Cross-Progression/BHVR Account: Does Changing Accounts Change Your Name?

I linked my PC/Steam account to BHVR when the option became available because I wanted to take advantage of Cross-Progression when it eventually came to Switch. Since then I have been unable to accept invites or friend requests from friends cross-platform (he's on Switch).

The one thing I noticed when checking on this was that my in-game friend name, specifically the 4 letters and numbers after the hashtag, was different from what my friend who had previously friend-listed me had on his console. If you searched my in-game name, which I use across all platforms, you would see 4 results there instead of 3 (PC, PS4, Switch), so PC was showing up twice with different hashtags. That should have just been a matter of re-inviting with the new hashtag code, but that did not work.

When he tried to invite me he could search my name and find it, as mentioned above, but could not send a friend invite. The option was there, but it would not select no matter what. I tried to invite him and he couldn't accept my incoming request either.

Just to rule out the name change wasn't from something else before posting this, I changed my Steam Name, checked in-game, then changed it back and checked in-game. In all cases my hashtag remained what it is currently. This leads me to believe that the BHVR link is what caused the name change and, by extension, the Friend/Invite issue I'm having.

I've seen some posts with similar issues, but not quite sure they were the exact situation I'm describing here, so adding my own experience to the pile.

Yes they are aware of this issue. I've sent them support tickets as well. This issue has been present since the launch of cross progression in October and there's still no fix unfortunately. They advise against unlinking your PC/Steam account or you will lose all your rift progress and bloodpoints earned (an other things like auric cells) on that account. So their only advice for me was to keep my account linked for now, but it means I can't play with my Switch friends either like in your case.

BHVR emailed me this morning and said they fixed the cross play issue! Just restart your game and you should be able to re-add your console friends on PC and vice versa.
