Regress exit gate progress to prevent 99% meta
EGC deaths almost never happens because survivors 99% the gate
Make exit gate progress regress to put an end to this lame meta.
Even if the regression speed was 50% or even 75% of the activation speed, it would be better than nothing.

Open the gate yourself

I fantasized about it but By then the survivors won, that should be in their control. The only benefit of EGC really is getting the chance to use bloodwarden and maybe slug and camp for the next 3 minutes so what’s the issue you have with 99ing? I’ve never heard it been described as a meta, it’s just a method. An effective and necessary one from the survivors side. From the killers side well... the gates are powered. And although that’s when stuff tends to go downs it doesn’t mean the killer needs that extra advantage of 100% setting off EGC. Otherwise somebody will ALWAYS be getting chased while the other opens the door, then they’ll most likely go down as EGC starts and the whole camping/slugging the last 3 survivors starts again. We did our 5 gens, regressing exit gates isn’t deserved. As much as I would’ve loved it while I got my ass kicked as trapper rn, somebody woulda been screwed over for no reason.

This is a good idea, could be a new killer perk. Would become likely a T1 / T2. This with a zone defender like Hag or Trapper could be brutal. Remember me, blood warden. Whole game build around end game torture ha. Gg

It is definitely meta because it is used every single time it comes down to the endgame.
Sure the survivors earned their escape, but if somebody gets hooked & they go for the save, there shouldn't just be a door waiting for them. It should be a choice between either saving that person & taking a risk or opening the door, no in-between.
Hell even if the doors do get changed to regress, there will always be somebody near them to prevent that anyway, so what's the problem with it?

there’s been PLENTY of times I, or others go down for the first time when the gates are powered. We ran him the first gen, then again for the last 2 but your idea would totally put me in an undeserved position. Unless I have the fantastic 4 I’m probably getting face-camped, which I play solo, unfortunately. But seriously it maybe could be a good perk, but not part of vanilla DBD

Not my idea as I am not OP.
Although I somewhat agree with you, I do want to say that with or without this change, killers tend to facecamp during endgame to secure a kill anyways so adding this wouldn't change much.
Also, comparing one of your matches to a change isn't a very good argument due to the fact that not every match is going to have the same outcome.
Regarding my last 2 points, I do agree about it being a perk instead. It could be seen as OP by some & a perk is a good way to fix that.

It's not just the facecamping, it's bloodwarden.
People often 99 the gates if someone is down to prevent BW from progging.
One way to solve this would be to NOT have gates regress if BW is in play, thus also telling survs that it isn't and they can just get out. (Related note: move the threshold of the gate right behind the gate too to prevent the corridor shenanigans.)

That is a great idea though I will say most survivors tend to 99 because of endgame collapse, not Bloodwarden.

I’m not comparing a match. I said plenty of times, as well as other experience this often. It would be a force of motion and I don’t like rushing the end. It would take away the option of playing how we want in the end. Ik 99ing the gates takes away how you want the end to play but that’s where the game clashes. The way it is, you had your chance in the beginning now it’s survivors turn to rein. If it’s a must have, it needs to be in the form of a perk

You have a point (sentence before your last). I guess we both agree on a perk then since most people wouldn't use it anyways.
Thanks for the little debate, it's always fun.

Another interesting idea would be to add a fourth light and make it take 5 seconds per light and you have regression back to each 5 second light. I don't personally have an issue with people 99ing gates but more so with hatch and door spawns being on opposite sides of the map. It usually takes 20 seconds just to get to the door from the other side of the map at a minimum. I also have issues getting the prompt to open a gate sometimes which I think you should be able to do at all times.

Good point but it shouldn't have to be a perk. Gens regress so why not the gate?

Might be something that varies between regions and ranks. I see it mostly being done to avoid BW these days. Unless someone gets hooked very far from the gate

EGC was NOT added to give killers extra kills. IDK why that's such a common misconception. Once the gates are powered, you are not entitled to getting more kills if you can't secure them yourself.
It might be cool as a perk, but hopefully unlikely to be added as a base game mechanic change for multiple reasons.

because you need ruin for automatic gen regression, it would only be fair you need a perk for automatic gate regression as well. Unless you guys are talking about physical going up the gate as killer and doing an action to regress it’s progress. In that case, I fail to see how it would be all that significant.

That would make blood warden obvious and even more of a waste of a perk slot outside of purely troll loadouts

This. If it only regressed with Blood Warden then everyone would just wait for the hook before opening the gates, or just leave before the hook could happen. Blood Warden relies entirely on the element of surprise.
I think the gates regressing beyond at 50/75 is a good idea.
At the exit gates there's two scenarios really
- most people are alive and the survivors are winning, in which case 99ing the exit gate simply makes it easier for them to win by a large margin, they can even go back and do saves, with the knowledge the gate is already opened.
- 1 or 2 people are remaining and the Killer has the upper hand, in this case 99ing the gate is unlikely to be possible anyway, due to the pressure of the killer. Someone is going to have to open the gate and likely in a single action anyway, as the Killer can easily pressure 1 or even 2 people.
So I think currently, 99ing the gates is only really helpful when the survivors are winning, and it makes them win even more. So I think regression is a good idea.

To clarify, I don't mean it should regress at 50/75 speed.
I mean any progress should regress beyond 50 or 75%.
So the survivors can still pre-open the gate, but only up to 50%. If they do it to 70% or 99% etc, it will start to regress back down to 50%. So they can 50 the gate if they want, but its not quite as easy as 99ing the gate, allowing them to go for saves, open the gate, and even have time for a cheeky teabag.

I came up with a Killer based around manipulation of map features, including the gate:

The devs actually tested exit gate regression and found it hurt solo survivors a lot more than SWF:

I'd personally rather the exit gate regress so it can't be left a 99 and opened in a click. I do think it's over powered and only helps mainly SWF lobbies get their team mates off hook.

I feel like this is a death sentence for any survivor left as the last one. The Killer flips the hatch and if you don't 100% it in one go, you lose. That's a huge "if" with the Killer having a 50/50 shot of finding which gate you went to.

only if people 99 the gate
0 -
well I do it, it's habit now. I see a lot of others tend to do it too. usually when they are on gens enought o power it and don't dance around he kilelr and hook, they tend to get the gate going. I noticed a few stopping at 2 lights though even without the killer around which kind of ticked me off.

Easily solved.... stop regression once it hits 50% or something.

The devs could even make an offering that allows the group to have the gates stay at what % you left it at.
So some games you can have the gate left at 99 and some games you have to open it.
Balance it out a bit.
