Wraith rework

The Wraith was my first main, and is easily one of if not my favorite killer. True invisibility was definitely a step in the right direction, but it wasn't my biggest problem.

Problems:

Honestly, while Wraith is fun for both killer and survivor, his playstyle and even concept is pretty outdated. Killer's need an ability to help them in chase to remain viable, so Wraith's unique 1v4 hit and run playstyle I think should stay, but he needs something more. Having the worst 1v1 in the game means that Wraith needs either more strengths, or a higher emphasis on them. Also, my biggest frustration with Wraith is that any play and strength you have (besides undetectable) is always the result of a perk or add-on you bring, and your base kit does nothing of substance to everyone besides inexperienced survivors. I doubt Behavior will use some of these bigger changes so Wraith isn't dominant in the low ranks, but I think it will do a lot for killer variety.

Main changes:

-Purple Windstorm is base kit

Wraith's speed is the main factor in why his juggling is so good and why he is adept for defending gens. But what he has a base is laughable. 126% isn't outstanding and won't do much. The 140% or so from purple windstorm sements Wraith's map control, and further encourages perks like Play With your Food, but I reworked the existing windstorm add-ons.

-Bone Clapper is base kit

I always found it strange that the game calls the Wraith a stealth killer when his power gives a huge notification to survivors. You still can hide your presence, but just the fact survivors know you're there defeats the purpose, so it's usually a better idea to just rushdown or bodyblock. This change adds a distinction between good and bad Wraiths.

-New ability: All seeing Spirit

"If the Wraith lands a surprise attack (an attack out of his cloak) it applies the 'fearful' status effect. While active, 'fearful' allows The Wraith to see the aura of the survivor when at least 32 meters away, and gives them -10% to repair. The only ways to become unifflicted from fearful is either being hooked, or being healed to healthy."

Not to be confused with the add-ons, this is a new part of his killer power. I'm pretty sure you can guess that I bassed this off the old Freddy. While many stealthy survivors found this annoying, the information that he had from putting survivors asleep was a huge boon exclusive to him, so with the Wraith having a similar concept, I would like the idea. This would also give him more adequate game stall, forcing the survivors to heal.

Add-on changes:

Iridescent all seeing:

- The Wraith's true invisibility always applies

- The Wraith's uncloaking is not visible to surviors

- Uncloaking takes 2 seconds longer

Windstorm family:

- The speed that Wraith gains after uncloak is 10 (yellow)/20% (green)/30% (purple) faster

Purple All-Seeing:

- Feaful survivors' aura can be seen from at least 16 meters

(New) Blind Warrior family:

- Hitting surviors with a surprise attack causes the Hemmorage (Brown)/Mangled (Yellow)/Deep Wound (green)/Broken for 40 seconds (purple) status effect.

(New yellow add-on replacing Bone Clapper) Azarov's car keys:

- Fearful surviors penalty is increased by an extra -10%

What do you agree or disagree with this idea?

Question: You reference something called the "Mangled Bell", yet as a former Wraith main, I can confirn this is not a thing.

    Correction?

Yeah, Bone Clapper. I just call it that, and call Coxcomed Clapper "Silent Bell".

I like your ideas and they seem decent.

If the devs were looking for the easiest and quickest fix though all they honestly need to do is bake Bone Clapper and Windstorm into his base while of course toning down the addons accordingly. Just that would make him a lot more solid. I'd like if his invis was actually full invis all the time but I'm trying not to get greedy here.

A windstorm addon and bone clapper as basekit would be a good change.

But im not sure about this last change. It teaches new players to play hit and run. But the aura reading reduces his skill cap. You dont need to guess where survivors are anymore.

And it would be a nightmare for newer survivors, so the devs will never consider it.

I agree on the new players and the devs not doing it, but honestly for high or mid ranks I don't think it's bad. It makes Wraith's map control more of a feature. By the midgame you probably a lot more aware of the survivor's whereabouts especially if they play aggressively, in which Wraith also struggles with that gen jockey type playstyle. It encourages the hit & run, and gives surviors more of a reason to get rid of it. But you have a good point.

Honestly for a long, long time the only thing I think the Wraith has needed to be perfect is to just have yellow Windstorm basekit (then tone down the Windstorm add-ons).

    That's it.

I've always loved his simplicity and hit-and-run playstyle, and I think he's near perfect.

All Wraith needs is extra movement speed. That's literally it, he's way too slow without it and it would instantly take Wraith from garbage to good, because the one thing holding him back is his movement speed. It's so ######### irritating that BHVR still haven't taken the hint.

I think the "fearful" effect should be changed. It does make you find survivors faster which is good, but any good survivors would hear your bell and immediately run to a safe spot. It also doesn't help him in a chase.

I also don't think that he should have the bone clapper as base kit. It should be increased to purple rarity and it would probably be overwhelming for newer survivors.

The purple windstorm base kit seems pretty nice and I have said before that it should be a thing. Not too strong, but enough for him to juggle survivors.

The buff he got in the latest PTB was a great start (of course it was sort of bugged on the PTB), but he still needs chase potential.

If we give him something like 5% increased movement speed at all times, survivors could still loop him a little bit and throw pallets down early. This would not solve his problem of not having chase potential and kinda just seems like a band-aid fix, if even.

Like I said in my own Wraith post, I think that the Wraith should put some passive effect on survivors by shaking his bell side to side to sort of curse them with it instead of cloaking. This could be available when he is not cloaked. It has to help him in a chase, and I don't think that it should reduce survivors' movement speed because that would be too simple. I have said it before, but this is pretty challenging to just make up a new effect that would help the Wraith in a chase.

aura at a distance to easily relocate, especially if it had a long lasting efect, on top of repair debuff from an 'ambush' hit would be annoying as hell to deal with for them probably and is a bit too much unless it was maybe an addon and did away with the repair debuff bit. the purple addon to see auras within what was it 12 meters or so? while cloaked, I liked that addon and it should stay as it is especially since I had a bunch farmed from 2016 it looked like when I came this year (on steam acc) and only used a few when I got back since I was saving them for a rainy day. I actually forgot about those until right now, maybe during the next bp event I'll use a few more, thing is I could have used those on my psn acc since I got my steam caught up on everything throughout last year when I started playing again and it's my psn needing perks now. But I won't grind killers on my psn lol. no way in hell I'm playing killers without perks and addons lmfao. and any bp from wglf went into survivors, and will continue to each bp event on that account

Yellow Windstorm basekit and he should be pretty fine. Right now Wraith is perhaps the worst killer in the game, or if it's Trapper I think it's close.

I'm not talking about 5% movement speed, I'm talking windstorm levels of movement speed while cloaked. He should be 140% while cloaked by default, then BHVR can rework the windstorm add-ons into something more interesting.

Wraith doesn't need another ability, windstorm speed literally makes him a good killer. He's not supposed to have good chase potential, none of the stealth killers are. His main strengths are map mobility and a playstyle that spreads pressure and catches survivors in the open, and he can do this really well with windstorm. If you're looking to play Wraith to chase every survivor from healthy to down then you're gonna lose because that's not how you play Wraith.

The whole reason Wraith is so weak in the first place is because he has no chase potential. Just because he's a stealth killer doesn't mean he shouldn't have some sort of power in a chase. Even with purple windstorm and a bone clapper, he is a mediocre killer.

The better the survivors, the more apparent it is that Wraith is a bad killer. No good to average survivor would ever let you catch them out in the open.

Windstorm alone does not make him a good killer, he will still be decent at best depending on the map.

Sorry but that's just not true, Wraith is good with windstorm. And survivors will get caught in the open...if you can move fast enough to get to them which is why windstorm is so necessary to making him actually playable. You can't just make a beeline to survivors and not try to hide your approach. You have to think about where survivors can run to, and if you can, body-block them or get them to run to a different area. And in short loops you can use his enhanced lunge to easily get around those loops and hit survivors. You're definitely not playing him right if you think Wraith should be played like every other chase killer.

You should give Wraith another try with a build that works with his playstyle. BBQ, Sloppy/MYC, Ruin/Pop and enduring is what I usually run.

I still disagree. I want him to have chase potential so he isn't looped like a normal killer. I do actually play him correctly (the hit and run playstyle) and I can show you a video of me playing him if you would like. It is also hard to go up to survivors in the open when the area is super open since the survivors will see you coming. Of course, this should be much easier to do with his upcoming buff. Now you won't have to hide your approach as much.

My Wraith build consists of CI, brutal strength, sloppy butcher, and surveillance all level 3 (that is all I have on him atm, I really want MYC). As I said, I play him with the sort of hit and run playstyle which of course means to sneak up to get the initial hit on survivors and to not commit to longer chases. I then use the speed from my windstorm to go to another part where I know or predict a survivor will be. Surveillance helps me with this since I can see if survivors get on a generator I recently kicked. The bone clapper helps me get the initial hit on survivors because they will always be unsure of where i am uncloaking (literally his second-best addon besides the coxcombed clapper).

Going up against a good survivor team (not even a SWF) will make you realize the limits of windstorm on Wraith. It helps a lot, but then again not by a whole lot against good survivors. They don't even have to be that good either.
