Love this game but compelled to quit (for a reason you wouldnt have guessed)

I can't believe how long this issue has gone unchecked and how little public knowledge there is of this massive issue.

Now don't get me wrong, some things in this game are frustrating, but this is particular issue is unforgivably disappointing. Before I get to that, let me explain where I'm coming from.

I play PC queues and have over 1000 hours about half and half. I've been in red ranks from around 150 hours into my journey.

I am the kind of gamer to study the meta, strategies and take the mentality of getting better. I've watched all the top big name streamers, gone through all their guide videos and studied tournament gameplay. I've applied this approach to several other big online multiplayer games and eventually make it to the near the top of the ladder. I probably take it too seriously, but I try to have fun too.

One day I learned a secret in the DBD community that jaded my perspective. I took about a month to solidly investigate the matter before writing this post. At first it will subtle to me, then I realized how widespread the issue is. The issue is absolutely plaguing this game and people have no idea. It is a big reason for hate between both sides, confusion, frustration and imbalance issues.

HERE IT IS

DBD has immeasurably poor anti-cheat with very cheap widely available hacks that have ruined the game at a high level of play. 99% of big name streamers and every single tournament player is cheating. All of them use wall hack. However in normal PC lobbies (cant speak for console), a very high amount of PC players in red ranks are hacking. I'd estimate 10-20% are subtly abusing wallhack, aimbot on killer, perk resets, extra item resources and things like auto dead hard that automatically dodge the next attack that would be anticipated to hit. Not everyone is obvious and it takes playing against them multiple times to see a pattern of BS they are pulling. Many are good at "hiding" the fact they are cheating.

It is so widespread, I am forced to either get hacks myself or quit. I have chosen the latter. I can't believe how little this is talked about as it is literally saturating the higher level player base to the point where every single player that would ever be able to keep in a tournament is forced to hack or they stand no chance against the other hackers. Most of these hackers are good legitimately, but then they become god-like with hacks. This means that no matter how good you are legit, you cannot compete against them unless they let you by only using them when needed.

Most of these players and especially the streamers and prominent names are very good at "playing dumb" and not using all the wall hack information and toggling the other hacks. That is why it requires looking through hundreds of hours of their footage to pull all the confirmed BS situations where they are blatantly cheating. (An updated anti-cheat which the Devs could nag the hired company for would detect it immediately)

Easyanticheat has a good reputation, but only for specific games. They have a reputation for being less secure in other games and one happens to be DBD. They need to overhaul their system and I'd expect millions of accounts to be banned instantly like what has been happening in other popular games this past year.

I love this game, but it is not fun to play in lobbies full of hackers (sometimes after long queues) and to have to deal with balance issues from skewed statistics and perspectives from players who get owned by both sides because they are experiencing what it is like to play legit vs hacker(s). It's just not fair to legit players. It's hurting your fun and in some cases they are profiting off the naivety of the masses.

Killer hackers are annoying as hell. You can't escape them unless your team plays extremely well. There is no winning a 1v1 unless the map is set up in a way where you can loop for a really long time. Many solo survivors are actually using wall hacks (which appears and feels like a SWF). The worst SWF groups are not the ones with thousands of hours. They aren't the ones with flashlights or second chance perks. They are are by far ones with 2-4 hackers all laughing at how hard they can own you. Hacks are too powerful to compete against. It makes it easy to toy with the killer.

Watch some tournament and high level streamers very closely for more than a few games and you will start seeing blatantly suspect BS left and right. It's hilarious to look back at my mentality of deeply studying these high reputation streamers who were actually just good/knowledge players with interesting personalities being boosted by hacks. It explains the random ######### they do that works out, the times they throw a prediction skillshots, know exactly where totems/exit gates/hatch is, or the funniest is when people count down seconds for someone to run into a trap across the map. Just because they are charismatic and have a good reputation and play well legit does not mean they are not also hacking. Don't be so naïve. Its not any different from many other games (mostly fps games).

This issue has been on the downlow too long now. Do the research yourself if you don't believe me. Next time you get owned unexplainably by the other side, take time to consider whether what you witnessed was high level play, luck or just BS. If the hacks were not so easy (almost enabled by the lack of an updated anti-cheat) it would not be dominating this game. It is subtle. Once you get a good eye for it from seeing enough footage and find ways of tricking your opponent into doing something that reveals they are using walls you will see it EVERYWHERE.

Hope to come back one day when this issue is taken care of. Have fun getting *icked around by cheaters in the meantime.

The best way to find cheaters is with scratched mirror. They do the opposite of you through multiple walls .

Never came a cross a single hacker and I have been red ranks both killer and survivor bqq and chili and the crow perk is a thing so that might seem like “hacks”

There are players using cheats. but I don’t think to the extent you’re describing. Times where I do feel cheated, I normally find the opposing player was using a certain Perk or that they were genuinely skilled. It’s rare that I have encountered a Killer who is using “wall-hacks” or a Survivor “scripting” to avoid hits.

I'm seeing a lot of accusations and not a lot of evidence.

Not necessarily saying you're wrong but it's hard to believe you with zero evidence.

The running speeds are fixed in this game. It's not hard to believe someone with 1000 upon 1000 of hours can count down how far someone can get to a trap they laid

And a lot of players run on autopilot so predicting where they are is not that groundbreaking for someone with a lot of hours. Same for totem spots. Their are only so many fixed locations it's not that hard to learn them all.

Now i'm not a hacker so i don't precisely know how it works. But wouldn't a streamer be caught instantly if they wallhacked seeing how they are, you know, streaming their footage?

Some of your accusations expose your lack of relatively basic game knowledge and make your opinion not valid as a result.

Totems, hatch and exit gates have pre-defined spawn spots on all maps that are assigned with zero's an one's during map generation process, which takes into account min distance between similar objects adjusted by nearby landscape limitations, and survivors' spawn locations (for totems only). A large share of decent players knows all the spawns on all maps (I'm not one of the kind as I only remember totems and some hatches).

I hear you breathing behind a wall 10m away when I'm chasing your teammate and I know which character you are playing by how your breathing sounds, and I also know which locker you'll get into when your teammate goes down. I see the crows fly back to their spot on a rock 90 meters across the map and a self-caring claudette behind it gets a hatchet in her head. I know how 1k hrs survivors rotate around the map, where they look at, how they run different tiles and how they think. If I saw you 2 minutes ago, I usually have a general understanding of what you are doing right now. I can hear how the grass moves under you when you made one tiny step while crouching as an IW Ace 15m away from me to keep yourself behind a LoS breaker. On the othe hand, sometimes instead of refilling hatchets I accidently grab a wild Meg l who I thought was about to finish a gen half across the map.

Have I been accused of wh? Yes. Have I ever used any hacks? Take a guess.

Never in my dbd playtime I met an autoaim huntress/deathslinger, nor an auto DH survivor that I could not play around after this perk was first used and I knew about this given survivor having it. The share of hackers in dbd is extremely small relative to pretty much any game I've played.

In the 3 years of playing DbD, with over half of that time having Cross-Play, I have encountered 1 single hacker in my entire time of playing. Hacker's aren't running around rampant as you seem to beleive.

I have 2k hours and I have only seen cheaters maybe 10 times total. Idk where you get your numbers but I can tell from your first few paragraphs that you have no idea what game sense is and thus have no idea what you are talking about. The worst offense I have seen any streamer use is stretch rez, which is cheating to be sure but not hacking by any means. It sounds like you just happened to come across an extremely skilled player who just dunked on you and you are in denial about your own skill level. Look, it isn't just you but most people just aren't nearly as good as they think they are, and yes that includes you.

We are all quitting. Most of 1000h+ players are quitting. We have enough of it.

    October/November peak : 75k

    December/January peak : 53k

    Last week peak : 43k

    This week peak : 37k

The game has lost half its playerbase in 3 months...

The state of the game is terrible, it is dying. Just wait for the next update with all the terrible changes it will bring, it will go down to 25/30k peak.

Developpers have only made bad choices for this game, loosing time creating new killers/perks/skins instead of fixing the overall balance of the game (reworking all maps layout, reworking the perk system, reworking some existing killers, implementing a good matchmaking).

It has been years that all those problems are present, never been addressed, never fixed, i guess it's too much for us now.

We are tired of hearing the staff telling us : "we know it's a problem, we have heard you, we will fix it but no ETA".

About cheating, it is way more present than what some ppl think. It's not because you don't see a blatant cheater that he is not cheating.

A Wallhack or something that slightly boost your speed and you can't be sure if the guys is a cheater or not.

I have met many killers that are way too fast against who you can't even loop once... it's impossible. I have also seen Twitch streamers (killer) using speedhack, catching me way too fast in a loop. I then launched a private game, went to the exact same loop against the same killer and recorded the looping. There was no way he could have caught me so fast and still, he was a streamer with 50+ viewers, cheating in every game :).

To my mind there are around 1 to 3% of cheaters as in every other game, it's just that it's harder to spot in DbD.

I mean, sorry some people are good but I don't think their thousands of hours of practice is cheating, in actuality 80% of people in red ranks are swf boosted potatoes ngl and they are absolutely terrible, the others have lots of practice and there is a chance you know what you're gonna do before you do. Of course, there are hackers but there definitely aren't as many as you think!

This post actually made me laugh so thanks. The clickbait-esque title and the s h o c k i n g decleration there are hackers in this game as if absolutely no one knew, then subsequently presenting entirely fabricated statistics estimated off of facts you made up.

The main post a little bit overkill, but the threat is real.

Personally i met with only one hacker that was obvious. Reported with video evidence, hopefully action has been taken.

There was another russian i run into twice, he consistently went to player locations without reading perks against distortion.

I reported that too, but i had no real proof.

Probably, most hackers will "only" show off. Using it to their advantage without getting caught is not so easy. Acting like you are playing normally while cheating actually requires braincells that they obviously dont have.

If they would, they could realize that they can get the same result without cheating.

"High level of play" doesnt exist in this game in pubs, majority of red ranks are still the same old Bill/Jane/Nancy's urban evading and doing absolutely nothing for their team. Also wheres your evidence suggesting so many PC players are cheating? Even tourney players? Some people have so many hours that they can tell how much time it would take for a killer to go from A to B, so if they dont reach a point during a certain time they can predict where they are through walls. Or simply have eyes and look for the red stain.

I don't think saying that every large Twitch streamer is cheating is an appropriate thing to say in the slightest, first of all it's not true and second of all it crosses a legal line.

If you see someone cheating in game, please use the in-game report function and send your evidence to Support in the form of video: https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360000942011

Nothing good can come of this thread, and it technically breaks our forum rules, so I'm closing it here.
