I Must Know...
I want to know what people thought dbd would be like or what you expected of certain gameplay that you knew about (if you knew anything) prior to playing dbd. I'll start cuz why not.
I thought that killers were to be unstoppable forces and would be 4k'ing every single game. I thought the weakest killers would also 4k every game just take longer. I thought that you actually had to have skill in order to escape.
As I've learned... that is not the case at all.

Well before release I thought this game would be more of a playable horror slasher about survivor trying to hide and not get caught. This was true for the first few months until survivor learned how to play the game the way it is played today. Less hide-and-seek and more catch-me-if-you-can. Crouching and hiding is even frowned upon today, when used as a main Playstile.

Fr, DBD is more of a cat & mouse game rather than an actual horror game. (Though its still classified as one)

I don't care what it is, the question was, "how I thought it would be when I first saw it".
And please don't start the argument if it is competitive or casual. It is no game with official competitions (atleast it shouldn't be thanks to so.mich potential rng, thus they often have a bundle of rules and restrictions) but from the pvp setup it is a competitive game per definition.
Edit: sry for the tone but I just had a rather heated argument somewhere else.

Yeah I know because I bought this game thinking it was a "survival horror" until I realized it was more of a cat/mouse game. (like secret neighbor)
PS: I wasn't planning on bringing the competitive/casual argument, Idk where you got that from my friend.

Na just many people add the genre with the games Playstile together, so i just was being preemptive.

"I thought that killers were to be unstoppable forces and would be 4k'ing every single game. I thought the weakest killers would also 4k every game just take longer."
Sounds like a pretty bad concept for a Multiplayer Onlinegame. This would be a concept if the 4 Survivors would not be actual humans playing, but 4 Bots.

I... guess I thought there would be more scariness, because I'm a big chicken. Now, the only killers that scare me are stealth killers and the killer I main.
Also thought it would be more hide-and-seek, but once I learned what boldness points were, I lost that idea real quick.
I thought it would be a total bloodbath, as far as survivor deaths, and then I realized the higher you rank, the harder it is for killers to keep up with survivors, until the mid to low-tier killers kinda disappear.
I thought playing killer would be more relaxing than playing survivor, then I actually played killer and spent whole matches just like "what the heck."

Well there are 4 man coop games with a pretty nasty "ai" controlling the opposition so they have to work and wipe several times to win. The thing is in those games you know you have to fight the program instead of another human being so there is less "envy?" Maybe. (I don't know the the correct term right now)
I don't know the game but a german group called rocket beans played it and (while they are no pro gamers) never managed to beat a level since the game was hard.

I thought the game would be as advertised: Hide and seek with serial killers, where survivors had to be smart, careful and work together. I definitely thought that killers would be getting at least 2-3 kills a trial. Turns out that's not the game at all, but I still like it.

I thought there'd be a lot more teamwork in the game, speaking of. I was used to games where you definitely had to work together to do anything successfully. You put me on a team with three other people, silly me, I assume we're actually gonna help each other.

I mean, hard games are fine. But in a Multiplayer-game, both sides should have the same chances to win. You cant expect DBD to be a slaughter-simulator.
And when it comes to AI vs humans... IMO AIs are most of the time the harder opponents, when programmed in a way to be a challenge. E.g. in Dark Souls 3 you can either fight an NPC in one of the DLCs or an actual player. IMO one of the worst Boss fights in the entire franchise, because the NPC can be a pain in the butt while the player is laughable easy to beat. (At least this was the way in my playthroughs, of course you can get a really good player as well)
Against AI, the only thing that can be changed is the own skill. Against other players, there are way more factors. And this is why I like multiplayer games, I can play 10 rounds with the same Killer and be the constant while the game still differ, because there are different Survivors.

Honestly? I thought it would have a fight back feature be very similar to Friday the 13th, even though DBD came first I originally thought you'd be able to fight back using weapons.

I thought it would be a hide and seek kind of game not a run around in circles like a headless chicken dropping things kind of game.

Found it on PS4
When I watched the cinematic clip with Jake, Claudie, Dwight and Trapper, I thought it was going to be like Until Dawn.
