Seeing people accept their "apology" worries me about the future of this game
Seriously, have you all never played the previous events? Before, you have alternate objectives such as gathering serum which could then be spent on cosmetics. Now, you have 3x Rift challenges that allow to get a measly 4k BP, and that's it aside from pumpkin gens and hooks. Replacing a fun, engaging event currency with a credit card is disgusting, and BHVR knew full-well what they were doing when they made it. This "apology" is just a response to attempt to appease people when their shot at skimming players for more money didn't fully pan out.
This is the same thing with Sets, they started out slow and continued to ramp them up when they saw they were profitable, if people happily accept a few shards and BP as compensation for the gutting of a previously enjoyable time, then the game will continue to deteriorate into a MTX hellscape.
This is a horror-esque game, yet COD and WoW have better Halloween events than it.
btw this is a company that rakes in money off of skins and the rift already, they aren't some 4 man dev team that deserves to be treated like Jesus Christ himself.

the dead by daylight community deserve more.
let's not be quiet guys and girls!

Actually bhvr is a small indie company, which I'm pretty sure means it's just mcote and like 2-3 other people all living and working in his car. Anyway we need to buy more skins or they'll have no food this Christmas, let alone presents. Or have you no heart, good sir?

It didn't take much huh? Behavior will continue their predatory live services and people will continue to give them a pass. I was hoping this event would be the wake up call

At most, I probably spent $50 on this game when I first purchased it with the Stranger Things bundle and the Freddy and Ghostface add-ons. I haven’t spent a dime on it in a long while, but I did get my money’s worth since I’ve played a lot over a year now.
If they want me to spend money on the shop, they have to give me more bang for my buck, and frankly, their cosmetics are way overpriced. I’d rather spend my money on delicious ribeye steaks and Pumpkin Cheesecake.
When they start to invest to make the game more interesting, I’d be inclined to spend more as well. The devs need to start shaking the game up with more events throughout the year. I want more than just a new coat of paint. During Christmas, the maps should have a coat of snow and ice, and players (both roles) should lose control of their character while they slip and slide all over the place.
In the fall, such as now, there should be fallen leaves on the grounds, with the pumpkins and Jack-o-lanterns and piles of leaves that Killers and Survivors can hide in. If a Kill hides in one, it removes their terror radius to add an extra element of fear for Survivors, while acting as another hiding spot for them.
Since Halloween should be the poster child of events for this game, the devs should have a Halloween themed costume for each character that players can earn by accomplishing challenges that aren’t impossible to do alone and won’t piss off their opponents.
During Spring, the maps should all be a little more fertile with some green grass and a flower here or there. It should rain with puddles on the floor that players can splash through. They could come up with some creepy Easter decor with a special event that involves Killer Bunnies.
Summer time can have a nice yellow atmosphere like the Cowboys map, but also include lava coming out of the ground that hinders players from traversing the maps like they normally do. It should be randomized to not give anyone an advantage. I’d also love a “the floor is lava” event similar to what fortnite did in the past.
I know these things are easier said than done, but it would keep player retention and show the devs actually cared about us and not just our wallets. Unfortunately, this would never happen since they’ll need to revisit their spaghetti code and iron it out in order to introduce better events, and we know they’ll never rewrite the game.

This isn't a triple A company and this isn't a triple A game. Not sure I understand why people keep comparing it to triple A company and games. They are great examples of what they should aim for, but BHVR's DBD player count and funds are not even close to the mentioned games.
4 -
I hate this defense so, so much.
DBD is came out in 2016 and they did a better event 2 years out
If you dont think they aren't swimming in cash from all the MTX's then im not sure what to tell you, they arent some tiny studio who just released their game
58 -
If 600 people work there and what happens now on ps4 still happens after an update...they need to reconsider who is working on this game because this is a joke.
45 -
I'm also disappointed that you only get 3000 points per hook/generator WITH the offering.
Would it hurt them that much to increase it to 5000 :(
8 -
I don’t forgive them cuz they did this last year and got hate for it. They just managed to do it worse this year. And they will do it for the winter event like they also did last year. Only real event we get stuff on I can give them credit for is lunar new year those ones end up being alright.
14 -
doesnt help that people still dont have thier spent shards back
4 -
Lets be fair, the killer addon is the new mechanic this event. Which honestly is fine. But they should have given an event unlockable that they gave away for free next year.
0 -
The damage is already done anyways, released the most pathetic event so far and no changes will ever fix how I see them releasing future events. (Can't wait for the next one to be worse somehow, perhaps they'll paywall most of the skins behind the Battle Pass so you either spend $10 to get the chance to unlock them or get literally nothing at all :^) )
On the bright side I now get rewarded for not even playing DBD with some Shards and Bloodpoints so good job Behaviour on dropping my play time to a literal minute a day for little bit.
Happy "Event" everyone and don't forget they really do appreciate you giving them money for less effort on a reoccurring event.

Subscription games make less than the Freemium/F2P models.
Also, many people like to talk as if this game is bad, when in reality it's beaten out basically all of its competition over the years and continuously improved. There's things the fans and players don't like, but its quality errs out a lot of AAA games already.
If you want a comparison, WoW Classic has been out for ~2 years now, and it's plagued full of botters and a massive disregard from Activision overall. At the same time, they just released a brutally expensive cash shop transmog set for retail. Is that what AAA quality is to you, just because it's under the banner of a AAA company?
2 -
This actually cracked me up
14 -
While I do agree the "event" is poorly executed I feel like this needs to be said: complaining about being given FREE STUFF is a pretty entitled way to think and is really an extremely selfish mind set. Sure they gave more stuff before but they never had to give ANYTHING for free. That being said I am not saying that makes being greedy is okay either just that being upset about only getting one free thing instead of more free things is an extremely childish mind set. You are owed nothing, be grateful for the gift, if you get one at all.
4 -
Oh I haven't excepted any apology. I'd like the actual issues to be fixed. the broken cross play with friends for one and the frame rate on consoles. I know they're aware of them.
I know things take time but these issues are pretty big. I know there are many more but those are the two big ones that effect me.
7 -
Accepting an apology from a repeat offender is just a permission to do it again.
17 -
Who says people have accepted their apology? From what Ive seen its still left a bad taste for most people

Around holidays, game companies compete for players. They run events so that people will play their game rather than a competitor's. They offer rewards (like cosmetics) for playing their event. This is not generosity, it is business. DbD is a horror-related game, so they should have an absolutely amazing Halloween event, because this is their season.
No, BHVR does not have to have a good event, but that just means people will ditch and go play the games with good events. Dying Light's Halloween event hasn't even started yet, but I'm having a blast just earning Double XP right now. And where does my money go? Does it go into DbD's overpriced cosmetics for a game with no real Halloween event? Or do I buy DLC for the game I am playing? (By the way, the new rifle with the silencer in Dying Light is [BAD WORD]ing awesome.)
Events are important for player retention. Sure, DbD players could just say "okay, thanks" for what BHVR has put out but then just not play it because, come on, there are much much better Halloween events going on, and BHVR would have a lot of nice words but no one telling them why they're not seeing the rise in numbers you'd expect for a horror game at Halloween. Or, people can be vocal and tell them that their event isn't good enough so that, rather than just go play a different game, DbD will implement an event the players want to participate in.
14 -
It's only free if your time is worthless. Grinding for petty cosmetics in a manner that is 10x harder than previous years with less fun means they have failed to reach the precedent they themselves have set.
Further, no one is required to like what they put out. They are not entitled to our money, our time, or our praise. Do not be grateful to companies. A company is not a person. Be grateful to your friends and family, not to Behaviour Interactive Inc.
Everyone is completely free to voice their distaste with the continued degradation of quality in a game which we all likely paid money for and continue to pay money for (there's paid chapters every few months with game-changing perks, so you don't pay, you get left behind, or you griiiiiiind for ages unless it's a licensed killer) and a multimillion dollar company does not need Jimmy NoNuts to go to bat for them on their forums.
14 -
The same can be said the other way around:
The devs aren't entitled to my money for making a bad event.
The devs aren't entitled to me staying around to boost their playerbase numbers.
The devs aren't entitled to immunity from criticism when they release a bad product or make endless mistakes in a row.
18 -
They as a company are not owed players, they earn them
This entire event spits in the face of players, but yes, i should be kissing their feet for some table scraps
17 -
While I can sympathize with where you stand I really dislike when people take what I say out of context. I never said kiss their feet, I said adjust your attitude because it comes across as selfish and ungreatful. They aren't owed your support and you aren't owed their development time, time they spent making a cosmetic that they give to you for FREE.
2 -
The fact that people don't boycott the game solely based on their refusal to listen to any feedback is a testament to how much slack the community is willing to cut the developers. I think it's sad that they would do this despite that.
5 -
What should I be grateful for exactly? I already bought the Feng outfit before the sale, got burned, and have nothing to do except login for my daily reward since this “event” is as deep as a puddle
BHVR made this “event,” decided it was good and pushed it, despite what they had as events in the past and knowing the response to last years Halloween event.
they are not deserving of pity points because they decided to bestow upon up lowly players with a few shards and BP
12 -
Dude what?!! They made about 130 million last year from all their mtx alone and it's a team of like 600 they are AAA enough
9 -
a yes, the big companies that are forcing their teams to come to the office to code are so much better for their events than the comparatively small team that has people work from home during covid...
.........
1 -
People will never learn that is the issue tbh. They think oh look we won we got them to change the advent we get stuff now huzzah we won!!
No no you have not the only reason why bhrv is doing this Is because they are losing people fast they need people logging in and playing.
To be honest I got a bad taste in my mouth when they deleted the console frame rate thread. I knew what I deeply feared that this company is no longer the bhrv that once was.
But it doesn't matter only a handful of us won't or haven't been buying skins and more shady things will still go on.
So it is what it is until another game can offer what dbd does they know people will forgive forger and buy.
I have been for while not supporting bhrv with any buying of cosmetics and dlcs. I used to have so much faith things would turn around defended bhvr as well but Sadly that has gone.
🐷💖
7 -
Oh you didn't know? Apparently there won't be a winter event this year.
This can change though, and I hope to dear God it does.
3 -
There'd be no game without the players. They don't have to do anything but players like to feel appreciated.
When that "appreciation" comes in a half-a$$ed event that is worse than the previous two years, the last one which also got back lash for how it was constructed and ran, shows that they don't care about the people who keep the game alive and it shows that they don't learn from past mistakes.
This free stuff people are complaining about? Its free stuff that BHVR is throwing at players hoping it'll appease them.
The players are entitled to something, BHVR still exists because of them. Asking for appreciation isn't even asking for much. Its not that hard but companies make it look like its next to impossible.
I don't even care about the events. They could do none for all I care, but the way BHVR is and has handled the events in the last year is pathetic.
12 -
I don't get why so many players get bent out of shape when a business sells them more optional products for their already paid for product.
You aren't required to buy cosmetics to enjoy the game. We don't -need- extra mechanics to have the fun we already enjoy.
So we got a lackluster freebie this year? Big deal, lol. 2020 has had way worse problems than our collective BPS budget. 🤣
2 -
This is the attitude that lets stuff like this event happen
14 -
But..."happen" is so dramatic. What this all boils down to is folks not liking the quantity/quality of event luxury items.
It's reasonable to be irritated...but to push the needle past irritated into borderline boycott and righteous indignation is supremely silly.
If you don't want it, don't like it, don't need it: don't buy it. That's all. If that happens enough, the profit incentivized business that we treat like billy locked in the basement will notice lol.
Tl;dr- chill bro, they're pixels.
3 -
Accepting minimal effort just let’s the devs get away with stuff like this
sorry that some of us aren’t content with being given garbage charms instead of actual event rewards like before
15 -
I for one won't forget and forgive BHVR for getting some virtual compensation when they're literally screwing up their game in a maddened desire for more money. The game's on a downhill slope and have been for the longest of time. I hope this event wakes people up.
2 -
You can't reason with the interlectually lazy
3 -
That’s what I said there won’t be a winter event same as there wasn’t one last year because of the battle pass
4 -
Yeah. Pretty sure they confirmed no winter event this year. Sad times. 😕

I haven't looked at any statistics to be able to make a judgement about the state of affairs regarding how many people are playing the game, but it sure wouldn't surprise me to see any trend of rapid turnover in playerbase because of how frustrating this game can be and how that issue isn't being deeply addressed.
Ever since the rift released, I've kept in mind the predatory nature of all the pop ups and text forced on the player constantly reminding that the rift exists and will be gone soon (preying on fomo). I honestly think having only one game like this in a somewhat niche genre (horror) as a lifeline for an entire company is bad for both the benefit of the game and the aspirations of a company like BHVR, because while this company will always want more mainstream, more people, more engagement, more money, the game will not move away from needing tender care and an insightful eye on how its original design philosophy should be interpreted for today's horror fans.
sigh
5 -
The main issue is people think oh If I don't support it doesn't matter...it totally does people unless we make a stand things won't improve ps4 is in a terrible state right now I've lost my temper a few times tbh ill probably get banedd for insuring people don't fund bhrv. I am have been wholesome for a reason people do not understand I don't wish to be banned I hope my wholesome attitude respect will save me but love for the game improvements will speak for itself. And I honour those that stand with me!
Why I'm careful here on what I say or what I do but I do all I can to not support bhrv till I see an actual support in console players ability play the game.
As for advents I doubt bhrv will ever return to the game changes as to many complaints and frustration plus to many people will pay to get. We accept the back pedal and saulte them when issues still remain. 😭🐷
It's a broken system broken game but not enough people stand up.. Its a mess and if I'm banned I'm banned 🐷💖 (Kind tried of being held back on what I say tbh)

What's most concerning to me is the inability for some people to accept how others have reacted, and are affectively shaming them into guilt; saying they're easily pleased or simps or other crap.
Personally, the devs have cocked up. Mainly in terms of the cosmic cosmetic blunder, which does belittle those who have saved up for them. Those want justice, and I support them. Does this mean that those who are actually happy with the game and the devs should illogically change their thought process because they have a dìfferent experience? Absolutely not.
If you want a united front, it makes much more sense to use a lot more empathy of the other side amd treat them as equals, and talk on a level field, rather than look down on them as "they're content with mediocrity" or "they're clearly not intellectual". That does nothing, other than damage that cause. It's playground politics.
Those who are like that need to drastically re-evaluate their tactics, otherwise you'll end up creating more resistence and you will lose. People have the right to thiink what they want. If you believe they're missing something, talk to them as an equal, not a neckbeard.
5 -
Halloween should be the one event DBD does amazingly well, they should be putting in maximum effort but the event has got worse over the years. I think the problem is BHVR no longer need to try, the rift gets them to desired engagement, no need to go the extra mile for a seasonal event. Unfortunately, they have forgotten what made Halloween so special in this game.
The sale on the halloween cosmetics and the daily login rewards are nice, I appreciate that and if that is all they could do in response to the feedback then that is fine but this year will go down as another Halloween event wasted. We can only hope they do something special next year.
4 -
I hope this is a joke. From their own site, Behaviour claims to have more than 600 employees. https://www.bhvr.com/about-us/
2 -
I have never made a "joke" in my life, and I have no intention of starting now.
4 -
Being sheeple is what people tend to love, and fundamental change like what we want to happen to BHVR's philosophy requires a significant amount of use to not be sheeple, which is a very big challenge. That's true of most everything tho.
1 -
I refuse to buy ANYTHING from BHVE until they whip themselves into shape. They should be ashamed treating such a loyal fanbase so poorly then try to make up for with a thinly veiled attempt at an apology.
They only did this because of the backlash, not because they actually care.
9 -
I don’t know if it’s been fully confirmed by them and I’m not too sure if what I’m about to say will get removed or not, but I will go ahead and see what happens. In the files it was found that there is no work being done for winter but already work being done on the lunar new year. So this may kinda confirm they are skipping it for new year but we will have to see.
0 -
I've been away for a few days.. where is the apology?
0 -
I'm sorry, but I take issue with the victimhood in this post. Literally no one here gets bullied because they're please, their content is usually followed with an insult of those who are unhappy with the state of the game. A lot of history revisionism here. They are called entitled, whiny, I've seen people go into details as of why DBD's current state will not work for the community in the long run get shut down with "You meanie meanie heads! <3".
One thing I must ask and I am asking you...what are we missing? I'm not coming at you, I am asking a genuine question. What is it about the other side we must empathize about exactly? Disdain towards the criticism of your favorite product? I've been there but I also know to suck it up then move on. What is there to empathize with? No one was able to answer this question. You can be happy with a product then acknowledge that it's in desperate need of a change. There's several people I am still civil with and respect despite our disagreements.
You could say the same about the other side. Threads downplaying the issue and insulting those who are concerned about it, people shaming people for their outrage "Everyone so angry XOXOXO" and if I'm being honest? Yes. A lot of the responses do reek of intellectual laziness. I could understand in game community's woes feeling like a small minority but you're talking about a literal mainstream issue that has been covered in media. Game companies are going to court over these live services. The fact that these do not belong in Dead by Daylight should be as clear as the grass is green. All of it boiled down to entitlement. Naturally people would get annoyed.
Personally I think debating is fine, but it's a waste of time. We're just going to argue in circles. Players need to vote with their wallets. Not that the outrage will do any good, everyone will forget tomorrow. Ironically this is the most this community has ever been united.
3 -
You need to empathise with why people choose what they do. If you see someone who disagrees, getting annoyed with them is a useless tactic. You need to actually understand why people are content. They do not see the faults the same way you do, so saying they're simps or white knights or any other keywords that so happen to be at hand is going to make them strengthen their position even more.
You're asking people to vote with their wallets. Without debate, it's a blind tactic. Only some will do it, whilst people who enjoy the game won't. No debate equals no change.
Also, there is no "victimhood" here. It's a call for people to stop this whole "Oh, you disagree? Well, you are a simp" mentality. Never once did I say this was bullying. It's about mocking and shaming in a vague attempt to change people's minds. I suggest this is something you need to look at yourself and ask yourself "Why did I interpret this post as that". Something clearly struck a chord in you.
