PSA: Play With Your Food has been shadow nerfed
Because this event really couldn't get any more disappointing could it?
For those who don't know, Play With Your Food is an obsession perk that gives you a token every time you lose a chase with your obsession. Each token gives you 5% movement speed and you can have up to 3 tokens at once.
Previously you lost a token when performing a rather ambiguously worded "offensive action". The game selectively decided which action did or did not consume a token. Here's a short list of killer powers and how they interacted with the perk before the latest patch just so you can get an idea of how it used to work.
- Trapper/Hag - No token upon placing a trap or the trap being triggered.
- Nurse - No token consumed when blinking. But attacking after blinking consumes a token.
- Huntress - Throwing a hatchet does consume a token.
- Deathslinger - Shooting the gun doesn't consume a token. But melee'ing afterwards does.
- Legion - Stabbing in Feral Frenzy does consume a token.
- Clown - No token consumed upon throwing a bottle.
- Plague - No token consumed upon vomiting. But vomiting with corrupt purge active will consume a token.
- Blight - No token consumed from initial rush. But every lethal rush afterwards will consume a token, even without attacking.
Baring the odd exception, like Legion's stabbing and Blight's rush, only actions that could directly down survivors consumed a token. This allowed the perk to work fairly well on killer's with utility powers that weren't all that good in comparison to top-tier killers like Nurse or Huntress. Using it was very niche but it was one of my favorite perk combos with Nemesis as I could easily chase my obsession and earn tokens.
But for some incomprehensible reason it has been nerfed to consume a token upon any "basic or special attack". So now the perk's main use in making weak killers just a tiny bit better has been completely removed. It wasn't broken in any way and was only commonly used with Leather Face pre-buff, (because now you lose a token every time you extend the chainsaw rush) and I have no idea why it was changed this way.
I really think the perk should be changed to only remove a token if the killer performs an action that can directly down survivors. This nerf is highly unnecessary and further distils the perk meta by making it more stale.

Wait special attack? So does this include setting traps or shocking survivors?

Thankfully Trapper and Hag still retain tokens when setting traps. I believe Doctor can still shock people without losing tokens. But I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

OK would you mind listing what now does consume tokens then? It sounds like it just any offensive action now so it doesn't seem like it's changed? Maybe I'm missing something

I'll test all of the killer powers currently in the game once I get back home later today.

It really needs a buff. I'm pretty sure Deathslinger loses a stack for the shot AND the hit. I would say it shouldn't lose a stack if you miss an attack. Especially with aim dressing, you lose your stacks for no good reason.

This happened around the doctor rework and people are still just realizing it

It wasn't shadow nerfed. It was pretty explicitly nerfed around a patch or two ago.
But fun fact; if you rubber band while hitting a survivor, you don't lose tokens even though the survivor loses a health state.
