Playing without Ruin and Undying is not Fun
Do you know what is fun? Using a build that is based around a gimmick, like say catching people healing with M&A, Nurse's Calling, and Thantaphobia.
Do you know what is not fun? Having to sit around a generator that is regressing because if you leave for a second the survivors will complete it.
Every time I play without those two perks, I always feel like the survivors are just one step away from victory.
To clarify, I am not expecting to win every match or some bs like that. I just want to able to play the killer without feeling like I have already lost the game because I spent a little too long in the chase.
I know that it is not that fun to go up against, but the ability to not have to worry about kicking that gen and how much progress that gen has is way too good to pass up.
Even when I win without Ruin and Undying, it does not justify not using it. I still feel under way too much pressure every time I spend a little too long doing anything.
It sucks, but until I don't need to have a panic attack every time I play killer, I will keep using this Combo. Base Gen defense options are way too weak.
Note: I know that Pop and Corrupt exist, but the game refuses to give me both perks on a killer so that is cool.

You're over exaggerating and psyching yourself out.

Many killers need perks to deal with Gens or the game is over too fast, so I won't say picking the combo that works for a specific player is wrong,
But Ruin/Undying can be countered by smart survivors staying on Gen, or unlocky totem placement. I've played games where we destroyed a killer with this combo, but there are games, where the totems are hidden well and killer is able to put jsut enough pressure to get great value out of those two perks) - I find this combo to be a coin toss
I prefer / love the new oppression perk from Twins, Then something like Pop goes the weasel, and or Tinker/corrupt Intervention I found more reliable and cannot be countered as easily.
sidenote - I wish this game had an alternate game mode where the game would last X amount of minutes and it was all about being chased/hiding from the killer. something that might new need specific maps, but a mode where its all about just the chase and hiding. (blood points would be given out at based on how people did and need a slight rework in distribution since there would be no boring gens) This way everyone can take perks all about the chase. I suggest this as I'd rather just chase a group of people for a while then worry about gens, but this game forces killers to waste so many slots on gen perks and skip the fun chase perks unless they don't mind 5 minute games.

I find trying to learn Blight without any gen regression rather unfun. I’m not even going in to win or a 4k but finding a survivor/committing to one chase for 15-20 seconds and 1-2 gens pop as some have toolboxes with bnp and or prove thyself.
i don’t find a reason to kick a gen anymore as it wastes too much time and it feels way too early to start slugging just minutes in. Especially since I’m just using this match to learn Blights mechanics better. I play on Switch so it’s a very slow process.
ive had games last five minutes occasionally and then I find out all but one survivor was 10+ranks above me .
wish they had a character specific training mode and looked into gen regression again.
i know it’s very difficult trying to balance between solo q and a swf with comms. Idk what they could do

It's fine dude.
I don't find the game fun to play as Survivor if I'm not using Iron Will. So I always use Iron Will in almost every build.

Agreed, the gens still go too fast. Turn your back for a second, POP. Get in a short chase, POP. Down the survivor, POP. It's infuriating.
The MMR is all kinds of jacked up; too many survivors, not enough killers. Gee, I wonder why....

Okay, do as you suit, nobody is stopping you from playing as you like as long as you are not cheating.

I used to be like you. Back in the day I thought I HAD to run Hex: Ruin every game on every Killer if I wanted even a chance to win. Eventually I grew the balls to stop using the meta perks for a few games, and lo and behold I still did just fine. This dependence you feel is purely psychological and these perks are not actually required to win.

This. Everyone has their thing. For me it is Spine Chill.

You can run whichever perks you want.
Many (especially) not so experienced killers really struggle with gens popping left and right when they aren't yet skilled enough to down survivors quickly. The skills come by playing, but practicing doesn't need to be like banging your head against a wall. Just run strong perks if that's what you need.
Im a new killer and when I started, I simply couldn't do anything. Meaning that I wasn't even used to playing 1st person, get lost in chases and missed my hits all the time. Yeah, definitely not fun for me, and gens were finished in a no time. It got more comfortable after starting to run Ruin.

One survivor running a perk which makes them emit less noise is not really comparable to a perk that affects the generator regression speed.

Meh...
I do perfectly fine 95% of the time with Clown or Doc in reds by running Coulrophobia, Sloppy, Overwhelming Presence (or Forced Penance), and Unnerving Presence.

most killers i dont run regression, bc i find it boring. still manage to be red rank... crazy.

Good for you

Just wondering, why would you take Overwhelming Presence over Franklin's Demise as an anti-item perk?

I like Hex: Ruin for early game so if it takes me a second to find a survivor/group of survivors I can undo the damage on that generator at the start. That helps a lot. It always feels like overkill late game though. As long as ruin survives long enough for me to get that first chase I'm usually fine.
The thing is Undying/Ruin is an opportunity cost. You're just using your base killer with generator regression where there's a lot of cheeky perks that can really turn the tide and they're hard to expect because of the sheer variety. I like when survivors jump into a locker to avoid a chainsaw only to get the iron maiden debuff...or you have that cheeky survivor locker hopping in the basement for a save.
It's not about what you have. It's what you could have. You know?

Sadly until the devs look at the base game design, ruin and undying is here to stay for awhile.
The issue we are having is survivors are getting faster especially with new perks to make healing so much quicker which means they get back onto gens quicker. Its getting to the point where killers who want to 12 hook and alot of chases cant keep up our only saving grace is ruin and undying as it gives us time to get 12 hooks and have lots of chases. I would argue that ruin and undying has made the game more fun for those types of killers myself included.
But sadly i think the devs will cave and nerf undying and we get back to the point of slugging and getting less hooks cause we cant keep up with the pace of survivors.
So i will leave with a question to ask yourself do you want games that have a lot of chases lots of mindgames or games where your going to be lying on the floor alot of the times?
(Please note im talking about what would happen in red ranks as im a red rank player other ranks i would have no idea what will happen)

I'll be honest, I've never been really interested in using either Ruin or Undying. Don't really like Perks that can disappear on me way too quickly if I'm a bit unlucky. Yes, Ruin + Undying is probably the strongest regression you can get, but depending on what killer you play, Pop, Surge, Sloppy, Corrupt, or even Thana can be perfectly decent replacements.

If you’re good as killer, you really don’t need regression perks to 4K. Most killers run it since it puts ease on them. It’s overkill af when it’s Blight with Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer ...

If your a good killer then you do need to run regression perks not just to potentially get a 4k but to actually have some time to get 12 hooks. Also to throw a counter to the expected counter "i ran without regression and still get 4k"
How often was it due to survivors mistakes that you took advantage on?
How consistent is you getting 4k with that build?
Did you slug majority of the time during the game?
Also most imporantly how many hooks did you get with that build?
as the number of hooks means more than the kills as there have been plenty of times i drew (black pip) when i had 3 or even 4k just cause i didnt have alot of hooks.
it is sadly a matter of fact that even if you are a good killer you need regression perks as the game can go way to fast for killer to keep up even with blight.

Never ran this combo, never will. It's easy crutch mode and flatout boring. Did you know Undying works well with other hexes too? Retribution is a good example, you get a ton of info out of it and can pressure the right areas. I generally don't run hexes anyway, rng for a perk slot is too much of a gamble and I'd rather have perks that can indefinitely last the whole trial.

Just as an all purpose item mitigator, particularly medkits as the purpose of the build is for slugging, and then making it difficult for teammates to help them up immediately. Plus it’s hilarious finding where an injured survivor went and catching them before they could heal, both because of how slow it’s taking and their med kit running out.
Plus it just feels really good to still win when using an all TR perk build like this.
Yeah, Franklins has a more immediate disabling effect, but the item can be picked back up. I’d just rather things like their flashlights and medkits running out quicker.

Playing with it is boring.
It's like....2 perk slots and they do half your job for you. Not calling them OP or anything but like; they are very strong and definitely not something I would use when learning.

Survivors aren't going to suddenly stop using DS Unbreakable DH just because you stop using ruin/undying. With the amount of work killers are expected to do on top of that, just use it unless you want to play anxiety simulator and slug every game.

When I play killer it's because the queues are instant, and the great thing about instant queues is that the outcome of each individual match feels like it means jack. So far I've mostly refused to run gen defense perks. I want to have fun, I want to run meme-y or gimmicky builds. I'm not wasting my perk slots on slowing down the game. If the match goes fast, whatever, I open the gate, the survivors got a relaxing gen repair sim and an easy 4e (unless I'm specifically trying to pop Bloodwarden, in which case escaping might not be a guarantee), and I get to immediately move on to the next match.
I don't want to say I go in with the intention of losing: I go in with the intention of having fun my way. Winning just doesn't factor into that. DbD has been a game where I can either do what the game wants me to do, which quickly causes burnout, or I can play how I want and enjoy myself.
There have been a few things in this game that I've found very freeing. 1. Only playing a role with instant queues. 2. Turning off messages/friend requests. 3. Tossing aside the game's objectives for my own goals.
That's been my own experience, and it's certainly not going to work for everyone. But if I only focus on getting sacrifices as killer, it can easily become stressful. And if I put too much stock in escaping as solo survivor, it can be absolutely miserable. Trying to use Power Struggle (I could crawl looking for the hatch, or I could crawl to that pallet...hmmm... decisions decisions) was some of the most fun I've had playing survivor in a good while. Yeah, I died, but goddammit I did it with style.

i hate ruin dying so i use corrupt thrilling and pop and it works quite well

Playing with random Solo queue survivors who don’t cleanse them is debatably more unfun😔
