Help My Friend See

Hello! I started playing Dead by Daylight with a friend, he plays on the Switch, and quickly realized how much of a disadvantage he was because he’s colorblind. These are the following he's not able to see:

As Survivor he isn't able to see the red stain on the killer, see the aura of a survivor in the dying state, the location of a hooked survivor, can't see hex totems, the game itself he says it's a bit too dark

As Killer he isn't able to see the blood left behind by an injured survivor, scratch marks left behind by a survivor - he didn't even know what scratch marks were when I asked him

He's also not able to tell the difference between rare and ultra rare items on the bloodweb

He's tried changing the "modes" on his TV screen, messing with the contrast, color and brightness with his TV and nothing seems to help.

I checked the settings and there isn’t a colorblind option on PC or the Nintendo Switch. Can we help my friend see the game so he’s able to enjoy the game better at its fullest experience available?

Thank you for your time 😊

He could mess with the contrast/color on his monitor maybe? I don't think there's a colorblind option in DbD, they need one for sure

He plays on the TV with his switch and he’s tried changing the “mode” on the TV, sorry if that doesn’t make sense, but it didn’t really do much for him. We’ll see if messing with the contrast/color will help. Thank you for the suggestion and replying 😊

I hope DBD does a colourblind option(s) for colourblind people because i can just imagine how ######### the game is for them and its something devs on games don't really think about.

I think this suggestion should be done fairly quickly cause a lot of people have this problem.

We played some more today and here’s an update on his gameplay:

-Messing with the contrast/color/brightness of the TV doesn’t help at all.

-The game itself is hard to see because of how dark it is for him due to his color blindness.

-Honestly feel he’s at a major disadvantage here because as I said above he isn’t able to the the red stain on killers, the blood on the floor, he can’t even see scratch marks... purple and pink items look the same to him on the blood web, is hard for him to tell when there’s a lit or dull totem in front of him.

With all of this being said, he still enjoys playing the game very much, I just wish to be able to help him experience the game at its fullest potential.

Like I said before, I hope they do a colourblind version for the game (well option) cause I can imagine messing with contrast and that does not help and the game must be incredibly stressful, frustrating and painful for him. A lot of other people have this issue.

In all fairness, I am not colourblind or anything but on some of the newer maps like autohaven I have issues with my eyes getting strained a lot and due to them being so dark even with my glasses on I get headaches and my friend told me he had to lower his settings to low for it to be brighter but like I should not have to, I still want my graphics to be decent, so that is another point I wanted to add.

I myself am protanomaly (red weak) colourblind, it isnt as extreme as what I think your friend has (assuming protanopia, which is red blind).

Most computers have colourblind filters! It makes the game less saturated (If that's an issue idk I like it), and it makes the reds visible, as it changes the shades of them, to lighter colours similar to what my friend says is pinks and purples!

If he doesn't have this there are often online resources that people can install for stuff like this! :))

    Happy surviving!

Edit: If on Windows 10 just search "colour filters"

There's a color blind twitch streamer I watch who didn't know scratch marks existed for months if not longer because she couldn't see them. I was going to suggest looking into Windows 10 Colorblind filters because that's what she uses... but if you're friend is on Switch... well honestly I don't know what options the Switch has for that. I wish you all the luck in the world trying to figure it out.

And yes, Dead By Daylight needs colorblind options.
