are meant to inspire anyone to really show their own appreciation to BHVR by happily investing yet another $20 into this game for two seasonal outfits versus, for example, rolling the dice with the same funds to pick up 1 & 1/2 copies of Phasmophobia?
Its like the devs have no understanding of opportunity cost or elasticity.
5 -
EA and Activision are offering more Halloween content in their SHOOTY-SHOOTER games than DBD is in their HALLOWEEN game. A bunch of it free, too. You know, as incentives to play the game. DBD offers no incentives to play their HALLOWEEN GAME during the Halloween season.
When EA and Activision are giving players more free stuff AND incentives to play during the Halloween season than DBD is, there's a problem.
Events are helpful for both the developers and the players. Generally, the developers create an event so that it sparks an interest for the game during the season for the players, which in turn lays the foundation for retention amongst the playerbase they're trying to sell a product to. That's business 1-0-1 in gaming, BHVR. What. are. you. doing?
I generally haven't had any problems paying money in DBD because I liked the game. I've bought multiple different outfits for Kate, and bought a full set for Legion like a week and a half ago. I've always lived by the idealogy that if I like a game, and if the developers create content I like, I'll kick money to them because I like the game. But now? I'm really sort of soured on the game as a whole.
If a game creates an event, and the entire event is "give us your money, that's your event." Why would I give you money? You're not balancing creating content for all players and trying to make the game better while keeping market shares profitible, or even trying to drive up player retention. You're making a short-sighted money grab.
You're selling the soul of the game, built on the goodwill of your playerbase from the last 4 years, for short term profit, DURING HALLOWEEN LOLOLOLOL.
Learning from history is a pretty good lesson; I think we all know where this is going.

What happened to Spirit?
0 -
The majority of players are likely on Console.
There should not be loops that you cannot chase around else you lose the match. These are called "god loops" or "infinites" and should not be in the game.
Thana already wasn't good, I get that they need to balance it with other slowdown perks in mind, but seriously, it got nerfed.
2 -
You forgot that they basically gutted the fence outside of the school on pre-school. I'd just like to know why. That "tile" wasn't even that strong, especially after the breakable wall on the side got added.
0 -
You can't sabo event hooks.
2 -
from what i have seen from playing you can cancel the charge up with an m1 but the moment its fully charged you have to commit to the range attack or get punished for canceling it. he still has his mind game in a way but the whole vault and i hit you with my power or don't and i get a free m1 is not as good as it once was and that is what the survivors were complaining about
0 -
Whats wrong with Spirit, like what was nerfed
0 -
Oni’s model changes on all of his cosmetics when he uses his power

Otz already showed how they straight up buffed ph because you can still do it

who needs PGTW when you have PGJSF

Receive less rift fragments from challenges in this tome so you have to grind even more for the one Halloween skin on this rift.
0 -
Add shadownerf to maps that weren't revamped. I think the old pallet spawns on each map is out the window as maps can spawn with massive deadzones and a gen plunked smack dab in the middle of it all. Nice patchnotes, devs.
1 -
No I mean with the proper time you can do it instantly if not close enough, watch otz video, and if you go shack and they bait they either medium vault and possibly get hit or go through shack pallet and drop it. I haven't faced a PH yet, but from what I've seen it seems like its still the same scenario.

im not white knighting im speaking as a voice of reason because as far as I have seen within the past 3 days everyone is upset over every little hicup and ignore anything good they have done because of it.

Its a strong loop probably wastes about 40 seconds before you get a hit but its no where near old god loops

This content has been removed.

This event sucks a$$ to be honest. It is so boring I'm not even grinding anything like the cakes during 4th anniversary, cause it's simply not worth it.

At least the shadow spirit nerf was good even if it might be a bug. Although ive been told that you are supposed to be able to hear spirits groans and footsteps while phasing and honestly i would be suprised if a bug like that existed for over 2 years.
Either way shes still S tier and just feels more fair now
0 -
yes thats how arguing points work, I literally addressed all of his points of complaint
it would probably take a few hundred hours, still technically free, I got 2 skins
0 -
I would disagree with three things out of the list and I actually have videos to support why on two of them.
"Spirit Shadow Nerf"
Spirit has had something like this coming for a long while now. Intentional or not, this really isn't a bad change and finally introduces legitimate counterplay for a killer that has had extremely limited if any counterplay at all. Spirit has always had all the information whereas survivors have had none, so the ability for survivors to intermittently hear a directional audio cue (which the spirit can EASILY use to her advantage) is something that is actually extremely healthy for the game. Scott Jund does a way better job at explaining this than I do though and he does it in about five minutes:
"Thanatophobia nerfed more than buffed"
This I disagree with from personal experience. I was on yesterday and I saw some truly disgusting and unfun builds come from the new Thanatophobia. Mostly / most especially from three killers: Legion, Plague, and Oni.
Almost everyone I went up against was running some combination of Thana, Ruin, Dying Light, Undying, or sometimes all of the above, and it's not like these are the only disgusting synergies there are plenty more that I know of and I'm sure more that I am not yet aware of. Thanatophobia and Ruin by themselves are a huge synergy after the change where now thanatophobia also affects TOTEM speeds. So it also serves as a totem protector perk now, so you've got slower gen. repair speed, increased regression, and then slower totem cleansing to protect Hex: Ruin providing that increased regression.
On top of a killer that can consistently keep you injured like Legion who can undoubtedly injure all four survivors in the shortest amount of time or Plague who can keep survivors injured because of the broken status effect (or get free corrupt purge, the most aggressive damaging killer ability in the entire game) and you're literally a powerhouse. In my personal opinion, not in a good "oh man this guy is doing a great job at applying pressure and he's powerful because of it" kind of way but in bad a "he's basically receiving free pressure due to the nature of his ability and the borderline unbalanced synergy of the perks he's running" kind of way.
And that's only two perks, HALF the loadout and you're already incredibly strong. Add Hex: Undying to the mix and not only will you be slower at cleansing Hex: Undying because of Thana which now synergizes with all Hex: perks, but Hex: Undying Protects ruin and can keep the train going for the entire game. Thana protects -> Hex: Undying protects -> Hex: Ruin. Add Dying Light to the mix and it can be nearly impossible to repair generators against a killer that's applying even a mediocre amount of pressure.
Synergy is good. But this is just too much.
"Pyramid Head nerf that horribly crippled him and his camera"
This I absolutely disagree with. Pyramid Head is light years away from being crippled and saying so is honestly deliberately misleading. If anything, the Pyramid Head change was a misguided attempt to fix a legitimate issue (free downs under threat of either M1 or POD is blatantly unbalanced, and not fun. Fight me.) but they went about it completely the wrong way and I would go so far as to say this was actually a shadow BUFF.
Not only did they not fix the problem they set out to change (you can still fake Trail of Torment and then cancel the animation switching to M1 thus resulting in the same problem previously, the only thing the change accomplished was change the timing which is something players can easily adapt to) but they buffed how quickly you recover from POD, an attack that literally ignores all collision and obstacles and is much easier to hit by comparison to other ranged attacks (like Deathslinger's Redeemer or Huntress's Hatchets) because you're only aiming on a horizontal axis.
All this does is it's going to ENCOURAGE Pyramid Head players to spam Punishment Of The Damned as often as possible. Hit or miss it doesn't matter since the cooldown is absolutely ridiculously quick. The distance a survivor gains after either is absolutely negligible and they are put in danger of being hit again almost immediately. Even more so if Pyramid Head has that survivor pressed against a loop in a corner with nowhere really to run all he has to do is keep. spamming. POD. The devs basically made Pyramid Head less skillful to play as, less fun to play against, and even more unbalanced than he was before, because now not only does he still have the same tool he did before of free downs under threat of M1 or POD with an animation cancel, but he has quicker recovery from Punishment of the Damned, an aggressive chase tool that was ALREADY powerful to begin with.
It's impossible to conceive that Pyramid Head was nerfed at all, even SLIGHTLY. To prove this, Otzdarva makes the exact same point during a match he played yesterday of the new Pyramid Head that lasted less than 10 minutes:
I want to make clear I wholeheartedly agree with every single other point made on the list. Not bringing back the time-limited event currency of the Putrid Serum and removing the entire aspect of the ability to earn rewards also removes any motivation to actually play during the event itself. THE ARCHIVES DO NOT SUBSTITUTE FOR ACTUAL EVENTS @DEVS. The eternal blight is arguably the worst event of the three blight events and that's absolutely impressive considering the negative reception and backlash the Withering Blight was, and it's arguably the worst event in the entire history of DBD.
Not to mention, if that statement is true this means that the Blight events have been progressively getting WORSE every single year, first being undoubtedly the best, most engaging, most fun, most immersive, with the best story, the best music, the best theme and atmosphere, best decorated lobby, etc. The second being a clear downgrade with little theme and atmosphere, no change in gameplay, after the removal of the visceral cankers being substituted with reskinned generators (this is no more FUN than normal gameplay nor is it INTERESTING), the story and lore was lackluster serving only to seemingly wrap up the story arch of the Alchemist rather than expand and / or answer the mystery of the Blight itself, but at the very least the Withering Blight still provided a goal to work toward. The Eternal Blight brings back the beloved visceral cankers, but removes all motivation to chase them down and harvest them since they are only worth bloodpoints and all ties to a reward system for them have been completely cut with the removal of the vial you would fill with Putrid Serum. With no rewards to work for, there is no Blight event, there are only reskinned generators (which are functionally NO different from normal generators) and visceral cankers which are absolutely worthless.
I always said the Never Stop Slashing cosmetic never had any technical limitations, that was clearly a pure and blatant lie and evidence can be seen throughout the entire game. The original premise of the cosmetic is supposed to change based on different actions and conditions (that's what MADE the cosmetic cool, that's WHY people voted for it) when the legion activates feral frenzy, the Mask changes expression when the Legion is stunned the expression changes, when the legion Mori's the expression changes again, etc. so on and so forth. OP provides the example of the entire character of the Oni, whose entire BODY changes when Yamoaka's Wrath, but not only this the perk Spirit Fury activates when a certain condition is met. When a pallet is dropped on you the pallet breaks immediately, how is that technically any different from making a mask change expression when a pallet stun occurs? The Blight has two different stun animations, when you're stunned with a pallet he raises his arm in defense, when he's stunned with head-on, he leans against his cane, HOW is this functionally any different. The answer: IT'S NOT.
Discordance nerf was absolutely needless. I agree. Not only that but doing this behind the community's back completely strips away the purpose of the PTB to begin with, to test out different changes and provide feedback.
Killers event item being time limited for the event but not the survivor equivalent absolutely displays a bias and double standard, the SAME double standard we already saw when Pop Goes the Weasel was nerfed but Decisive Strike (which is most definitely far more unbalanced) still hasn't been changed. Regardless of whether or not the Pop nerf was warranted, and regardless of whether or not it was an impactful change that really affected the viability of the perk, it's about the principle. In both situations the event add-ons and the perk changes, survivors are held up to a different standard, while killers get the shaft.
Etc. So on and so forth. I truly could go on and on about what makes this update and this event so frustrating, but I'm going to force myself to put a cork in it at least for this comment because it's getting too long.

-Halloween event is just a cosmetic release
-MacMillan is now extremely immersed and some of the already strong windows are now god loops unless you break a wall (remember when the addition of breakable walls was supposed to HELP Killers?)
-The Perk changes designed to "shake up the meta" completely failed because almost all of them are still outclassed by the current meta (it's almost like nerfing the meta should take priority over buffing non-meta Perks)
-Except WGLF which is straight busted now, you basically cannot slug if someone brings this Perk into the match
-They didn't actually add new ways to gain WGLF tokens even though they explicitly said they would
-Blight is still cursed with crotch cam
-Pop was nerfed
-Pyramid Head is bugged to hell and back
-Any Means Necessary is still trash
-Thanatophobia was nerfed
-Discordance was nerfed

B-b-but you can buy them with shards! They only cost more than two full characters!

40+ seconds. I have found that you can usually break chase on it, therefore, the window doesn't get blocked.
But yes, it isn't nearly as bad as the old god loops or infinites. That doesn't mean it should be here though.
0 -
sounds like you just aint doing it right
0 -
Of course nobody says it's infinite, yet it wastes unacceptable amount of time for m1 killers. It's like old ironworks main window - counterable, but survivors still waste a lot of yours time in it
0 -
The bad negatives are so overpowering, that anything positive that the devs could have done past fixing what they've done incorrectly flew by me.
Missed opportunity indeed :,(

I've only ever been chased around it, I've not had to chase through it.
